I was picking up some more oil today at the dealership and a gentleman from the service area walked up and mentioned that there will be a replacement muffler coming in...
Is this accurate?
If so why is the muffler being replaced, does this have to do with regulations or is there something actually wrong with the muffler?

Regulations. A handful of California bikes went out with 49 state mufflers rather than the correct ones with catalytic converters. The bike will run better with the correct muffler, as it is calibrated slightly differently for the catalyst.

Thank you for clearing that up.
I guess I will be checking with my dealer once "the smoke clears" in early/mid January.

Happened to us at our dealer. The customer just has to bring the bike in when we get the correct muffler for us to change it out.

I got mine changed during the first service.
The bike does run a little better, although it ran great to begin with...

Had a guy go out of his way and follow me into a gas station the other day to get an up close look and ask me some questions.

Peter, it's nice to hear that we are appreciated. I've swapped the mufflers on three of the four bikes we've sold. Thanks again for the good words.

I am having my muffler swapped for the catalytic converter California model even though I was hoping to mod my current one without the cat but was wondering if anyone who has done the swap noticed any difference in tone or performance. I was told there is no difference in the bikes mapping just one has a cat and the other does not. Any info? Thanks

Eric,
There really is no difference in tone... although I do wear ear plugs at all times.
As for performance there may have been a slight increase in "peppyness", although that could have just been all in my head.
According to the anonymous above there is a slight difference in tuning.
Best,
Peter

thanks for the response I was just concerned with the exhaust flowing as it was probably designed to do without the added restriction of a cat

Anonymous can you answer these questions? is buell coming out with a high performance exhaust to go with the ecm? I have heard you need a race license for to get one, also what does this ecm do to the bike, like how much HP does it add? and does it raise the red line of the bike? I am going to race school to get my license and not racing but doing track days and just want all the info that I can get on this bike, so if you can please tell me what you know is in the works for the 1125R, Thanks. Mike

As posted in another thread, the race tuner ECM does not have a set program in it, you map it yourself. HP gains depend on how good your programmer is and what sort of other modifications you have made to the hardware (exhaust, headwork, etc).

Think of it as a jet kit. You have everything you need in the box...but it's up to you to match up the right components for your setup or it's not going to work.

AFAIK it is a contingency only part at this time - you need to be registered with Buell as a team in order to get one.

Thanks Ratbuell that sounds like some other system I have seen for the xb bikes. Mike
