I got pretty snippy there but I also get weary of pettiness... kinda why I could never tolerate running a BBS.

Rocket - I am NOT particularly a Buell fan. I just don't come on the board with the intention of bashing Buell owners because of my "enlightened" perspective.

Rocket, don't assume so much about my Buell "fan" status. I also race a Suzuki (yes) and own two Hondas (Vintage, one a racer still) but I don't go onto the SV boards and try to set people straight about the issues that the carbureted SV has, its piss-poor handling and suspension (stock) or its frame fragility - well known and not needing to be beaten to death. I also don't go onto the Honda boards and beat up on the unenlightened about THEIR issues. Both those communities have their fair share of highly predictable people doing JUST that. I go there to try to share and learn.

I'll have calmed down by the time this has been posted/read and would like to apologize for bringing the thread down a notch - my first ever intentionally post on Badweb in almost 5 years.

Steve, I was attempting to appease you regarding your Buell status, rather than call you a Buell hat wearer.

That I come on the BadWeB and bash Buell is because I believe Buell evokes a motorcycling passion. That Buell haven't fired up my passion in a long time, doesn't mean I want a divorce. Consider my position as similar to a marriage without sex. Now if I were in a similar situation as an SV owner, or just about any other brand of motorcycle come to it, I'd have been divorced years ago. I would never have considered marriage guidance, like I have with BadWeB, for any other brand either. In short, it's hard to let go of a class act. But one still needs to confide in close friends about such matters. Perhaps in the hope that one day things will be great again.

I got bitchy over on the BORG too.

The SV site is offline now for a few weeks.

If one's posts to a motorcycle discussion board piss-off Steve Slaughter to the point of evoking a harsh reaction from him, then it's long past time to cease excuse-making and to commence some serious personal introspection.

Awwwwww,C'mon Blake. At least i've the humility to admit when i've done wrong. The occasional miserableness ain't so bad.

I'll NEVER tire of the amazement of my BuellS'. Poor XB headlights aside, they're great machines'

As a machinist i'm always confounded by quality people who ALWAYS find area's where my product can be improved. But i can't always appease their desire's due to time constraints. And that's where i always detect where BMC can improve their product."Zero defects" is the goal right?

I refuse to write blank checks for BMC to churn out defective product.

Compare your propaganda with previous years. An idiot could tell you there's a pattern. It's usually associated with the northern hemisphere being gripped by ice and snow. We tend to call it winter. We are not all as fortunate as you to have the sun shine out of our arse to keep out the chill.

I've wrote not very much to day, but that's the best thing I've wrote all day

Care to share how that relates to Ducati stock?
War and Crude I mean, even if it were true that US is "screwing" with the crude oil price. I thought it was a supply and demand thing.

Well, I thought at first I was looking at a Ducati financial performance chart. The British don't have the ADR thing going on. My mistake. But then it's pretty obvious, the dollar's worth squat these days. America can't afford to punch her way out of a paper bag. Crude's gone through the roof. Maybe the Yanks are so skint they can't afford stocks in an Italian motorcycle company.

Whatever the reason is, I'm certain the future is brighter for Ducati than it is for Buell, in every aspect.

I believe there is room for a bright future for both companies. I think the future for Buell is bleak regarding an unit finding it's way to your garage. But you know what. You might surprise yourself when and if you test ride one.
I do believe the 848 is priced too high and might be a slow seller. I was discussing this with the local Ducati dealer just this past Saturday. He was kind of discouraged that the price was $12,995. The 1098 is obviously a hit.

"But then it's pretty obvious, the dollar's worth squat these days."

Then why is the British ale and cheddar I buy still the same price as it was last year? Now's a much better time for you to visit though. Come on over and enjoy our prosperity. No need for you to be so hostile and envious of our largess.

Which modern aircraft carrier group have we mothballed? Ooops, we just launched a couple new ones. Maybe it's the stealth aircraft fleet that got hit with cutbacks? Oops, no, there're more of those on order too. Did we cut back on the number of fighting troops? Gee no, we're increasing those too.

Don't come here and disrespect my country. I'll pop you in the nose.

