Well, here it is - the inevitable thread...

In a word, NO.

My reasons were good for me at the time, and that is all that counts. For the better part of a year, I have enjoyed a bike I consider to be an exciting piece of motorcycle history - or, at the very least, Buell history.

The changes to the bike are what I expect from a company that strives to improve its product. The new colors are nice, but I have grown to like the blue frame - a bonus now that it is reserved for the original, 25th anniversary bike - a fact that is confirmed with every glance at Erik's script on the triple clamp.

The mechanical improvements are welcome, and will continue into 2010 and beyond. How could I feel shortchanged by that? Some will be downward compatible to the '08 - that's a good thing - and I don't mind having to pay for it.

I thought that Buell made a daring move with the '08 ("The Original".. : ) ), and they have done it again with the CR. I expect that from Buell. I am grateful to them for the opportunity I have had this year to share in the launching and development of this exciting new bike - and for the small and enthusiastic community (membership now locked in time.. ; ) ) that I am forever a part of.

My enthusiastic congratulations to BMC...!..and to those of us who took a chance!

Jack

if you have an 08 I'd guess that those white plastics on the 09 would look damn fine on your bikes. The rest is probably available too, thus I'd rather have an 08 vs an 09 anywho as I really dig the 08 frame color, now if I could just free up some green in order to get a blue...

I agree , for one to expect any manufacturer , motorcycle or otherwise .... not to make improvements to their product , or at minimum attempt to would be foolish to even think .

Most every purchase you make is soon to be followed with the "new and improved model" . To have purchased this bike first year of production and expected it to have stayed the same for next year is crazy , just think what the 1125 will be like when we've ridden the bike till the wheel's fell off and were ready to buy our "second" 1125 .

If anything , I am glad to have jumped on the chance to own this motorcycle . I too have had my share of teething pain associated with the 1125 , but have no regrets , its been over shadowed with things I absolutely love . She's definitely not quite like anything else out there.......and thats just one more thing I like so much her .

If anything I think it's pretty damn cool to be one who will be able to look back and say " I owned an 11 the first year it came out ! and would do it all over again ."

I don't see any "improvements" that would warrant any guilt about buying early. I think everyone expected the minor stuff, mainly to address the niggling complaints that some 08 owners are experiencing but I don't see anything drastic. A gear indicator? I guess, but I rarely look at the tach to check my RPM's so I damn sure am not going to be looking for a digit on a display to tell me. Besides, I KNOW what gear I am in anyway. The "targeted" injectors may be worthwhile but the literature tells me that since the updated '09 maps can be used on the 08's the injectors probably aren't a big deal to begin with. Nothing else really caught my attention and things like colors were expected by everyone. All in all, I am very happy I got the 2008. I like the colors, classic Buell Black and Blue, and the 25th script on the tree. Everything else I cvan take care of later for little money if I decide too.

I knew what i was getting into getting the first year not to mention #182 off the line but i love the blue frame and it will be the more rare model. i just want the fuel maps to possibly help my MPG. and a smoked wind screen might be in order. im am just curious if they fixed any of the heat issues.

Waited!

When I got mine last December it was just in the nick of time. If I had to wait any longer my head might have exploded. I'll join Jack in congratulating BMC on the 1125 and it's continued improvement. I would not have expected less from BMC.

Cheers!

Hell no. I don't regret my '08 decision one bit.

+1 for the gear indicator
+1 on the gearing changes
+1 on the smoke windscreen
+1 on the possibility of retro-fitting some of these changes to my '08 in time

But none of these are enough to make me regret putting a deposit on a 25r way back in July '07.

Am I the only one that thinks that black still looks best?

I really hope that Buell follows up in 2010 with the 1125RR...if not, then I will ride the snot out of my '08 until then!

Even with the quirks, I don't regret mine one bit. The 1125r is still the first production superbike in American history, and I'm proud to own it.

It is also fun when people come up to me and ask, "Wow, is this an Italian bike or something?" And I can proudly say, "Nope, this bike was put together in the U.S.A." It's even more fun when I pull up to an intersection and there are 3 Gixxers sitting there and they are all checking out MY bike!

Now hopefully Buell will sell a bunch more '09s and companies will start making more aftermarket parts for it....

Anyone who would think a 1225 was Italian knows has never seen an Italian bike. Yes it looks foreign, yes, but NOT ITALIAN.

Jpfive here is the other side of the question. Does one buy an 09 at list or an 08 leftover at $2k off? (my situation)

08, unless you really want a different color.

Like they said, many of the updates will be available (for less than 2K) for the 08's anyway.

wondering though if there would be a way to get the spools on the 08's... w/o changing the swingarm.

"wondering though if there would be a way to get the spools on the 08's... w/o changing the swingarm."

Weld bungs on the bottom and attach spool/sliders. A good welder can weld the bungs on with no visible damage to the swingarm with the exception of a little discoloration on the bottom where it isn't seen.

I was trying to wait until the 2009's became available, but I got a 2008 for $9500.00 two weeks ago and the 5th gear recall / upgraded fuel map were already done. So, I am happy with my 2008. Plus, I really dig the blue frame and wheels.

Puzzled, I wouldn't advise you to take the 2008 just to save $2000. I think a 2009 probably commands that much of premium over an '08, and if I didn't already own an '08, I would probably go with the '09 myself.

I _am_ glad that I purchased the first '08 that I could get my hands on, though, as it was that important to me to have one right out of the box. I couldn't wait - and I am glad for the 6,000 miles of smiles I have had on it.

Go with the '08 if the intangibles lead you that way, i.e. blue frame, 25 year edition, a special tug at your heart...that sort of thing.
