I realized something tonight. Over the past few weeks I have got in the habit of skipping over threads more and more. I used to log in and start reading beginning with the top thread and I don't do that anymore. If you want to know why (or don't), I will tell you. It is because of all the back and forth BS.

I don't know what has changed and I am not talking about any one person. Like many people, I enjoy a little back and forth and engage in some myself on occasion, but lately it seems to be happening a lot. So much that it has gotten to the point (in my opinion) that some threads are so tainted with it that the original subject is being lost.

As I said, I am not trying to single anyone out as it is many people. Arguments between users, users and custodians and some who just climb on to their soap box after a point has already been made just to pile on.

I know some get very emotional about their bikes, Buell and their personal beliefs. I am not pretending to be an innocent bystander and I am not trying to tell anyone what to say or how to run a site. I am just asking to please on occasion, be the bigger person, step up and stop the back and forth.

Hopefully I won't wake up tomorrow and think, I shouldn't have written that after a bad night and being tired.

Dentguy, are you talking about THIS thread in particular?

if so, geez dude, it's a pretty civil conversation we have going on, and is relevant to the thread.

i could PM my thoughts and opinions to the fellow i'm chatting with, but posting it out on the board may prove to be beneficial or enlightening for others, as well.

i don't have a problem with folks discussing differences of opinion as long as its done with courtesy and respect, as i've tried to do on that thread.

the point of your post is duly noted, but if it's directed at me, i don't feel i've been out of line in my comments over there.

best,

This is not supposed to be entertainment???? Oh sh!t I'm on the wrong site!!!!

There are a world of Riders that can help you through your issues with their "experience" and "knowledge".

It is up to each one of us, as an individual, to decide if we want to heed that information or hit the "del" key.

We all have that choice. We all need to understand that this is a reflection of our real lives and need to treat our on-line interactions as if they were face-to-face. That would be the reality check that we all use day-in-and-day-out.

Y'know these threads always seem to be popping up on ALL BBS's - regardless of WHAT the BBS is all about. Heck, if you really want to see how petty things can get - just look at comments on Youtube videos sometimes.

There have been quite a number of very respectful exchanges on Badweb involving very specific problems which were NOT "suppressed" or where the original poster ended up crying about being banned or similar heavy-handed treatment.

I only have to point to Interex2050 (Peter) - and his issues with his bike. He very calmly stated the facts, presented the evidence and a TON of folks offered up advice. He took it to a dealer (NOT the dealer he bought it from) for the work and when it couldn't be resolved, he got his money back (or will shortly). NOBODY was "victimized" by Badweb, by the MoCo or by the other posters on Badweb.

Many of us posted NON BUELL suggestions and recommendations for resolving his problems - and then posted recommendations for OTHER bikes based on experience. NOBODY got beaten over the heads by custodians or other Badwebbers.

Some people get it... some never will.

Nobody gets "banned" or "opressed" for posting alternate opinions, alternate religions, talking up alternate brands of non-Buell bikes - when it's done with courtesy/respect.

Discussing commercial products outside of sponsor channels is even OK - in the context of reviews or recommendations. Heck - I'm about to buy a rainsuit. If it works, I may post up my opinions. If I were thinking of getting into SELLING the rainsuit if it worked out for me - then I'd expect to be "spoken to" by the management about using Badweb to gage the responses by other riders. (and NO - I AM NOT going to be getting into selling rain gear!!!!)

(OK - on to coffee #2. We'll see if my opinions change when I'm more conscious. I should know better to post before 0600 and my second cuppa.)

I have noticed the tone of the 1125r board is different than the other boards I visit on BadWeb. I normally look at Quickboard, 1125r, BigBadandDirty and the XBoard. I have to say that the 1125r board is different from the others. I don't know why that is really. Lots of people buy Ulys or other XBs as their first Buell and a few of them end up unhappy with their bikes for a variety of reasons. Usually there are a few posts about their unhappiness. Often others post about how to fix or modify what they don't like. That satisfies them or doesn't, but the tone is normally helpful and open. The 1125r board works that way sometimes, but often it doesn't. Personally, it is getting old to me. But then I don't particularly like conflict. Others do, and I am sure they are having a blast.

Now, I need another coffee as well.

I think Rocket set the tone for the 1125R board.

I think that I have been a positive contributer to this to this board(at least most of the time) and try to be helpful.

Hey Dyna, I have 1 leftover part from my `99 fxdx that you may be interested in. It is the crane cams hi-4tc (carburated). If interested pm me. It is mint and was only used for 3k miles. Paid $310 and will be willing to sell super cheap. (oops I changed the subject)

Hey Dbird, I agree some what. I kinda got a cold shiver when I just read the "r" word in your post.

That's what happens when it's cold outside for months and we can't ride and there's nothin else to do but bitch and moan and argue about nothin until the weather get's nice again and we can all spend our free time doin what we like to do - RIDE.

Things here are better in the summer - worse in the winter.

Some things seem better to me now since the 1125 release.

Until the 1125 we had to constantly argue about whether air-cooling, pushrods, and two-valves per cylinder were superior to liquid cooling, OHV, and multi-valve heads.

Now the pro-Buell crowd does not feel the need to bash everything about modern engines configurations as much, and there is less of that controversy, which I think is refreshing.

The other arguments about problems vs. imagined problems, and the frequency of problems seem to have migrated from the XBoard to the 1125 Board. That's BadWeb.

You know, that is very true. I get really pissed about some aspects of my XB when I can't ride. When I ride it I absolutley love it. Summers is the season where we can all just get along.

the point of your post is duly noted, but if it's directed at me, i don't feel i've been out of line in my comments over there.

Jerry,
I wasn't talking about that thread in particular and it wasn't directed at you or any one person. Thanks.

Dynasport,
That is what I'm talking about.

Maybe it was just one of those nights and I should have gone to bed. It wasn't about trash talking or BS, I enjoy plenty of that. It was more about me having to go back to the top of a page to see what the thread was originally about too many times over the past few weeks. I would just like to see a thread kept a little more on subject as sometimes the back and forth just gets it so off track the original subject is lost. I'm sure I am guilty of it also, but I'm trying.

My intent for the thread was to hopefully get some to realize they are getting way off track and just start a new thread about whatever subject they have gotten into instead of taking over another thread. I know things get off subject, but I'm talking about way off. I just think if it starts to take over the original subject and isn't relative, step up and stop it. If you understand what I mean thats great, if you don't that's OK. Thanks.

Again, these are just some thoughts I was having and probably should have gone to bed. Now, someone please take my hand and help me down from my soap box.

Dentguy -

topic drift is a time-honored tradition here on BadWeB...

just kidding, but it does seem that way sometimes, especially if the original thread topic has run out of gas ("jumping the shark," to borrow a term from Hollywood producer Garry Marshall).

from a custodial standpoint i've never intervened in topic drift - it'd sure keep our custodial crew busy to do so - but you've raised some valid points, and maybe your comments will help in this regard.

thx for taking the time. :-)

best,

Jerry_haughton,

I hope my comments were not taken to suggest any kind of custodian intervention. It definitely wasn't meant that way. I was just looking for a little courtesy from some people.

Thanks for the response and understanding. Tonight my plan is to have a beer, go to bed early and keep my thoughts to myself.
