I did my first track day on the 1125r at Mid-Ohio. All I have to say is that this bike is a blast on the race track.

I had a few small issues with it. The first was the check engine light came on going down the back straight. It went off after a few laps. Then I went through a pretty slow right hander and let the motor get below 3500 rpm and the chuging caused the front end to slide out on me. I came out of it by giving it some more juice. I think that was a little my fault and a little of the bikes. The last thing was the bike seemed to shut off at a very bad time. But it really didn't. I got it upright and it was still running so I just keep going. Also I learned not to over fill the gas tank. That was a bad idea.

This bike is awesome on the track. Once I figured out the gearing and got used to everything I was able to pick the pace up alot. I found that around Mid-Ohio I could run the entire track in third gear except on the two straights. I had one guy behind me on an 07 Kawi 600 that couldn't beleive the way I would leave him on the straights.

It also took me some time to get used to all of the torque. This was the first time I rally got to hammer it. I ended up taping up the speedo because it was messing with my head when I would come up on the pretty tight right hander going down the back straight.

All I can say is that I love this bike. I am a Buell man for life. I am very glad I traded my gsxr750. I am already planning another track day before the end of summer. I wish I could go to the inside track pass but it's sold out.

What did you use for block-off plates?

I actually didn't use any block-off plates. I just ran wire ties around the mirror mounting holes. Then I used black duct for the license plate bracket. I just trimmed it with a razor blade. It worked out pretty well.

There are openings in the advanced class for the Mid-O inside pass.

Dude, learn to 'hang off'! Looking at these pictures is driving me crazy. An 1125R at a good track without a knee on the ground...arggh!

I am still pretty new to track days. This was only my second time. The first was in the rain so we couldn't lean the bike. I have been working on hanging off. I actually got off the bike alot in certain corners.

I may not be hanging off the bike like I should but I am running fast enough to be bumped into intermedeate. I am not pushing the issue about dragging my knee. I am just try to be smooth and hit all my marks. Dragging my knee will come when I finally do everything right.

Congrats on the track day! I'm truly jealous since you're two ahead of me...Leathers will be in-hand ASAP.

As for Mid-Ohio, I've never been there but am heading there in about 8 hours for the races this weekend! w00t!! Anyone else going?

looks like your having a good time out there. keep at it.

As far as your low speed corner issue, there is no reason to ever have a 1125R/CR anywhere below 5000 rpm while at pace on a track. My XB 12 which only revs out to 6250 never drops below 4500. just keep those revs up and youll have a great time.

Be smooth, go fast

Seth

Thanks for the commets Seth. I am planning on shifting the bike more during my next track day. It was just alot easier to leave the bike in third. I did shift the bike alitte bit and when I did it would bring the wheel up in second. Plus I think if would carry more corner speed I may not have to shift very much. I am still experimenting. I know for a fact that I can pick it up through atleast the last half of Mid-Ohio.
