Well, my dealer can't figure out how to get the reflash to even load, not that ,after reading all the mixed feed back, I even want them to! After owning 3 Buells before this and having no issues,I would have to say SOMEONE dropped the ball on the original mapping, and more so on the remap....at least not communicating to there representatives (the dealers) the proper procedure to fix there $12,000 bikes! I think I'll put up with the surging till a definate fix is developed, I got 2 years.....pity

Just to be clear.
I don't have any problems with the reflash.

What I have a problem with is, Loretta got reset to factory state for fuel/spark mapping.
Lost all the learned values that she ran smoothly with.

I want her to learn where she is and run smooth.
My baby is NOT retarded... she's just slow.

Are you sure it's not the loose nut behind the bars?????

I had that problem until I learned the German method for torque....Goot'n-tight.

It's strange to me how everyone has worse low-range after the flash, since my experience is the total opposite.

Mine ran VERY poorly below 3750 before the flash. SOLUTION: Stayed above 3750 and didn't complain. Wanted the flash when it was announced, specifically for the cure to battery draining.

After the flash, I'm smooth down to a hair below 3000 (about 50-55 MPH in 6th). Don't have any desire to run it below that. I bought a high-revving twin, and I like to ride it like one. If I wanted to put around at 2000-2500 all day, I would have kept the Harley.

Ponti - I think your experience with the reflash is consistent with most of us. Relatively speaking, only a few have had negative experience post reflash.

I live right on the shores of Lake Erie , I can really only head one direction to get to rural riding grounds , and that direction is South , South right thru the city , till I get thru town , Well , I have to do alot of 25 mph , school zone , stop and go , She used to handle this beautifully , and again I am comparing things to what I once had , prior to the flash , with the same bike , Now she surges , stutters and stumbles , wether it's first gear held steady at 3500 , taking off from a light , or more subtle at cruising speeds , open road above 4500 or 5000 rpms , my dealership is working on these issues with BMC , and I am confident there will be a solution ,till then I realize she's anxious to get going , so am I , She just needs to settle down , now I'm thinking ,just maybe she has turrets disease

To everyone that says they never ride in the below 3-4000 rpm's how do you go around corners. A poster here said his died in a corner why he was in a lean position.

I would think ignoring the problem is naive and that you are forced into low RPM situations more than you think.

CC ,

You mean a cure for turrets ?

Or what I guess is spelled "Tourette's"

A condition characterized by involuntary movements and sounds ?

I sure hope so !

A state of the art bike should "carbuerate" cleanly in all situations, not only high speed cruising, but slower around town "putting" At the moment mine does the high speed GREAT, but, the low speed stuff only ok...seeing how I use my bike around town in stop n'go as much as interstate blasting ,the surging and the on/ off switch of a throttle, make it a challenge at times to ride smoothly.

I count my lucky stars I guess.

My XB9R runs like a champ (20K miles). My 1125 runs like a champ as well (7000miles). The point here is that Buell can make perfect bikes. For some reason (the big mystery) some of them aren't perfect once they get out in the wild.

Mine is just a testament to the fact that they can run right. I am not trying to detract from those that are having problems. I believe they are indeed real problems. I just didn't want it to be lost in all of this that there is at least one bike that operates like a dream (mine).

It requires perfect fuel mapping in the low to medium rpm range to operate a bike in LA traffic where lane splitting and stop and go traffic is commonplace. In this environment, a stumble could be very dangerous.

Brad, if you anticipate your corners, you can easily enter and exit without ever touching the sub-3K range. Honestly, I wouldn't lie to you...

Thanks Ponti1 ,

I understand. I'm also one that likes to stay in the power curve. I just happen to ride with some people that do not keep the RPM's up in the tight Colorado hairpins. I do empathize with those that want their bike to run like Doerman's. Heck, when the 2009's come out I want mine to be smooth everywhere also. Hopefully.

"If I wanted to put around at 2000-2500 all day, I would have kept the Harley."

Well I guess I need to move to Montana or some thing .....

80% of my riding is hauling ass like the rest of you , she does that just fine , just saying that getting outta town to go do it is a pain in the ass .

Why is it everyone thinks those of us who are having these issue's , are riding these around like mopeds thru town all day long ???? .....

I guess when riding with other riders , and they comment as to " what's up with your bike dude , it runs like $*#% " , I should just tell them , " Ya well , it's not supposed to going thru town , it was only made to run good WFO " ?

