I'm new to this link and have just replaced my rear tire at 3200 miles.
Replacing the rear tire every 2-3K miles will tend to get expensive.
Has anyone tried a duel compound tire?

Terry

I went to the Conti Road Attacks as my 1st set on the 25r. Or you may want to try the Michelin Pilot Roads 2. I have them on my ST1300 and get 9-11,000 miles with great traction wet or dry.

The OEM Pirelli IS a dual-compound tire.
If you're doing highway/commuting mostly, keep your tire pressure on the high side.
Makes a huge difference in tire life and fuel efficiency.

Not so good for hard leaning, so drop a few psi when you hit the twisties.

I got 6100 miles out of my first tire, Shwinston says he got 8743 from his!

Yes, I was just going to mention that mine lasted quite a few miles, but Zac4mac already mentioned it.

My threads were showing at 8743k, so I guess I could have changed it sooner. I didn't notice my threads till last week though.

Zac4mac is the only other person on here that has mentioned a high mileage out of his rear tire. I don't understand how the rear tire is being worn out in almost a third of the miles of mine.

Zac;
From what I've read here so far no one is getting good MPG including myself, around 32.
You say high pressure. Meaning 40 or more?

I've been running mine at the max listed on the sidewall, 42.
AVG mpg has been constant at 37 since "break-in".

Terry:

You're right, the mpg isn't great, but I've been getting up to 38 mpg, riding around 80 mph. Once I start riding 90+ it's dropped to 35 mpg.

I don't know of many bikes in it's class that get a whole lot more then that, but I'm a little ignorant in that department.

The FACTORY RECOMMENDED pressures will get the highest mileage and SCARY handling/poor traction.

This is a PERFORMANCE bike. Keep it pretty much upright and don't use the throttle in turns a whole lot - and I'm betting you CAN almost always get more than 5,000 miles.

Most folks I know on litrebikes with regular canyon usage can RARELY get even 1000 miles to a set of tires around here.

If tire and gas mileage is a concern, sell ME your 1125R : ) There are MUCH BETTER bikes out there that don't burn tires and get MUCH BETTER gas mileage

(insert evil/wicked cartoon smiley here)

The only way anybody'll get my 1125R is to pry it...

It's a great all-around-bike.

As I said, when you hit the twisties, drop a few psi.

Handling is super in my eyes, slow, fast, upright or in a lean, best I've ever experienced.
Hard leans aren't stable at high tire pressure, so drop a few psi then.

Think I'll put on my leathers and hit the hills, off today and tomorrow.

I agree with Zac, "Pry It". As far as keep it upright and and don't use throttle that ain't happen' either!!

Just wondering if anyone has tried a different rear tire and what were the results?

You guys sure know how to hammer this innocent rider who knows how to get more mileage and tire life!

(geeez, I gotta see just how I'm gonna get an 1125R into the budget - the racebike is going to be bleeding me dry now that the "resurrection" has started)

The new Dunlop Roadsmart is a duel compound tire.

The tire companies ALL make dual or triple compound tires.

MOST people who wear out tires show the wear mostly in the center - and that's where the manufacturers use the hardest compound tires.

If you are using the stock Pirelli Corsa III that came with the bike and you need more tire life, you might seriously think of looking into a touring type tire.

My problem with tire life was always traced to my right wrist.

Got Michelin 2cts all round. Far more feel than the Diablos. Dont know about longevity yet, dont really care either.Price on tyres is a lot less than the bloody petrol over here anyway.

2CTs are fantastic! Awesome on a Bad Weather Bike like mine. I've been doing power wheelies in the rain with no rear tire spinage like the pirelli's would do.

I'm liking them, a lot.
