hey guys, i went on a 90 mile ride this weekend and about half way through i noticed black fluid had trickled down the clutchcover. there is a very small whole under the little point on the cover... that seems to be the source of the leak. is this something i should be worried about or should contact the dealer about?

Royce, same thing happened on my bike.

My dealer fixed it no charge under warranty, but took almost 2 weeks to do the job. They replaced an O ring, but depending on the condition, they may need to replace the slave cylinder on your bike.

If you dont get it fixed, eventually, the DOT4 fluid will take the paint off the cover, where it leaks out, and you will need to constantly check/add more fluid to your clutch resovoir.

Best of luck to you.

Ray

Known issue, there is an updated/redesigned clutch cover/slave available. See your dealer, it should be replaceable under warranty.

Mine leaked as well.
And I took it to the dealer and they determined which parts were needed. I kept the bike while the parts were on order. The dealer told me to keep an eye on the fluid level in the hyd. clutch reservoir and top off with Dot 4 fluid if it got low.

Once the replacement parts were in, they did the job in 3 hours while I waited. the cover was one of the parts they replaced.

So yeah, stop by the dealer and get the process started for ordering parts.

well, i WAS pleased with my dealer, but i'm neutral after today. i stopped in and informed them of what the problem is. the service guy said he needs the bike for extended period of time to tear it apart to find out what is wrong and what parts will be needed. he informed me it will all be under warranty. but the thing that upset me was he nor anyone else in the service department was willing to even look at the bike! i informed him that i in NO WAY can be without the bike for more than just over night because i have no other form of transportation at this time. to which he informed me that theirs not much he can do for me then!!! wow! anywho, i scheduled the chekup over the 4th of july cuz i will be outta town for a week. i hope it is done when i get back!

Mine started leaking today. I went down to the dealer and asked them to get all the parts and tell me when they come in. That should be next week. Once the parts are in, I will take it in and get the O-rings replaced. Hopefully, they do not have to put one of those new covers on it, because those seem to be on backorder, from what I have heard. My bike is also leaking from the switch on the other side too. Neither of the leaks is too bad, so it should be good till they get the parts. I will just keep an eye on the fluid level.

i would be happy if my dealer did that, i even asked him if they could order the parts and i can have the bike back and he told me no because they have to tear it apart to find the reason its leaking!! my leak isnt bad either a little drip once a day mayb twice at the most.

I wasn't about to leave the bike, it is my primary mode of transportation. It may bite me in the butt later, when they take it apart and find they need more parts than what they originally thought, but for right now, I am happy to drive it around until the parts come in. Besides, there are several dealers within 20 miles of where I live. If the dealer was not willing to work with me, I would just go to another dealer.

I took my bike in and had the safety recall done, and they looked at the clutch cover leak. When I picked the bike up they told me that they contacted HD about it. They were told by HD it should stop or at least not leak as much now that the recall was done. Have any started leaking again after replacing the O-ring?
I am I getting bogus info?
Please advise!

I would suspect that to be on the bogus side.

When I had my clutch leak addressed, there were several parts involved that in the tech's judgment needed replacement. The slave cylinder itself was replaced since it was scratched. Just replacing the o-ring, probably isn't going to do it.

If I were you, I'd ride it and keep an eye on it.

I just spoke with a Buell tech at the factory. He said the leaking fluid could be either the slave cylinder or an oil seal gone bad. Also, he said that the clutch cover has not been redesigned and that the recall kit does not address the leaking problem.
