I am wanting to join some buds for a track day, and have some questions as to how best to make my bike track worthy, but still OK for the street. What are my options concerning a coolant that is acceptable for track use? Water wetter would work here in Florida for at least nine months out of the year. I would prefer something that will work the other three months. Is there an accepted track day coolant that still provides some minimum degree of freeze protection? Jack | ||

Has there been any indication that standard glycol mixed in your ratio of choice with water wetter isn't sufficient? | ||

Engine Ice would work for you year round in Florida, but check with the track organization to see if it is acceptable. | ||

XB9 beat me to it. Engine Ice would work, its good down to -26 or -27 degrees. Check with your track day organizer. | ||

Check first - very few track day organizers require the use of non-lubricating coolant (water and Water-Wetter for example) but NO race organization allows lubricating coolant. Some track day organizations might require it in advanced group only. I'd say that IF you are allowed to use your regular lubricating coolant, just use it. I run Engine Ice in my Gixxer track mule and it's accepted by both Sportbike Track Time and NESBA. I will be doing the Ed Bargy Racing School in September and will have to change to Water Wetter, which is fine by me as my bikes live inside my house. I don't worry about freezing up. Now...Water Wetter will not lubricate as well as Engine Ice, but as far as coolant goes, distilled water and Water Wetter is the bomb! | ||

Check your local track day requirements. Most tracks have some restriction on the advanced group for track days but not on the other groups. Where there are track day restrictions it usually is just no ethylene glycol (conventional antifreeze). They do usually allow Propylene glycol such as Engine Ice or Water Wetter. |
