Ok, so I have several questions ... when will this be available, and is it going to be provided free of charge to 08' owners or are we going to have to pay??? Also it states "improved heat management" and "improved fuel economy." How improved???

It's just a software download into the programmable EEPROM of the ECM.

Similar to this one:
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/357538.html?1214282911

ECM updates are typically provided free of charge. I've never heard of one not being free irrespective of vehicle make or model.

Sign me up twice! I have never seen 39mpg on the highway. I would also like to keep the skin on my legs! Does anyone have a definitive answer on the release date?

So is it just the ecm remap that is causing the improvement, or will we also need to get the "targeted fuel injectors and relocated O2 sensors" to benefit?

Guys, take all the new info with a grain of salt...after all it is advertising in effect...the engine is what it is as far as MPG and heat...don't expect miracles.

You can also get 50 MPG up here in CO. Hell, my city is around 38. So, if those numbers from their site are from sea level I can only imagine what I will get up here.

Unless Buell issues a product program, the download will be free, however, you may need to pay labor to have it done.

Once we get the update software for Digital Technician to support 2009 motorcycles, we will be able to re-flash 2008 1125R models.

Yeah, I don't see how MPG could be affected by a different fuel map. I mean it's not like the fuel map is dictating how much fuel is being applied. And heat can't possibly be affected both by fuel and/or spark timing. It's not as if leaner mixtures run hotter or spark timing can affect things such as exhaust gas temps...

Turk, unless bikes are different than cars, you're wrong.

Back when I used to fiddle with an older Camaro of mine, I did a lot of work getting the timing right, and if it's advanced too far, you WILL have overheating issues.

So like I said, I don't know if it's apples and oranges, but changing the timing COULD cure some of the heat. Especially if you consider the fact that they rushed this bike, but didn't have it tuned the way they wanted, so put a "safety" tune on it.

You can only do so much with maps. High performance V Twins don't get outstanding fuel efficiency. The new maps will probably help but don't be surprised if the heat reduction or the fuel mileage improvement is minimal. Of course they "could" cause a drastic change in both those areas but performance will suffer as result.

Lol, sorry Turk : )

Madav8tr, I hope you're wrong, as does everyone else. I'd love to get better gas mileage. And besides, when have you heard of a company claiming higher EPA estimates than real-world reveals? I've always found it was the other way around (like how LS1 Camaro's/Firebirds with a 6speed are rated at 26, but can get as high as 32 at 85mph)

"and besides, when have you heard of a company claiming higher EPA estimates than real-world reveals?"

Are you serious? Most vehicles that I have seen get lower than EPA rated. I guess I think that when the EPA estimates are done the vehicles are driven in a manner consistent with all pertinent laws and therefore not real world driving conditions. I think it was said before that you can get excellent fuel economy if you ride the bike a certain way. That way doesn't usually fit in with the way the bike was designed to operate and typically isn't very fun. It's been my experience with several high performing V twins that fuel economy isn't going to be outstanding....ever. I also don't know if this magic map is going to run richer or not to help with the heat issue as claimed but if so I can't see that helping fuel economy either. Who knows though, maybe the new maps will be different.

I know that when I went on a long group ride around Hwy 101 on May 31st I got 42 MPG for about half a tank while we were just cruising around 35-45 mph. I was being as smooth and gentle as possible on the throttle while not pissing off the people behind me (too much). I was practically idling in 6th gear for most of it.

Then we got to the freeway and it was back down to 28 MPG by the next fuel stop.

Back to the original post...I will try to keep this as nice as possible.

I too question if we should have to pay for this "09 flash"?...or anything else to CORRECT the 08 model's ill operations that SOME of us are still dealing with.

First reflash did not correct many motorcycles.

We were told by our dealers that another flash was being worked on...call it an 09 if you want but this flash was Developed/Learned on the 08!...along with all the other improvements.

Timing is everything when it comes to marketing. I hope this fact doesn't exclude the same pretty ads that captured the 08's market.

The hints floating around seem to be that the 08 owners will be spending more $'s to find resolve. This, after our bikes have depreciated to around 7k trade in value in less than six months.

It is becoming long overdue to hear something from BMC regarding what they've publicly stated as an unknown of. Please, just answer the next two questions with a simple yes or no.

Did you get it "right" on the 09? Are you going to take care of the 08's?

Well said revrend...can I get am amen from the congregation! My legs are tired of all the heat and I want my bike to get better fuel economy than my car! My Busa got 42mpg in the city and over 50 on the highway...that is a bigger motor and a heavier bike...not to mention the management software and map were developed in 01. I will be one bitter cat if we have to pay to make our bikes worth what we paid. I really enjoy the Buell, but with the heat and boiling fuel, not to mention 30mpg...it isn't worth the 12K when you can get a Japanese bike for 1-2K less. We have done the advertising for Buell, we have found the problems, we have suffered though the issues...they shouldn't bite the hand that has fed them for the past year! Number 132 is waiting for cooler temps and better fuel economy. I also would like to run below 2500 rpms without stalling!! I will get off my soapbox now!