Lastly , and once again , those of us who are having this issue , are comparing this to the bike's characteristics prior to the flash , which in our case's , was much better , that's all

Yes I did. Got the re-flash about 1500 miles ago. It got a tad smoother (could be perception tricking me) and is getting better average fuel mileage by about 3mpg.

Asbjorn, any negatives that you have experienced post-reflash (loss in power, bike running warmer, etc.)

I'm not sure if anyone else has posted this yet,but now that I've had a chance to get mine reflashed this is what I was told; I would need to bring the bike in long enough for it to completely cool down ie.COLD BIKE or a threat of a fried ECM. So I had to ride back home ,load it up and leave it overnight. This per the tech's instruction,: only I hadn't read about that one yet and he already knew battery charge, plugging in the digitech, and leaving the key off scenarios.

So hopefully I'll be riding home on a completely changed (for the better)bike.

I have had the reflash for a little while now and It seems to have improved the "jerkiness" at low RPM a little, but it is still rough below 3000. I have the luxurious pleasure of driving through Manhattan traffic on a daily, averaging blazing speeds of 3-15 MPH in many areas in town and on the freeway. When I do finally get into semi-open roads, the bike seems to like it around 4000-6000, so I end up in third most of the time and some fourth. Very rarely do I get into fifth or sixth. Massaging the throttle and clutch in traffic sucks, but it is still easier to ride than the Blast I used to have. The gas mileage also got better with the reflash, so I am happy with that. I was getting 27-28 mpg, but am now getting 30-32 mpg. I would much rather stroke her hair in traffic and be able to haul a** when I want too than run great at low RPM and have to hope no cars hit me as I feebly attempt to pass. The bike is great!!

Whenever the low RPM stuff gets to me I just take a corner (at reasonable speed, of course ) and I forget all about any low RPM issues.

To put this all into perspective, I just think about the '69 Camaro I had that was "high performance". It had a Small Block 400 bored out to 406 and the stall converter didn't even kick in until 3000 RPM. When I had a 4 speed in it, I would be in 3rd before getting out of the driveway. I also had a Mazda RX-7 that was beefed up and had a "push-button" clutch. Now that was annoying in traffic. For the performance in all the other areas, I am more than willing to get over the minor low RPM stuff.

All things considered, this bike is bad a** and gets me where I am going with a huge grin on my face. I will suck it up at 3 mph so I can enjoy the hell out of it in just about every other situation. All that and I still get better gas mileage on my bike than in my economy car and tolls are only half price (at least in NY).

What could be better?

I sorta know the answer to this already, but anyone do a pre and post dyno in relation to the re-flash? That might be interesting even if it tells us that there is no power loss with the new ECM programming.

Confused-To re-flash or not re-flash, that seems to be the question? "Diablo" (yes, that's what I'm naming her) is and always has been jerky and chattery in low RPM.

One thing I really miss about my XB was I could coast to a light in any gear I wanted and downshift when I was good and ready. "Diablo" insists that I downshift her in motion on the way to the light or she gets all cranky. And...had my first (not my fault) stall after a long ride, she apparently just decided, uh I'm gonna stop here now, really p...d me off. Good thing I was paying attention or I would have been taking a nap underneath her (for those of you who remember my stats). I've noticed the weak MPG too, particularly in highway.

I'm also taking her to a chop shop. Don't worry, she just needs a little nip-n-tuk. Tired of waiting for a lowering kit so I'm gonna see about getting the rear coil cut and some fork work. Maybe a custom seat. I'm good at stops and starts with height but when it comes to backing in and parking, let's just say it aint cool to have to have someone park my bike for me. Screws with my ego......

Michelle:

I had the flash done and it cured more than 85% of the issues I had previously. My advice is take it to a Dealer that has done flashes before. Experience is the key here.

BTW, let's see some picts of you and "Diablo".

Later

Yes Harlan, I got the re-flash when it first came out. I have put on about 2000 miles since the re-flash.
I had a good running bike before the re-flash and think I have a better (low rpm) running bike now. The difference is imperceptible so perhaps imagined. But I can say this.
I am getting better mileage (about 2mpg average) and the bike is running cooler as well. I cant say if I gained/lost power by butt-dynamo. Seems to me to be the same as pre-flash.
