I swear someone had mentioned some time back (can't find thread) that they had their ignition switch replaced and I wanted to find out why and what their symptoms were. | ||

Your right and I think that they may have had a dead battery problem. I'm not sure though. | ||

That was my bike. Buell was very interested to get that switch and study it. Trouble was that the parts guy called me a month after they did the service looking for the parts they took off. So I don't know if Buell ever got the switch to study. My bikes been find since though. I have NOT used a tender since just to see if it would go dead. Thanks Bearly, I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the lock or not. Though I don't use the lock very often( a couple of times) this incident happened the next time I ride her after using the lock. I was coming home from bike nite with the Hellbuellies and 100 yards from the house it just died on me and I coasted it the rest of the way. Lights and gauges stayed on but no engine ,no cranking like the starter was disconnected. The next AM I took it to my dealer (already scheduled for the recall)and they replaced a blown ignition fuse rode it and as soon as the tech slipped it into 2nd gear it blew it again. Makes you go HHHMMMM...... anyone have thoughts ???? | ||

Blazin, I have wondered for a while now , and I dont have my bike in front of me , but when the bike is turned to the "right" I believe ......the wiring coming out of the back of the ignition switch is stretched and pulled hard to the side , long term effects of this could be shorting and loose connection's IMO , might be worth checking ? | ||

Mine didn't have anything to do with the lock at all. I just was mentioning the lock to reference where the switch was faulty at one point. There were others. The lock on the old switch worked as the new one does. It would drain my battery overnight. | ||

Ok, lesson learned the hard way. Ol'skool doesn't necessarily work with new tech. In an effort to control hand vibes ,which has worked in all my tubers,I put BB's in the clip-ons and it worked great. How was I supposed to know that in the tubes there are 2 holes drilled not just 1. So after over a month two of the BB's worked their way into the switch housing and was the cause of the short and blowing the fuse. $85 diagnostic fee later and plenty of joking about using old fixes on new equipment I was on my way. So use some tape to cover those holes if you decide to try the same thing!!!!! |
