G'day Lionel

Mate make another baffle and tack it inside the D&D baffle you can cut the noise by more than half and still be 2hp and almost 2ftlb of torque better than stock.

you will be pleasantly surprised, believe me i've done it.

Regards Brett

I totally agree with what Brett(Tasmaniac) said. I used these: "www.carchemistry.com" in my 2 1/2" straight through fiberglass packed muffler on my M2 and even gained mid-range H.P. and brought the noise level down considerably. Maybe too big in diameter though for the D&D. Also I have made one like pictured below from perforated steel I bought locally. Just made a cone from paper and duplicated in steel. Bob

Steven(Mr_incognito), both these products, the Car Chemistry and the one I made myself(Dynateck) are available at Jegs and Summit racing products but I do not think they will fit anything under 2 1/2" and why I fabricated the "cone" myself. It needed to fit the 1 3/4" 1125 pipe. Neither reduces H.P. to any great extent and with a relatively open pipe as with the D&D they actually add mid-range. Installation is merely inserting it into the end of the pipe/muffler and securing it with a weld, screws or pop rivets.

I checked the CarChemistry one but it seemed kinda pricey. Is there anything you can think of that would be bought at a local place that would work? Id love to quiet this thing down and now youve got my brain turnin lol.

Sorry lionel i didn't think of taking pics until afterwards but it was just a length of exhaust pipe that slid inside the d&d baffle with about 24 hacksaw cuts and gently ballpened then into dints and a small curved piece of plate welded into the center at each end then gently peened it to fit snugly in the lower end of the D&D baffle i will try and take a pic later and post it

Baffle pic

Couldn't pull it out without die grinding welds off so the best i can do in a hurry was take a pic of the end. it's 2&1/4 inch pipe but what you can see was duplicated down the length of pipe with the little plate at both ends.

hope this helps

Brett

Steven(Mr_incognito), I agree both these inserts are pricey and why I made the second one, the perforated one, myself but remember these have quite a bit of technology and testing in them and are proven designs. Tasmaniac's I'm sure will have some effect in quieting as other baffles similar in design would which are available at many aftermarket suppliers and bike shops and have been for many years for Harley type straight pipes.

G'day Lionel

Mate if you're not using the bike for daily transport theres no need to pull the whole system just undo the four cap screws and wriggle the end cap off, the packing around the baffle is held in place with sticky tape so you will probably need to seperate it from the inside of the pipe with the back of a hacksaw blade and the D&D baffle will pull strait out.

it will only take a couple of hours to make your insert baffle and you will need to go to a high performnce parts shop or exhaust shop to get a new sheet of fibreglass packing which will burn away every couple of thousand miles anyway the steel wool seems to last a bit longer this is under the fibreglass.

Have Fun

Regards Brett

Lionel(Lionboy70), yes it does creates some back pressure and that is desirable when using too open a pipe or system as in straight through packed mufflers. Usually helps mid-range considerably without much loss at top end.

The cone type of insert, if you read their website, says it is not as restrictive as it looks because being long the cross section area is much greater and as I computed the open sections of holes is actually greater then the area of the diameter of the pipe. They both DO work.

G'day Lionel

Sorry for slow reply my baffle did create some more back pressure but it does not seem to be as much as the stock pipe. i have had the bike on the dyno with the sniffer in the pipe and the air fuel graph is close to the stock reading. the pipe runs a very nice colour even when on the track with lots of wide open throttle.

if it runs lean is it going to hurt the bike in the long run
