I thought I had read about Steve C. and Shaun Higbee working on the suspension from you. I called Traxxion Dynamics to see what they have and low and behold they say they have a twin speed rear penske for the 1125r. Also a setup for the front forks using their ak20 cartridge, which sounds nice from what I have read so far. So I was wondering if you guys have tried this setup and your likes and dislikes. Was thinking of going with the suspension upgrade before the exhaust as I know better

I am JUST LEAVING for the Burbank airport.

YES - to BOTH ends of your bike.

I paid my own money for AK20 gas cartridges before ANY involvement with Higbee and his 1125R. I didn't have a chance to install the forks before I wrecked the bike in the race (they came in UPS the WEEK before I wadded it up - hey, you NEVER plan to crash!)

I also got a dual-rate Penske (which I destroyed in the wreck)

Traxxion really does understand the Buells and Max or Dan can set the shock and forks pretty much on the money for your first time out. Just set your sag on both ends (ask them but almost universally start at 35mm front and 25mm rear)

A friend of mine races CMRA in Texas and they had an Ohlins sponsorship and were asked to try the Traxxion AK20 gas cartridges in their GSXR forks. They never put the Ohlins Superbike forks back on the bike. That is why I ordered mine. I had Max at Traxxion re-valve, re-spring and build the forks for me with the AK20 rather than chance it myself.

Thanks alot! I thought that would be the case, now time to figure out how many extra shifts I need to pay for both ends. Got enough spare for one end right now. Think I'll go with the forks first.

To bad about your wreck and never really getting the chance to use the new stuff. Had a 60 mph lowside Sunday at the track myself. But the 1125r seems to crash well, odds and ends stuff to be replaced is all it will need.

Yessiree.

Since I never installed the AK20 - modified forks, the new front end will be a bolt-on. The front end I destroyed was a stock (41mm) - revalved and resprung by Traxxion.

Still have to buy the Penske. Fortunately Jack Pfeiffer has a few extra and has said he'd sell me one. Same eye-to-eye length... and I still have the spring (about the only thing salvageable)

The resurrection has started. Cases and bottom end out to DarkHorse Crank Works for work.

Heads are out to NRHS - Probably nothing to be salvaged but I also sent the stock XB9 heads out too. I'll end up with ONE set of heads (race heads were damaged when the engine and rear end were torn out of the chassis)

Darkhorse is going to lighten/balance the flywheel/crank/rods/pistons and check out the cases.

Both wheels are bent but not badly enough - will see about having them straightened. Since I have now TWO rolling chassis, I need at least one good set of wheels.

Much to do... hope to be racing again in September.

You would do really well in calling Max or Dan at Traxxion and getting what you need. There are other shops but they've got almost a couple decades of working with various Buell iterations.

Thanks I will be calling them soon. Any idea which I should do first, front or back? If you get yours running before I get mine setup please post up your thoughts on the ak20s.

I was thinking of doing the front first to help the brake dive and feel in the corners. Or maybe I should wait till I can do both. Haven't decided yet!

Was also thinking of getting the 6mm thick rotor from Buell Racing if I can find a way to order it along with the pads. You would think KBC or someone would have some better pads out by now. Smoke (aka tim) said he got some EBCs off ebay for the 1125. Have to ask him more about it.

Yikes. I can't really recommend front over rear... I can think of reasons for both. Rear shock for throttle ON (driving out - after apex), Front for brakes ON (braking/turning... kinda... generally sorta)

Heavy rotor and EBC HH have done well for me but REAL racers burn through the EBC HH pads really fast. Slower guys like me seem to get a full race weekend and then some out of a set of them.

I am not able to recommend pads for the 1125R because I don't have experience and don't know what Shawn is using
