I read that for one of the recent races the 1124r was in; they had to reduce the horsepower of the bike. Does anyone know how that was done? Restrictor plate? Fuel remapping? I have a specific reason for asking that may impact my finagling one into my garage. | ||

I believe I read somewhere they used some sort of throttle stop or throttle block. Seems it was in one of the pre race articles. Don't know if I'm remembering it correctly or not,,, just seems I've read it somewhere. Sorry that wasn't any help at all. JJ | ||

Well, that's one more option. I was thinking of putting a temporary restrictor plate over the throttle body (maybe 55mm choke), but I can see where that may cause a mixture problem if the linkage is tied to the FI system. A throttle stop makes more sense. I sure hope the manuals become available soon. DS | ||

Yes, it was a throttle stop. That was on the 1125 that raced in the Moto-ST at Daytona. | ||

Cool, such an addition will make my other half a little more accepting of my purchase. She considers me a beginner rider, and she's been told that the 1125 may be too much bike for me. (I'm laughing my donkey off). But if a throttle stop can reduce the HP than rest of the bike's technology will sell itself. Dave | ||

Bah you don't need anything to hold you back other than good judgment. I haven't ridden for 30 years and walked in and bought my 1125R. I was scared for a few days. I ride it every day to work and love it. Now have 3500 mile on the bike smile every time it starts. But don't think that limiting yourself to a certain rpm will keep you out of trouble it wont. I find this is a very safe motorcycle. It stops and handles as well as it accelerates. Good luck and happy ridding | ||

I agree, I just need to show the other half that power can be reduced to make it 'safer' in her mind. She's afraid that with all the potential energy at hand, that I'll get into trouble, and I can appreciate that. (there's a reason she's my other half). But one thing I'm not going to do is buy a bike that I'll have to keep making payments on, long after I've outgrown it. I haven't owned a bike in some fifteen years, but last year's day at the superbike school rekindled the bug. I've been looking at bikes for a few years, and the rotax engine in the buell is what I've been waiting for. All of the engineering philosophy that went into this bike makes it just that much safer. I want a sport bike for the interaction I get from it. I like to feel the road, I mean if I run over a cigarette on the freeway, I want to know if it's filtered or non-filtered! As for the throttle stop, nothing says it can't accidentally fall out.  Dave | ||

People who fear the machine without regard to the OPERATION of the machine are kind of hard to convince. I think setting up a throttle stop wouldn't be that hard (but I don't have an 1125R to go look at) - do you think maybe she is probably going to want to know that you CAN'T mess with the throttle stop?? | ||

I was just reading what I know to be true and was about down shifting to be in the right gear at the right speed and sometimes it take acceleration to get out of trouble just as using brakes can get you out of trouble, email me if you want me to find the article on this, it was on a racing school site, just like brakes can save your ass, so can acceleration. Slaughter: Hmmm.... Well, since I'm not supposed to go over 6k RPM during the break in period... And I have to go easy during the first 600 miles (ya right)... And I'm going to be talking her ear off till November.... No honey, I don't need a throttle stop till after the break in period. I think the 'notion' of a throttle stop will ease her mind. Right now the whole idea of being able to temporarily reduce the bike's HP, is to get past the absolute "NO" on the 1125, which it has. As for actually employing one, I don't have a problem with that. I'm confidant that I'll never need one (and she'll see that I don't need one). Like the quote above says, 'the throttle goes both ways', and I've long since left my squid days behind me. Now I start talking about the technology, and when she see's the light, the bike is MINE! Muhaa-ha-ha! Additional riding courses (MSF & Keith Code School etc) will also be money in the bank as far as not having to buy another 'starter bike' My evil plan continues... If someone has an antidote for this insanity; please keep it to yourself!  Mike: You know that, and I know that, but her emotions don't know that. On more than one occasion I've avoided a multicar pile up by being able to punch out of it. The worst was when a junker car in front of me lost it's tranny, the rear end locked up and it was all over the place. I had to punch it to avoid being a part of a Car-B-Que sandwich. Just give her a big spiel on how you cant believe she would think you are too incompetent to own any kind of bike you want, and it hurts your feelins knowing that she doesnt believe in you. That should work | ||

One good thing about the 1125r is the exhaust. It is nice and quiet so you don't have to go as far to be out of ear shot before you nail it  | ||
