"On the ride home I noticed more engine braking than before, maybe it's just me"

I am actually thinking I have lot less Engine breaking then before. Virtually non.

I gone through a full tank now and I got 38.64 MPG. Before I was getting consistent 31 MPG.

This includes some highway some back roads with lots of twisties and some spirited triple digit runs.

I am very happy with the new flash.

I got mine done last night and it's a GREAT update!

-Heat has gone down at least 10* (it's not as hot here as it was a week or two ago, so it's hard to tell)

-Cold starts are non-problematic

-Low RPM surging has been nearly eliminated. The only time I can still sense it is very faintly in 1st gear, around 2500 or so. 6th gear cruising, I can do 50mph with no issues or bucking

-Mileage has went up on average at least 7mpg. I say at least, because I was so excited about the bike getting "fixed" that I rode it harder than I ever have, and instead of the usual 35mpg with mixed highway and "spirited" driving, I was at 43mpg at the end of a 100 mile trip. I was looking at instantaneous mileage, and 50-55 it's 52mpg +, 55-65mph it's around 42-47mpg, and it's 38-40mpg around 75mph.

What a difference!!!

I had my re-flash done today at Uke's. They were busy (normal for a Saturday), but took care of me even though they were not aware of the update. The service tech found the information and did the update for me. He also showed me the printout indicating that the update had been completed.

I could feel the improvement before I even left the dealership driveway. I took a back road loop to pay attention to the changes. Much smoother in the 2000 - 3500 RPM range which will help a LOT in traffic, no bucking or surging between 3000 - 4000, and the bike was running 10-20 degrees cooler than it has all summer. Today is warm (mid-80's) so the fact that the Coolant temp never reached 200+ was amazing to me. Most of the time it ran in the 171-175 range. I haven't seen those temps since April or so!

The other major improvement was the average fuel usage. I have been getting 31-32 MPG all summer. Today, I averaged 40 MPG after the flash update. Fantastic!

I hope the press can get some of the '09 bikes to evaluate so the updated fueling for the 1125r gets the review it deserves. Buell has really come through with flying colors on this update!!!

I was down at Latus HD/B in Oregon today on an unrelated matter. One of the techs asked if I'd heard about the new flash, to which I replied "oh yes I HAVE." He said they don't have the update yet, but he's got his eye peeled for it and the service desk will call me as soon as it's available. Soon...

Hey Edgy and XB, which of these two dealers do you prefer??? I need to have the recall and reflash done on my bike and am worried about taking it to Paradise because last time I was there they didn't have any Buells at all and didn't even want to talk to me about my bike. I bought my oil and filters and left. Haven't ever been to Latus. Sorry about the hijack.... got my bike from Downtown HD in Tukwilla, WA.

Much better mileage after the update! My tech told me today that he's annoyed that I always know about these things before he does. Thank you Badweb!

Oh my God no! Just picked mine up from a week and a half in the shop. They did the reflash before I picked it up.

It seems like a different bike. Not just the low rpm stumble, all over. I do not know how to describe it but it just seems to accelerate better.

No power-loss here!

I can finally do 2nd gear power-wheelies! That was something I couldn'd do before, so if anything, there's MORE.

+1 on the no power loss.

I would like to see a dyno run on a pre-flash compared to a post-flash. My "seat of the pants" dyno says the bike makes more power now between 3-4K - and just feels "quicker" (at least to me) when you tip in aggressively. If you tip in slowly and "cruise" through 3-4K RPM, there is no stumble. But I guess the only dyno that matters to me is my "seat of the pants" version.

My grin factor is on full power when riding this bike.

I saw a bike dynoed before and after the latest re-flash and there was no power loss per the dyno readouts.

All I can say is WOW-OMG

took it to dealer today 40 miles away freeway to and from with same traffic conditions each way:

37 MPG going
47 MPG coming

Only noticed a 5 degree difference in coolant temp:
185'F going
180'F coming

AFV values
94.5/94.5 going
100/100 coming

The driveability under 3K is amazing.

