Cool! Destoop and Almaric are on 1125Rs this year. This ought to be interesting. I'm hoping Peter sees this thread and chimes in with the details. It must have been a fantastic finish to watch. If I read the results correctly, the Duc beat the Buell by 3/10th of a second. They'll get them next race!  | ||

Holy smokes, the Buells are running well with the $40K 1098R...I think that is a VERY pleasant surprise to even the most optimistic Buell supporter. And Asjborn, isn't that margin of victory for the Duc, 3 HUNDREDTHS of a second, which is a bike length at 150 MPH. | ||

The "Hyper"s are Ducati Hypermotards, running a separate race within a race. The Milona is a custom NCR-built two-valve, air-cooled Ducati, which, through the use of much titanium and carbon-fiber, is claimed to have a dry weight of 260 pounds. The 1098Rs were entered by the French Ducati importer; Mounier is a former French Superbike champion. The 1125Rs were running the stock exhaust system and belt drive. | ||

One other piece of information: The 1125Rs that got 2nd and 4th at Hockenheim in front of the RC8s weren't new bikes; they were provided by HD Europe to the respective dealers who raced them. Where did they come from? The same press fleet that the British and other European press rode at the beginning of March. The bikes, with about 7 previous track days being flogged by journalists and dealers on their clocks, arrived at the Bonn and Hannover dealerships 3 days before the race. | ||

You could say I'm connected  so some of it came in my e-mail, but much of this is from googling the French website for TopTwins racing (that name has replaced Pro Twins this year) and then using google to translate the results. Qualifying was wet. The race itself was cool and a few damp spots here and there. Buell (Destoop) qualified 5th within fractions of a sec of first. | ||

Is that like a wet dream? With the Buell's performance, almost. Obviously, a wet race would put a damper on the 1098R horsepower advantage and even out the field. | ||

That is the best picture of a 1125R yet! Look how the line from the fairing flows into the scoop. They even look connected. The contrasting plastic from scoop to black trim reduce the size substantially. Great Photo! | ||

Actually, the 1098R might be at a percieved advantage in the wet with it's adjustable traction control system... All the more kudos to the Buell racers... | ||

Very interesting point, Bigblock. I still just can't get over it. After Hockenheim, I was excited, but my rational side just kept telling me that it may have been a fluke - some combination of conditions of track, riders, etc., might have given the Buells an advantage. But now these results just confirm there's something there. . . against 1098R's! I've been in love with the 1098R since it was unveiled. I had been hoping Buell might make their own version - 1125RR, but even then, I'd be realistic enough to realize the 1098R would still likely be a better race bike, but I thought the 1125RR might get close . . . These results are just beyond belief to me at the moment. I've been looking forward to seeing Steve Crevier in Canadian Superbike. Now I really can't wait. | ||

hey mike, an 88ci uly sounds like a lot of fun but i think i would have made the choice if i were you. i'm trying to stay competitive with the 1098's and the ncr. they are unbelievable on the straights, but i've got them covered in the corners. on our short tracks here i can keep pace with them but the gap seesaws between us and i just don't have enough to stay close enough on the straights. its pretty frustrating.-andrew | ||

Babyhuey I do not understand which choice the 88 C I uly or the 1125R? I gave the ulysses to my son and will be looking for a 08 motor down the road, the 08 motors are so much better and can handle more power so I figured it would cost me close to twenty grand or more to do what I wanted, I will some day do this to the new xb 12 motor, I will put the 06 motor in a custom frame and then when I find a 08 motor that I can afford I will buy the kit and hopefully there will be a six speed trany for the motor by then. I could see allot of money going to do this to a brand new bike so I will wait till my son gets tired of it and then buy it back from him, right now the 1125R is perfect for me if I can get the electrical system to put out some electrical power. Been a while since I've checked in. Hi everyone ! Nobody bothered to ask me if I was interested in helping to run Buell's in the French championship again this year, so I went with the Ducati crowd who wanted me. The 1125's of Bruno and Michel are totally stock, and lose out down the straights, but not that much. I'm just back from Nogaro, bright sunshine, beautiful weather, fast back straight, and the Buells finished 4th and 5th in both races, Bruno ahead of Michel. The podiums were 1098R's and a very fast young rider on a 999R, but both Buell's were in the thick of it until the straights gave the advantage to the more powerful Ducati's mid race. Still, once the race exhausts and chain conversion kits arrive, as well as more track orientated suspension, I think it will be a good scrap. There are 6 riders with a couple of outsiders who are in line for the title, so it will be a good season. Oh, as for reliability, so far not a single problem, and only praise for the machine. It looks great in race-trim, too. Just VERY quiet... |
