Wrong again. I'll quote directly from the post I just made in another thread dealing with just such concerns.

boiling fuel inside a fuel tank is not a danger in and of itself. I've heard it happening inside the fuel tank of my Buell Cyclone. Some common formulations of gasoline include constituent hydrocarbons that will begin to boil off at as low as 80oF. The gasoline formulations for Wintertime or cool weather include more of those more volatile hydrocarbons than Summertime or warm weather formulations.

What IS problematic is if your fuel tank vent is faulty and not allowing excess pressure to escape. That is it.

A hot muffler will not ignite gasoline. Gasoline requires an ignition source, either a spark or flame or a hot enough source to heat the gasoline to over 500oF in order to instigate combustion. No Buell 1125R motorcycle muffler is getting anywhere near hot enough to ignite gasoline.

Your bottom line is what? In 2-3 sentences what do you expect from Buell?

Honest open communication. Explanations where warranted (no trade secrets of course). That would go a long way to quell the internet grumbling.

Here's the problem that you're missing. When any liquid boils the liquid turns to a gas and raises the pressure suddenly. This is just asking for trouble. If the fuel boils frequently, and you combine it with the rare failure of a non venting tank, then the rare non venting problem is likely to cause severe injuries. If the vent is working properly, you can still fill an enclosed garage with explosive gas fumes. As others have pointed out, an ignition source could be a hot water pilot light, or perhaps someone smoking a cigarette nearby. IMHO, heating the fuel tank to the point} that gasoline frequently boils is just not smart engineering.

I think a big part of Buell's precieved realiability issues overseas, is the general distain for anything American..especially if it doesn't seem to follow the "normal " way of doing things. Buell has an uphill battle, no matter what bike they build, just because it isn't a Ducati or a KTM or MV. even though it can do the same things as these other bikes, some how it's not as good or it's held to a higher standard. My brother's Goldwing was recalled for the frame, a remap on the ECM, but no one says the Wing or Honda in general, is crap, but if Buell's muffler gets rusty, the worlds coming to an end.When Buell let the press ride pre production bikes they blasted the bikes even though they were told that they were PRE production. My 1125 is my 4th Buell ,and I fully expect it to be the best one yet, and if it happens to have first year growing pains, I'm sure Buell will take care of me. I'm glad to own a part of motorcycle history...the 1125 IS a benchmark sportbike . It may not be a Ducati, but I didn't want one, just as the Corvette ain't a Porsche,it doesn't mean it can't do the same things, just in a different way.

Huh?

Where do you thing the most Buells are sold? What country can arguably been said to have "saved" Buell?

Buells BIG market is the overseas market.

Buells . . . and I should probably whisper this here . . . are selling like hot cakes at present.

Buell will only be responsible for saving "itself", no one else...no one else has or will control that.

My opinion, I think they are on the right track.

Only if the liguid is boiling vigorously and is enclosed in a small pressure-tight vessel.

If... if... if... if your arm cramps and convulses as you are eating, then the rare fork in the eye problem is likely to cause severe injuries.

I've never ever heard of any motorcycle fuel tank exploding from pressure build up, ever. But your contrived drama would make for an interesting movie scene.

I HIGHLY doubt that. To fill a garage with stink is much different than filling it with enough gasoline vapor to support combustion. The amount of heat required to vaporize that much gasoline is not available inside the fuel tank of an 1125R, running or no.

You have a great imagination, but let's please stick to scientific fact.

But as I stated in another thread, if your 1125R is venting copious amounts of gasoline vapor, then immediately notify your dealer and arrange to have it diagnosed and the problem resolved.

I went to a factory school in '07, and there was a guy in my class that was a Service Operations Area Rep (SOAR) from Australia. He said that Buells outsell Harleys in some parts Down Under.

I remember hearing a local Buell rider complaining that all the cool Buell stuff was online and only on non-english-speaking sites. And he was stumped as to why. (all the more reason to support American Sport Bike!)