Want to give a big THUMBS UP to SOUTHSIDE HARLEY DAVIDSION IN VA BEACH. in and out in under 30 minutes.

Just had the flash done.
Preflash the problems i had were
1:Strong Fuel smell
2:Low speed surging
3:Would always die a couple times when
starting Like it had too low of an idle.
4: Dead battery

After the flash everything on this list seems fixed. Oh ya they also replaced the battery.
I love how it starts right up on the first try and doesn't die.

Harley Davidson/Buell of Pensacola took my bike in this morning. They performed the reflash, and installed the wave rotor Trojan sent me - had it back to me by noon.

I picked it up after work, and took a short ride before taking it to the house. I wasn't unhappy with my bike before, but now I know what is meant by 'low-throttle fluff' - a criticism I saw in one of the ride tests. Comparing my 'old' bike to my 'new' (post flash) one, it was 'fluffy' before - but not now.

I don't know if a dyno run will show any difference, as WFO has always been good on my bike - at least since the solenoid disable. But, low rpm and partial throttle operation is dramatically improved - it's like a new bike. It reminds me of a carbureted bike now - no surging, no holes, and it hits much harder in the 3-4k range.

Fuel mileage is definitely up. Instantaneous MPG number were far out of the range that I have ever seen before. I will burn a full tank tomorrow, and report back - but average MPG on the display (reset when picking the bike up after reflash) was 41 MPG on a 65 mile ride. My average MPG readings have been consistently close to what I have measured. I have never seen more than 38 in the 6500 miles that I have ridden this bike.

My ride today was in my working pants - which are thin - and which I rarely ride in due to road rash concerns. Frame/fuel temps have been so high in the past that riding in these pants has been downright painful. Not so today - even after taking the long way home... : )

I think this flash is a winner, folks. Thank you, Buell!

Jack

I've also has hot frame/boiling gas issues. After the ride home today I measured the tank temp it was only 108'F by the back header and 103'F by the front.

Compared to yesterdays(same outside temp) measured temps of 120'F back and 112'F front, I would say that this is an improvement.

I was finally comfortable really gripping with my knees, I pretty much always wear dress pants.

My idle at start up now hot and cold is right at 1500K and holds that idle without flucuating. It also starts right up hot or cold, which is great.

The MPG in my previous post held true for my 30 mile ride home also averaged 45MPG on the cluster which is normally within .5MPG when I compare at fill up.

I got stuck behind a cop on another ride this evening for about 10 miles duing 55-60 and the instataneous MPG was showing somthing like 52-55MPG the whole time.

My bike is running great!!! I don't have to get the r's up to take off, and the bike is really smooth through the lower rpm range. Also, I did notice more engine braking. What a change after the last factory flash!!!

I think we should applaud Buell and their engineers for their efforts to correct the problems. Thanks Buell!!

Im holding steady at 36mpg post flash , which is still better than the 31mpg average i was getting .

It started out in the low 40's , but slowly started dropping .

But since i've been enjoying the smooth rev's , the crisp throttle and sound .......i might be riding her a little harder than normal

15-20% jump in MPG is sweet. Actually it is AMAZING that we are seeing such a significant improvement in fuel economy. That would put me conservatively at fill-up intervals of 150 miles, using 4.3 gallons. Maybe even 200 mile range on the freeway, using 5 gallons.

I'm freaking excited! That allows me to go farther back in the national parks in the area without worring about running out of gas. Now my Il4 friends will be worrying about running out of gas, instead of me. Nice.

Our thirsty beast just went from worst to first in MPG versus its high performance V-Twin competitors!

What's really great is with targeted injectors and some further tweaking, we could do better than the '09 EPA numbers. It runs just a little too rich in the low ger low RPMs. I think this is eventually a real world 45MPG bike.
