So I rode the 1125R down to our local bike night this evening. Of course it was the center of attention amongst all the cookie cutters. Lots of people came up and complimented the bike and said how much they liked it, especially in real life.

Interestingly the most common comments were:

That exhaust is cool looking...

and the front fairing is sweet!

One person even said the bike flows together nicely referring to the radiators/frame/swingarm transitions.

Weren't these some of the items people couldn't get past?

Good job Buell. It's a looker!

Gosh Drake that's a great story. I find the same thing. People are so impressed with the way the bike looks. The largest group of people that complain are badwebbers. Weird eh?

People approach me are from all demographics. Some Bikers some not.

My neighbor who owns a ZX10 came running up the other day surprised to see another bike in my garage. He really like the fairing and the look of the unique radiators.

I was getting my gear off and putting some shoes in the doctors parking lot Thursday when this old German guy burst out of his German car, asking questions about the bike. He said proudly, "That's got to be a German made bike ya? I said no it isn't. "Ah ha" he said excitedly, "Dis is a Italian motorcycle den? Buell! What is dis Buell?" I told him that it was a Division of Harley Davidson and he cut me off said "Yes, dis is da Porche motorbike den ya?" I said no. He said that it looked like German or European design. He loved the frame, and the front brake. I could hardly get away from him. I wish I could have taped the conversation, he was so excited.

And a FZ something a nother paced me a little showing thumbs up and nodding his head. I thought he was going to do a back flip at 75mph.

I was the same way when I saw it.

+1 Bearly. I've had similar reactions. A lot of folks seem to share my view that the bike is provocative...and cool.

As the owner of a Busa I know this paradox well. No one ever tells me anything but positive glowing accolades yet I know its ugly, and I know must people think so. But I'm ok with that.

Its a lot like showing baby pictures, we have all seen the ugly baby but say oooo what a cutie. Once you own something you will not receive an honest assessment.

If you want a honest assessment have someone that understands design what they think. I think its very enlightening to show different objects and get feedback. AS the manager of a marketing department I do this often. The 1125R was heavily criticized by the team for the different angels proportions and shapes. Most of these people know nothing about motorcycles immediately picked out the difference from the new parts and the old parts. They did not know what was what but almost all said this don't match that.

Most criticized the Busa too but I don't feel the need to reassure myself a fantasy world that its a looker. I bought the bike to use, not to show. Most of its shape has to do with air management, not design.

True form over function.

The 1125R had a world class engine! You will see with later models where more time and dollars are used a more comprehensive design.

I'm not Buell bashing I'm excited about the future but I clearly see this first iteration was a means to an end. The least expensive way to get that engine to market FAST in hopes of increasing revenues and to be included in the 25th anniversary lineup.

The most important thing is that you love and enjoy your bike. We all (white lie) everyday to people about their weight, clothes, haircuts etc. Only true friends provide the unvarnished truth.

Brad,

You are right, the engine is the BEST part of the bike, in my opinion.

But this was assessed by the most bonafide poser squids in the world! They would tell me how it is.

I do admit, your comments did make me chuckle a bit. There were a few who had their negative comments, and they were usually referring to the size and length of the radiator pods.

Thanks for not toasting me DTX, and on the flip side I'm so jealous that you first adopters already have that engine with Buell handling.

I have had zero negative comments about the 1125r-in fact there have been more people gushing over the bike than I can count. I understand that people are going to be polite and complimentary to an owner when checking out his bike, but that is way different than slobbering all over it.

I also think it is comical that some Badwebbers are accusing others of being drunk or without taste when they are positive about the 1125r looks...maybe, just maybe, those people need to reassess who exactly has the bad taste?

Dtx, was it a sport bike night, or cruiser crowd? I once took my XB9R to a cruiser bike night. I don't think they had any idea what it was. It usually got positive comments from the sport bike crowd, even though most didn't like the air-cooled engine.
The local HD dealer let me test-ride the 1125R. I'm going to try to convince the owner to let me take it to a sport bike night (I shoot video projects for him). For advertising purposes, of course.

It was a sport bike night. No cruisers at these spots.

It's bit different when someone whips out their baby pictures and makes you look at them VS someone that goes out of their way to come over to you and fall over drooling over your baby (in this case motorcycle). Or People honking next to you in traffic just put a thumbs up in the window.

Just an observation:
My best buddy has a bike called a Hayabusa? After people come over and goggle over the 1125r then will tell him "oh, your bike looks cool too". Ah, I guess it makes him feel better anyway.

Go Buell! Think Positive!

always the same. When I bought me my Katana ...must be hundred years ago... friends came to me with criticism about the stile. Now it's a milestone in design of motorbikes.

Now the 1125r. First complains about the hamster chops and than maybe a trendsetter in the future. I can read first headlines like 'Schwarzenegger's motorbike'.

I like bikes outside the mainstream and I'm in love with this bike and hope every day my dealer will give me a call that my baby is here.

Bearly, btw, BRP Rotax was founded 1920 in Dresden / Germany, so this bike is nearly a German one

Greetings from Germany
