I think it's great what you guys are doing, but someone needs to call and make sure they have not sold all of them.

I would not trust them to updated their web site as they sell them off.

This deal is not going to last long, and certainly not as long as it's likely to take to work out the logistics of a group buy. Maybe they will take a deposit or someone will take a chance and buy the bike and get reimbursed by the group after the payment details are worked out.

Then I would switch the proceeds towards the badweb contingency fund...

Sponsoring a racing team is a problem for BadWeB. We just cannot do it, not unless we have a couple hundred thousand $$ to run our very own team.

Short of that, the awards fund is the way to go and offers the benefit of being performance based too.

I think this idea got somewhat off path by the interpretation that Badweb members were willing to help buy this bike and The Badweb Website sponsor a race team...such was not what I was pointing to.

I was merely hinting at donating just the bike (that Badweb members purchased, if it could be made possible) to a race team that could take it from there from a financial standpoint, NOT continued support. The race team would in return, promote Badweb, its members and the overall Buell effort.

OR auctioning it off for charity. (For the same reasons) Again, no financial commitment other than the initial donation and 3% IF Paypal was the method of a donation.

Its funny how one or two entries takes the wind out of what could be a very good gesture/effort for all involved and that all would benefit from.

This thread stopped cold because of the fact that Badweb could not support a full race sponsorship. That was not what I intended, nor what I believe most assumed was the target? If I'm wrong, let me know, it wouldn't be the first time.

I should point out that this post is NOT a negative attack on BLAKE's entry. I appreciate Blake's position and participation and have to respect and voice that fact.

Many that follow one, usually disperse in silence. Many that work together, usually overcome logistics and voice an overwhelming success.

I'm still in if anyone can organize this effort. Whether it be a new or used 1125R/CR is of no matter now but the original idea is...mm

Sponsoring a racing effort at the club level is not helped out very much even if the bike is FREE.

Recurring costs are HUGE - even IF the Badwebbers could all agree on one bike/rider.

Yeah, a free bike would NEVER be refused by ANY racer - but the racing thing is hideously expensive every month - even keeping the bike bone stock and "only" racing at the Club level.

Wonder what it cost HOG back in the day to run "Lucifer's Hammer" with Tilley's?

Monthly bucks at the Club level (about 5 year average - 4 sprints a month, 2 practice/track days) get pretty close to $2K no matter HOW you slice it.

Tires ~ $400

(if you're lucky) 1 engine rebuild per year ~ $100 ($1200 per year) - you do ALL your own labor

Fees ~ $350-$500 depending on organization and number of entries

Medical and Insurance ~ $1000 (it's a cost - whether borne by your company's group policy or whether you pick it up yourself... good insurance that allows you to choose YOUR OWN specialists is CRITICAL)

Consumables (other than tires) ~ $50 (fuel oil)

And I live 30 min from the track so don't have to camp or pay for hotel or an RV and big truck.

Add transportation and meals... gets pricey.

Many racers are still in denial about the actual costs of their racing and so often end up quitting after just a couple seasons because they find they just can't afford it.

If you DON'T have $2K a month to put into it, you really shouldn't consider starting

(and I'm not even adding in medical insurance deductible payments)

Getting Sponsorship from Badweb would be beyond ones wildest dreams.

Getting a bike donated by Badweb-ers would be truly awesome.

Winning Badweb racer support $$$ ISfantastic!!

I’m still in for $100 regardless of how it gets utilized.(towards a bike, or racer support, or else ware on Badweb)

Steve definitely got it rite with the extreme costs of privateer racing.

tires $300 per set, 1-2 sets per weekend

Entry fees $300-400 per event

fuel to get to homecoming and back $1000

misc expenses $400 per event

Kicking butt.......

Priceless

Thanks again to Blake and all those who contributed.

Long live the Badweb racer support fund!

Sly, Sorry if I screwed up the thread and the original intention of providing a bike. I like the idea of all of us regular guys that own one of these great machines getting together and promoting one on the race scene and also at the same time promoting ourselves as the BadWeB.
I figured that the donation of a bike to an existing race team would be enough to constitute some sort of sponsorship but never had any intention on continued support as you mentioned.
I sponsored my own kids for years for amateur level AMA flat track racing, etc. Finally got to the point to where I couldn't afford the time nor the money, not to mention the fact that we were getting really burnt out. We were constantly traveling from state to state, spending small fortunes on maintenance, travel expenses, etc. (2 riders, 3 classes / machines and multiple series).
I'm still very interested in bucking up for the cause like somebody mentioned earlier, It's a good way to give back to Buell and to the BadWeB.

Maybe for an extra $25 each person contributing could get an official "race team" mechanics shirt or something?

Edit: That way when we go to the races we show our presence and pride. (am I getting too stupid with this whole thing?)

I still tend to think it'd get MORE Badweb exposure if Blake were to hand out contingencies.

We could keep the fund floating through paypal. Heck, I'm a racer and like Seth, I'd contribute because let's face it, very few of us are really in line for a full factory ride anytime soon (well, not in this lifetime for me) - so why not toss in another C-note "for the love of the sport." (quoting Mike Hailwood)

BLAKE???

Gtmg, My intention was to trade it for a new '09 "S" version with relaxed ergonomics but since the "CR" has the same ergos I'm letting it go.

Seth, Just bite the bullet and buy mine! I'll even kick in handguards for Pete! It's going on eBay after the 4th.

Smoke, you have email. : )

Meaning that with the award of a machine based upon something other than performance, there is benefit to only one person, the recipient of the bike. Just doesn't sound like a very good scheme to help Buell racers to me.

Not only that, but the red tape, logistics and tax issues dealing with the purchase and then gifting of a motor vehicle across state lines, etc is unappealing. Writing checks is appealing.

And how would we choose the recipient of the machine, and based upon what?

The awards program rewards success in racing for Buell racers, exactly what we are wanting to help support, yes?

I sure do appreciate all the enthusiasm and apologize for not being more specific in my prior response.

If anyone wants to donate to help replenish the BadWeB Buell Racers Awards Fund, you can paypal Contingency (at) BadWeatherBikers (dot) com.

Thanks All, especially Seth, Steve Slaughter, and Pete (GrandStand Designs) Alleso, the voices of Buell racing experience. Your views are very much appreciated here.
