Not sure if this made it here yet, but just so everyone is up to date;

Purpose
The purpose of this service bulletin is to communicate to the
dealers, the throttle position sensor will no longer be serviced
as a seperate part on 1125R models. Because of runability
issues associated with replacing only the throttle position
sensor (P0279.5AA), Buell is instructing dealers to replace
the throttle body when a throttle position sensor fails. The
new throttle body will include an installed throttle position
sensor.

Motorcycles Involved
All 2008 Buell 1125R motorcycles.

Required Dealer Action
Notify service and parts personnel of service bulletin. Update
affected manuals listed below.

2008 Buell 1125R Electrical
Diagnostic Manual
(Part No. 99949-08Y)

In 6.8 THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR, DTC P0122,
P0123, P1112, correct text in flowcharts that reads “Replace
TP sensor” with “Replace throttle body.”

2008 Buell 1125R Parts Catalog
(Part No. 99572-08Y)

In THROTTLE BODY, remove “P0279.5AA SENSOR, throttle
position.

Hope this helps,

Chris

I'm not very tech savvy, so forgive me for my ignorance. I rode my 1125 out to AZ. I'm hanging out here for a summer job. Anywho, the last couple of rides I've noticed that while my bike is idling that the RPM needle fluctuates between 1.5 and 3k. Sometimes it feels like it's going to die on me. So yesterday I just let it sit and idle. Engine temp rose to 180 after about 10 min and then it died.

Does the above issue with the TP sensor affect this at all? RPM's are all over the place when it's idling.

It could be your Idle Air Control motor, but there is a way to manually calibrate your TPS to eliminate it as a suspect component.

1. Turn ignition to on, run switch to run.
2. Cycle between WOT and fully closed throttle, resting for one complete second on each stop (WOT, one mississippi, closed, one mississippi...) 3 times.

I'd turn the ignition off, wait 10 seconds, key on and go for a ride to see if idle has improved.

Also, did you get the updated OEM calibration mentioned here:
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/357538.html?1214282911

That could help out, too.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Thanks Chris. I take it that if what you said doesn't affect anything, then the TPS can't be eliminated? I'll try it out today.

What will the cost be involved in replacing the entire throttle body versus just the tps sensor once out of warranty?

"What will the cost be involved in replacing the entire throttle body versus just the tps sensor once out of warranty?"

You have a very good point Slypiranna. That was my thought when Odinbueller posted it. I thought maybe I'd come off too negative if I said what I thought. I mean Buell is trying to fix the problem.
Hope it doesn' fail for a looong time.

Palerider,

Yes, I too often worry of how I "sound" in posting. My wife often tells me I'm about as smooth as 40 grit sandpaper. I am working on it...

But a concern should still be voiced, even if it is a negative. No?

Buell is trying to fix the problem? Replacing an entire throttle body assembly due to a failed tps sensor doesn't make sense to me yet. Perhaps with further technical information from those in the know, I will be enlightened. : )

Mine was replaced when the dealer was trying to fix my poor drivability issues (to no avail, made no difference). I saw a price, it was almost 1k.

Interesting Xb9. Just under $1000.00 huh?

Even half of that would be unacceptable in resolve to a failed tps.

Slypiranna,

You're right. I knew throttle bodies weren't cheap. Guess I was just trying to give Buell the benefit of the doubt. Almost seems like they're throwing in the towel when it comes to fixing a TPS problem. $1000, that's a few sensors.

Either BMC doesn't believe that their techs can r&r a tps and static set it correctly...

or there are problems with the 08's throttle body assembly.

I'm waiting to hear another reason for this.

Bump for possible enlightenment...?

Nothing rude intended before or now.
