The Scorpion exo 1000 is the helmet I want to buy but now I am afraid of buying a expensive helmet only to have that cause head shake to, it is snell approved and has the flip down inner visor, but I need a helmet for the track.

I would like to know if tracks except a helmet with the ece R 22-05 ratings.

1) Check the track day orgainization website, it will tell you. Generally, the British and EU standards are fine.

2) Scorpion has not been around too many years, never tried one. Make sure you ask a few people that have them.

You cannot go wrong with Shoei or Arai, but they are expensive.

I just bought an AGV on closout that is great for $145 shipped.

I look for non-Snell helmets with the British and DOT certifications. look at the Motorcyclist article on line as to the faults in Snell testing and the increased G-Forces on the brain due to too hard lining.

Ideal would be a Shoei or Arai with no snell from a european source. I still love both brands, even if Snell certified. I just feel a bit safer without the Snell rating.

I bought the AGV this time because they make good products and are British certified, not Snell, and at a good price.

I agree Zack and did not like the looks of Bratmans way.

I got to have looks. safty, and function and so far everything I have done has done these.

the saddlebags and tail bag looks really good.

the shift light volt meter looks really good and got it in a perfect place and angle for viewing.

I also mounted the gps, coin and bill pouch, visor cleaner system that has a fluid box that has a sponge attached to the top that snaps on the box and has a wiper all mounted nice on the top clamp.

I got it at www.aerostich.com I do not remember where I got the coin and bill pouch, but is really handy for tolls, it has a pouch for coins and the closing flap has places for rolled up bills, and the gps is mounted right in the center of the top clamp.
I have been taking pictures and still got more to take and will hopefully be able to post them for every one can see.

I am very pleased with all my alterations to the bike, and all have function and looks.

I am getting close to having the perfect sport tourer/track bike.

Mike,

It may be that your coat/jacket is the culprit creating the buffeting condition. Try rearranging the collar and/or wearing a different coat. Also try one of the Quiet Rider inserts in your favorite helmet or a scarf/neck gator. I've experienced helmet buffeting similar to what you describe and found it was my jacket that was causing it.

If you are seeing the same buffeting for multiple different helmets, chances are it isn't the helmets that are causing it.

It could also be coming from the windshield. At the speeds you are talking, that is not unlikely. It's why tucking behind the screen is typical practice at such extreme speeds. : )

I rode a friend's Harley once that had an aftermarket windshield; it was unridable above 70 mph due to the extreme buffeting it subjected upon my helmet/head. It was unbelievable. I'd never experienced anything that severe before. It was just a plane old-fashioned spider mounted plexiglass windshield. Luckily it was one of the quick-detach kind and was easily removed. Problem solved.

Great to hear that you are enjoying and remain enthused about your 1125R.

Sparton I have contacted the drag strip and got no were, I think race school and track days will accept my helmet but if it is shaking at speed I can not use it, that leaves me with one more experiment with my leather jacket.

The scorpion is the best full face helmet that I would use for street riding, it is not a modular and is snell approved, has an air pump to fit the cheek pads to your face and has a flip down sun visor.

I love the flip down visor and has the lever on the side like my Shuberth helmet that was a modular helmet.

with the lever on the side it is so easy to do, the zox I have is a slide and not easy to do.

So I have too much time on my hands sometimes. I get out of this hell hole in may and I get my new bike in may. I've been researching new gear alot(can't wear my old gear on a brand new bike). My new Helmet of choice is Akuma.

http://www.akumahelmets.com

For you Vets and active Military they have some very cool military themed helmets(one of their chief designers/engineers was a navy pilot).

for the rest of you they have some very hot innovations. Photochomantic(darkens in sun, clear at night) and electocromantic(darkens at the push of a button) visors. integrated led map light in the front and red warning lights in the back.

http://www.webbikeworld.com/r4/photochromic-motorc ycle-visor/

http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-accessories /2008/electrochromatic-visor.htm

Also the are introducing Bluetooth and comm gear integration in their helmet line this year.

2 of their helmets have been reviewed at webbikeworld.com

http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motorcycle-helmet/a kuma-stealth/

http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motorcycle-helmet/a kuma-helmet/

And my favorite thing is the company is based out of San Antonio Texas.

I don't know about head shake, but they do sponsor a few drag bike racers...I think at 200+ MPH, the last thing a drag racer wants is head shake.

My humble opinion after lots and lots of research.

That electro-chromic visor is the shitz.
Now I wish I hadn't spent 260 on that new Nolan I just got.

Next year maybe...

Rusty did they come out with that visor all ready?

I have the Akuma stealth and love the looks and want to paint me bike to match it.

I did hear about the visor that darkens with a push of the button, but thought it would be a while before it came out.

I find it shakes when riding fast but as Blake has said it might be my jacket.

I got to go on a test run with my leather jacket and see how the Akuma will still shake.

I also love the front and rear lights on the helmet and cant wait for the visor that darkens at a push of a button.

I got to make a call to the race school to see if they will accept this helmet with its ece R 22-05 rating.

Hyway ranger Yes I seen it in the store I bought a used blast from back in November.

You can get it on the web allot cheaper.

I have heard lots of good things about the scorpion helmets and do know I have seen it for 300.00.

I will look and see if I can find it cheaper and let you know.

Thanks Mike, I am going to try to find it in a store just to try it on for size. then it's time to look on the web for the best price. I also found a dealer for the Akuma helmets, I want to try one of those bad boys too. Looks like I have an excuse to ride my baby around today

The Scorpion EXO 1000 is in stores, but in limited quantities, sizes, and colors. I ordered mine after being involved in an accident ... This was approx 3-4 months ago(The order, not the accident). Still no show, the dealership has contacted the factory twice, first they said they would begin shipping the beginning of February, and now they are saying March 10th. So, I just tell my self to hurry up and wait...

I will say that the Helmet has some nice features and looks to be well made, and best of all, the insurance company is fitting the bill.

Web bike world rated this helmet and was not impressed with what they had to say so go there to see the write up.

it comes with D rings which I do not like but for 8.00 you can get a clip mount for the strap.

Also the visor is not that dark so see if you see if you can find inner shields that are darker.

best price 300.00.

My zox is modular and has many different inner shields like dark smoke.

also cost 160.00 with shipping and will be my touring helmet until both my son and I get the Akuma stealth helmets.

But for shopping or around town riding I like a modular helmet and the Zox is a good comfortable helmet with the flip down visor.

But if I am going out riding with the guys then I want something better for my head and a modular is not as good as a full face helmet.
