Yep, another balmy day in Iowa with wind chills in the -30 to -40 degree range. We're also experiencing record snow falls this winter along with record cold! All I can do is look at the new bike! Will spring ever get here!!!!! Thanks, I feel better, now... | ||

Winter is good. It gives some relief from the heat. If we're lucky enough to get a few good frosts, then that's good for the dogs - kills the fleas...  Jack | ||

WOW that is almost the coldest I rode in when I was a young, got down to -5 to -10 and when I got to work I had to run my hands under cold water, also felt my left eye starting to get slow one morning, I think it was freezing, I was warm because I had a yamaha xt 500 and kick starting a bike like that at that temp is not easy to do and by the time I got it running I was out of breath and sweating, only missed one day of work that year do to riding in the snow in the woods and was awesome to ride in virgin snow in the woods with all the snow on the trees, anyway the bike would not start the next day and had to bring it down the basement to thaw out. I think next winter I am putting snow tires on my blast and metal studs that aerostich sells. I think I will take the 1125 off the road next winter and do a paint job on it. Mike | ||

was in the twenties today and rode my sons blast and was warm or almost hot and taking a long ride tomorrow and will be colder, you guys need heated gear but I do not know yet if the 1125R can handle it but know big deal I just use the Blast and if I hit black ice and wipe then no big deal. The weather is on and talking about 30 below see if you can start the bike and see if it will even start. Mike | ||

i would love to go ride. the cold isnt what bothers me. i have my heated jacket liner hooked up on the 12. my problem is the huge amount of salt on the roads. my blazer is already half rotted away and im not about to ride the new bike in it! then there is the whole problem with the solid ice all over. i wouldnt even call it ice its more like driving on a mirror with baby oil on it! | ||

WOW I did not think of that and I am the same way will not ride it unless the roads are clear, did hit some ice today and I knew it was there and had to go that way because I was in a hurry so I pulled the clutch in and I was on my sons blast, getting my bike back tomorrow so I will take it for a ride then it is going to snow so do not know when I will get a chance to go for a ride next, next winter I will more prepared Aerostich sells metal studs for street tires and dirt tires I think six sizes to chose from and I will put snow tires on the blast and put the studs in the tires and will be all set for any weather next winter. No I was talking about the Buell Blast for winter riding, I was told by the tech guys that the 1125R will not put out enough voltage to run heated gear and are working on it but I would not ride it in the snow or salt. I do not have a car so the Buell Blast is my spare tire, my son is learning how to ride and when he gets good he is getting my Ulysses for lending my the money to buy the 1125R, I was checking out tires and there are ones that will fit the Blast and are like 90% dirt so that would be perfect for winter riding with studs, and I will be able to go out and play in the snow with it. Look the weather for Northern Virginia. When it gets over 50, I'll be working. When I'm working I'm traveling out of the state. When it gets really cold or it's snowing, (as in right now) I'll have the day off.  I've put on about 1000 miles this winter, so I can't complain too bad. (but I just did, sorry) | ||

well all i need out of the 1125 is enough juice to run a jacket liner in the spring and fall. i rode the 12 till it was almost 0 everyday using my jacket liner. i rode through the first 2 snow and ice storms then decided to call it quits. had some heated gloves. they sucked so i brought them back, and the pants would be to much of a pain to use for my ride to and from work | ||

I did to have bad gloves from first gear and would burn my outer fingers and if you tugged on the liner it would come out and was almost impossible to put back in, I think Gerbings glove liners would be best and cheaper to. Mike | ||

When I posted this thread, this morning, I was in Iowa, now, this evening, I'm in Salt Lake City and enjoying 40 degree temps. If my bike were here I'd be riding! There's no snow or ice! No Rice is right, even the four lane highway I took to the airport this afternoon in Cedar Rapids was completely ice covered and was actually frightning to drive on!! Most of the side streets back home are covered with at least 2" of ice, too, so even when it warms up it's going to be a sloppy mess around here for awhile. | ||

30 % chance of snow today, but it's supposed to be above freezing, so the streets should "just be wet". Still deciding whether to ride or not. Passed the 2000 mile mark yesterday. Heated grips work. It was +14-16˚ on the way in one day last week. Z | ||

Zack and anyone else running heated grips or gear. I was told that Buell said that the bike can not handle heated grips or high beams on is slow traffic, but the plug is made to shut the grips off if the battery gets low, that tell me right there that we have weak charging system, why would they have the plug that shuts off its power if they did not know it has a weak charging system and would wear down the battery, they are suppose to be working on a kit or a replacement for more power, I am told. Yes this winter thing is getting ridiculous in an effort to speed things up though I have been driving my gas guzzling SUV like crazy and eating lots of things with whipped cream and cheese in a can hopping that the aerosol will help things along. Though at this rate if winter doesn't end soon the cheese may seriously test just how big of a quiet zone this bike has. | ||

That doesn't pose too big of a problem for me. I've spent a lot of time and dollars getting good passive gear. The grip kit is a lifesaver but it's the only powered accessory other than a cigar lighter on my Shovelhead I've ever considered. For example, I just picked up a great pair of boots last week - Chippewa Black Rally 12". They are comfortable and warm and fit inside my jeans or outside my Squid Suit. as i said i will ride through snow and ice, but i do have 3 vehicals sitting at my house. a truck, car and 4x4 blazer. they need some loving too, lol. on that note... i may be hardcore and i sure am nutz, but i am not stupid and there is a difference. riding on a couple inches of ice without spikes and such when you have other means of travel is just that. stupid. well so once in awhile its fun, just not in heavy traffic, lol (Message edited by no_rice on February 21, 2008) | ||

Just call me a wuss. One time running across a little frosted up bridge and having the back wheel spin up convinced me!!!! Thought process: 30 deg and clear nice AM, No one out this early on the 2 lane, what the heck, speedo skyrockets from 70-120, back wheel shimmys a little, speedo drops to 70, back wheel solid. Pucker factor 120%. A little frost goes a LONG way. If it's below freezing and wet I take the cage. Frost at 5:30, I take the cage. Live to ride another day. Neil S. | ||

Hey guys got my bike back and it was the fuel pump and I put in a new battery and went riding with my heated jacket liner and gloves but had to switch the gloves off, anyway I rode around town and got home and used a volt meter to test the battery and was 12.3 volts and I did notice a difference in heat so I guess I had a bad battery, they put some scratches in my bike which I am not happy about but thats what happens when a bike is left there for so long. My thermomater says 28 degrees but does not feel like it, must be the fairing, got my backs mounted license plate and directionals and it looks good will post pictures soon. I had the gloves off most of the ride so I was using 90 watts, next winter I will have the blast all set up for winter riding and will get dirt street tires and put aerostich tire studs in for ice, and it heats all my heated gear so I will just ride the 1125 when the streets are nice and clean and not real cold like today.
