A question has come to me about the "wet clutch" if it is in fact just that. Checking my bike today It appears that the oil sump level is below the clutch housing so I do not think oil will be lost in removing the cover to do the recall work. Now some bikes clutches actually run in a bath of oil but it does not look like that is the case with the 1125. I am wondering just how the clutch is "oiled" and how that relates to the needed oil jet to lube the 5th gear shaft. Does anybody have any idea on how this is accomplished physically. I assume the oil pump sprays or somehow directs oil to the clutch. And then there is lubrication of the transmission itself. Yet another question. Not much in the mini-site engine overview.

I didn't see him taking it apart, but we're doing the recall on our demo right now and the clutch is indeed wet. It appears to be splash-lubed, but there was a goodly amount of fluid in the pan under the clutch cover (removed) during the recall.

The recall is just a orifice plug that goes into the end of the crankshaft. Looks to me that it restricts oil from dumping out the end of the crank shaft. I assume that there are oil holes in the crank that lube the trans and clutch, the restriction plug just makes the oil go through these holes and not just dump into the bottom of the engine. I may be wrong but thats what it looks like to me. My recall was just done saturday. They only had one recall kit so I was the guinea pig.

Hey Teach ,

Dont know about any "special tool" , but my wheels sure must be special , they're telling me around 3-5 weeks to get them in , and it doesn't matter what color i pick !!!

Stop in the back and check on her once in a while , maybe put her on a battery tender and wipe the dust off her !!!

It goes on the end of the transmission clutch shaft, not the crankshaft.

A brass drift is the proper tool. The "inner" side of the oil jet has a slightly smaller O.D. to facilitate aligning it perfectly in the shaft. It's made of brass, so it's recomended to use a brass drift to drive it home (even with the end of the shaft).

It comes with user-friendly instructions : )

And it is not a plug, it is a jet. Restricts flow, increases velocity, still allows lubrication.

Thanks for the info. I was told a "special tool" was needed for installation" and it had to be ordered before the install could be done. I will have to make sure our mechanic visits badweather website to gain more info.

Thurstonbuell, you are a saint. You have had so many issues, yet you still are enthusiastic about your 1125R. I will check your bike out, what color of rim did you order?? I will try to help...

Oops! The orifice plug goes into the clutch shaft as Xb9 stated. I got a little distracted, my boss was blaaa, blaaa, blaaaing to me in the back ground. Sorry.

Good info guys and to the second part of my question; how is the transmission lubed? Chevycummins suggested oil holes in the crank. If that is the case the plug/orfice will also put more oil on the whole trans. Buell engineering moving forward even after the sale. GREAT! I am just waiting for my dealer to get the parts kits in and they said "any day now". Kinda reminds me of Smokey Yunick and Grumpy Jenkins and all their "tricks" to make H.P. and make an engine last in racing performance. These kind of folks are few and far in-between and they are winners. Thanks Erik and all the Elves. You are in fine company.

Bob_thompson, My fault, I meant the trans clutch shaft not the crank. Looks like the trans has pressure lube to some of it and the orifice will limit the amount of oil that comes out the end of the clutch shaft so more will come out in the trans.

so just a brass drift huh... i'll have to lead my dealership over this way (again) maybe this time they'll listen. (probably not)

And thurston, there are a couple sets of XB wheels for sale on Ebay. One cherry red and one amber. Amber was used, red was new from HD and B of St. Paul MN.

Teach ,

After not being able to ride my 11 for awhile, I was excited to rekindle my romance with the bikes I garaged since I bought her .....

Well , that lasted about a week , then I started to compare them to "HER" , now the romance is over , and all I can do is think about my beloved 11 .

All kidding aside , I REALLY do miss her , and hope things go quicker than expected .I guess even I didn't realize how sweet she really is , she just blows my other bikes away , " quirks " and all , she's a GREAT bike !!!

I cant wait to have the leaky hub , and the recall behind me , and to see her with her new translucent red rim's .

Maybe the new flash will be out before I get her back and I , I dont plan on giving her up till old man winter returns and shows his ugly head !!!

And Thank's Cutty , I'm looking into it now !!!

I am at the dealership tonight, I will check on your rims. I believe service was installing the jet in the demo bike. (trying to) That leaves one kit unspoken for. I will tell them to put that into your bike. Hopefully, you will be back on the road soon.

That would be the only special tool you would need.

You could make one out of a 17MM socket.... just needs to put a couple of flats on the O.D. of the socket : )
