Yeah, I noticed that the owner's manual states the fuel capacity is 5.3 gallons. I was wondering why it dropped from 5.6 gallons...anyone know why?

The fuel capacity is 5.3 Gallons. The specs state 5.6, but last minute design changes altered that. As for top speed. I've not tried for it yet. I can't afford that kinda ticket and jail time

The affirmation that the capacity is 5.3 Gallons is from an Annony.

As for top speed? I think it will be a while before an official number will be published, if ever. Magazines will likely publish something with the appropriate caveats once they get their hands on a bike

The speedo on my bike reads 81mph at 5000 rpm in sixth gear. This is confirmed by my GPS. Yes, speedo error is negligible - within 1mph up to 121, which happens at 7500 rpm. By projection, then, my bike would net 162 mph at 10,000 rpm, and be nudging 170 at 10,500 - assuming it could pull that in sixth.

Also, 5.3 gallons seems right on mine. 4.4 gallons required at low fuel light...add 0.8 for reserve...5.2 gallons give or take a splash.

the second tab at the top is for the 1125R, calculated top speed (negating wind resistance) is ~172 MPH. assuming you can reach 10500 RPM in 6th gear.

A guy i work with has a 2005 honda shadow sabre. His bike was roughly the same speed/acceleration as my 2006 xb9. He swears up and down that there is no harley/buell on the planet that can beat him. After i picked myself up from the floor laughing i challenged him to a race. He wont race for cash but he will race to prove his cruiser is faster. When it warms up we will race as he is a seasonal rider and its not 70+ degrees out. Ill have someone video his demise and ill have the top speed data your looking for because im not holding back.

Just had the usual argument with someone at the SF Rod & Custom show--he swore his RC-51 would do 189MPH with 135 HP. I was tired and could not contain myself as I replied," not if you dropped it from a plane!" Twas a great battle, but logic and science was not enough to sway him---

FJ..
Some folks just need to believe certain things.. And no amount of logic, science or truth will displace that belief.

Case in point. At the IMS in DC last weekend, I was at the Yamaha display and was looking at two very similarly painted bikes. Another guy came over and said he was getting this version of the R1 since it was capable of over 200mph. I tried to explain that the two bikes were different, one was an R1 .. the other was the number 46 Fiat/Yamaha M1. But apparently, I was wrong, the 'other R1' was a European test bike and was set up for Europe. Hence the slight differences in appearance. The sales guy had told him so. And since it even says 'Doctor' (which is actually a 'code' for testing bike) on the fairing and 46 is just an identifier for the test riders. So there was no way some unknown guy named Rossi could be racing it. I pointed to the information board next to the bike.. and walked away... He yelled something but I just kept walking.. Over to the Buell display.

My personal motto is: "flexible since 2000 and bullshit free since 2003"

My wife tells me it is not working. It is amazing how we humans are once we get an idea in our head. I can only speak for myself and the 1125R. I am so infatuated with this bike that some critical sense has been compromised.

But then again,I don't care. I'm have loads of fun with it. After the honeymoon with the bike, I'll have to remind myself of my motto.. if the honeymoon ever ends. Idunno

BTW has anyone experimented or experienced how far you can go once the low fuel light is counting? Why couldn't they do it like the car manuf. and give you a countDown til empty?

Fuel light comes on with .8-1.0 gallons left.
Average mpg on mine shows 33mpg.
Do the math; hope for 30, count on 20+.
I went 25 miles last fill-up after the light came on, and put in 4.9 gallons.

once the low fuel light comes on the odo starts counting until the key is turned off or the low light goes out. mine will trigger the light on the sidestand and then go out while riding. it will subsequently trigger again and so far i have ridden 25 miles with the light triggered before fueling. this was local and i know where the stations are. you can also back your pace down to extend mileage once the light comes on. my average is only 28mpg with 1800 miles so far. (i guess i'm trolling for tickets)
