Apparently, my rear turn signals aren't completely out, they are just very dim. Its enough to make my other turn signals blink very fast. Is there something draining the power going to my turn signals? Any ideas?

You need new rear turn signals ,it is a common problem says my dealer. Mine are doing the same thing dealer has new ones on order.

"I've had two go out on me already... common problem, easy fix."

Listen, I'm sorry but,it's an easy fix if you want to use hand signals in the meantime while waiting for the parts.
Otherwise you're parked.

I just had my taillight go out last night and it doesn't have a 1000 miles on it yet. I know this thread is about signals.
I realize it's a bulb and they can fail.

What escapes me is this Buell fanaticism that accepts any and all shortcomings. Yeah it's an easy fix, a call, a trip to the dealer, time, gas.

Are these signal problems going to be solved or are they going to continue to be a common problem(among many others)?

Easy fix? If you love going to the dealer every so often. I've had less signal light problems from my 20 yr. old ZX-10 (38,000 miles)than some of you have had in a quarter of that many miles. And these new lights(LED's) should last quite a while.

Hey,what's that you say? Your headlights went out in a 60 mph decreasing radius turn along a rocky wooded highway.
It's a common problem. Easy fix!

I am just responding to the comment.

Palerider,

I hear what you are saying. I am hoping it was just a bad batch of LED's. I have replaced two under warranty and have to admit...after the second one went out I felt a bit stupid calling the dealer to tell them "it happened again".

I guess the blinkers just don't bother me that much. I hear what you are saying about headlights, but that's not been the problem.

And, with the exception of a tiny, tiny bit of city riding, 99% of what I do is daylight ocuntry road riding, so geez, I could loose all my lights and I probably wouldn't notice for a hundred miles.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling, oh no it's just my turn signal. Get real, there is a major difference b/t the scenarios you described, I agree.

Anybody that needs a spare to get them over the hand signal stage I'll loan you mine. I've got some REAL neat Oberon too.

Just drop me a line and when you get your new one just ship mine back.

Ya, it's a pain when they go out.

It also helps if you turn them in under warranty for replacement so it DOES get fixed (supplier, vendor, assembly, other, etc.).

I'm pretty sure Buell doesn't want to keep paying for rear turn signal replacements under warranty.

Dtx, Jdugger, Ccryder, P_squared,

You guys are right. I,ve never dealt with problems like these on any of my previous rides. Maybe I've just been lucky.

I hope they do get them fixed. LED's should last way longer than conventional bulbs.

Here in Jersey with traffic the way it is (or anywhere for that matter)we need to be as visible as possible. I had my buddies on my rear the night my tail light went out.

I hope the headlights never do that even though the stock ones are poor.

That was just a bit of sarcasm.

Palerider:

You are correct that LEDs should last a lot longer. There is still a bit of engineering that is required to get things to hold up in the M/C environment.

As far as the headlights, what are you talking about?? They may not be HIDs but IMHO, they are more than adequate.

Alright just call me a lighting wh0re, I'll pay for lighting on either end of my M/C if it makes me see better or be seen better. That's why I have HIDs on the front and more LEDs on the rear.

They better have a white cane or a seeing eye dog if they can't see me!

Pale,

I think you are right to gripe about the niggles... these problems do need to get worked out. And, it is a pain to take the bike back to the dealer, etc. Basically, I just have my dealer work out all the niggles when I take the bike in for service. I've always got a list of issues for them to address.

The LEDs are failing probably because of the drive circuit as much as the "bulb". As you state, the "bulbs" in LEDs don't go out much, but the circuits that drive them sometimes are underspecified and don't hold up well in the real world. Returning warranty parts so they can be diagnosed is important to working out the kinks.

There's absolutely NO question the 1125r has a lot of little niggles and annoyances. But, you also get a 2-year warranty and pretty decent factory support. Let's face it, there have been a few major issues, but by and large this has been a new model launch without major problems. I know my bike, now in for it's 18,600 mile service, has been nothing but minor issues: the motor is plowing along better than it ever has. I'll be at 20k before the end of Labor Day : )

And, that's not to say other brands of bikes don't occasionally have an issue. BMW's are notorious for final drive failures. Ducati are notorious (though getting much much better) for engine and electrical issues. Even my Honda VFR, arguably the grandaddy of reliability, once needed a stator! So, problems do happen, even if Buell seems to have relatively more of the minor, annoying kind.

Pain? You bet it's annoying! So, I sympathise with you. But, just take the bike in and get the warranty work done in batches. Overall, it's an amazing bike and tons of fun to ride.

That's my take!

I just visited my Glendale Harley Davidson dealer yesterday after this weekends loss of yet another turn signal light. This will be my third turn signal failure.

The only good thing about this issue is the dealer is replacing them under warranty. The very sad and bad thing about it is, they must take my bike into service and write it up.

This has been a very serious inconvenience for me having to deliver them my bike each time these lights fail. You would have thought that Buell would go to another manufacture and solve this issue. At the cost of replacing them, labor and shipping parts all over the world, they would be more proactive.

They just on't make things like they use to!

That's weird, when my second turn signal went out, Buell overnighted a few to my dealer and if only took about a minute for him to swap it out and toss me an xtra one just in case. He said that Buell wasn't even doing paperwork on them anymore since so many were failing--and the service dept. certainly didn't check in my bike. I think it is safe to say that Buell has been in contact with the supplier(s) and we are probably getting the last of the bad batch(es).

Funny... I just lost both rears today on the same ride... this, after having replaced the left one less than a month ago. I'm on my third turn signal failure as well... hopefully Buell will have this figured out soon.

Really, though, who the heck is going to pass me on this thing?

All I can say is my friends 05 GSXR low beams were as bright if not brighter than my hi's. He ran deer watch up front with his hi's.
I agree with you, Ccryder. I've always used higher wattage bulbs in all my bikes at least on the hi beams.

I read on a past thread that the 1125 wasn't as open to making higher wattage bulb changes ,which is why most of you went HID. I used to run 80/100 or 55/100 on my ZX-10 with no electrical or charging problems.

At least running higher hi beams make spotting deer easier. I just didn't feel the stock 1125 bulbs illuminated the road enough to give me that comfort zone I'm used to.

When the rear goes out does the front signal (on the same side) start to blink very fast?

My right rear went out today.

Yes, it is a bit of a safety feature to let you know that the back one is out. Same way on cars...

My right rear went out a week ago but im too lazy to take it in. I'll check it out and see what other let bulbs will fit. THe voltage might be too high for whats in there if they keep burning out.

Has anyone taken the signal apart yet to try and determine what is failing ? My dealer wants me to bring the bike in to verify the signal is not working before they will order it. Im thinking about pulling it apart and taking it down to my local electronics supplier, a really cool place in Riverside, Electronics Warehouse. They must have a thousand bins with electronic circuit components. If I figure something out I will post it, I just dont have the time for multiple dealer runs.

Hmmm so apparently I don't check my rear turn signals enough. I've noticed they've been ticking faster than usual for a bit, and it was after some dealer work, so I figured the new flash did it. Haha I'm a retard.

I'll check n see, but the rears are probably burned out.

Where did you get the aftermarket one and what was the part number?

Just switch to the non LED ones for the XB's. I had to replace one when someone did a Tommy-Tip-Over on my Uly. They are cheep,
durable, easy to get and should be around a while.
