I've bought the recommended harley cleaners/polishers and I still have lots of swirls, bug scratches and rub marks on the gas tank.
What do you guys use?

I use Protect All. You just spray it on and wipe it off and it gives a great shine. The stuff is easy to use and does not take much time. It really made the bike shine and it dramatically improved the look of the seat and dull plastic parts like the piece the license plate mounts to, the various plastic covers and the blinker stems/housings.

Here is a link to some good reviews on all types of cleaners, polishes and waxes.

For final polishing of the plastics, I prefer Plexus and an inexpensive microfiber cloth to the Novus 1 HD recommends.

Don't use paper towells. They (finely) scratch plastics.

Make sure your cloth is clean...dont leave it laying on the shelf in the garage then pick it up after sitting for 2 or 3 weeks...all that dust and dirt is not good...put them in a ziplockbag or in a clean drawer. Microfiber works just like a feather duster and then you smeer and scratch your plastic all the hell.

Get some microfiber cloths and buy this stuff in a blue bottle at oreillys or any auto place called Ice Detailer Spray....its the only thing I use..its amazing...and it smells like fruity pebbles!!