We're as wealthy as ever thanks, and our economy does just fine amidst high oil prices; it's growing quite admirably you know. Unemplyment is low, and tax revenues are way up though tax rates are down. It's a great time to be an American living in America.

Who'd want to by stock in such a shaky venture as Ducati? Nice bikes, I dig 'em big time, but as an investment prospect? No thank you.

Bologna, July 10th, 2007 - As per Consob’s request and in the light of the recent increase of
Ducati’s stock and the news reported by the press, the From Ducati . . . Company affirms that no contact is
being made with any third party regarding a potential M&A strategic agreement.
Furthermore, Ducati confirms that it is currently focused on the review of strategic and
operative plans for a further relaunch of its operations which will be presented to the market
by the end of the year.

They just held, December 13, a Special Stockholders meeting. Interesting to note that all reference and the press release about laying off the 100 workers when dealer refused to accept more product has disappeared from the firms website.

Buell has been in business with HD for 15 years and designs and produces motorcycles and MAKES A PROFIT.

Ducati is still struggling to get the company on firm ground.

Interests me . . . .

LOL! Thanks Rocket, I understand now. George Bush is not only causing global warming on mars (which is almost perfectly tracking the changes on earth), but is causing an otherwise perfectly and responsibly run Italian motorcycle company (Ducati) to loose share price.

It's all so clear now : ) Certainly global warming on earth and mars has nothing to do with the sun, and Ducati's stock price has nothing to do with "Italian Passion" when it comes to financials and management.

Sorry but please enlighten me. Are we talking about Ducati's stock, or Ducati's stock invested in by Americans? I don't understand this ADR thing. Sounds to me like it's an exclusive club only available to US investors. If so, what does ADR have to do with Ducati stock outside of US trading? Does the ADR graph posted represent Ducati's stock performance globally? Please enlighten me before I dump my Ducati shares.

SHOCK HORROR

US debt held by the public $5,502,269,442,237

United States — Population: 301,139,947 (July 2007 est.)

That's $18 271.4698 worth of personal debt per person. Not the same as what you quoted for us Brit's.

Last time I looked, Ducati were making profit. Why you're always trying to suggest Ducati could face extinction is beyond me. What's your point? Buell make better motorcycles because HD owns them? Buell doesn't race at world level because HD owns them? Buell are a small company because HD own them?

Amazing the shit you can read on the Internet.

Last I heard the LARGEST holders of US debt were the British and Japanese banks. 25 years ago the LARGEST Private holders of US debt were the Brits.

Get a listing of banks allowed to operate in the US.

Just doing the math and dividing total debt by the population GROSSLY oversimplifies the circumstances. Divide it further by the British, Japanese, Chinese and other foreign banks and you get closer to the reality.

Sumitomo bank alone has a gazillion in loans to individuals and companies here. (yeah, that number is as accurate as any other read on the 'net)

Anybody remember the Indonesians and the BCCI scandals? I was surprised back just that short time ago at how few people knew about the HUGE foreign investment in our economy.

I dumped my Ducati stock last year. The loss was helpful to offset a gain I had.

I had given up on Ducati as an investment long before that but it was fun to own the stock.

It sure looks like they are currently profitable on a day to day basis BUT they are millions and millions in debt.

Comparing Buell to Ducati is really pointless as the two have nothing but the passion of the employees and owners in common. Ducati has been in business a whole lot longer and sells a lot more bikes in a year. Erik has been busted or near busted twice while I have lost track of the number of time Ducati has been to the brink.

The companies operate under different sets of rules, if Erik had pulled some of the financial shenanigans that are common (and some are even legal) in Italy he would likely be in federal prison.

They have however made bikes that would be compared to each other and the Buell have not done too badly in that regard. I would take an S1 White Lightning over any Monster ever. The whole XB series is unique and work very well; they appeal to me more than the Ducati's because they are more practical and more street oriented; I don't want a race bike for the street these days.

Now they make a bike that really will be compared head to head with the Ducati 1098. I for one will wait until the top mags ACTUALLY COMPARE THEM before I announce that the Ducati is shit. Not that others on this board seem to have any need for facts before they announce that the Buell is shit.

off topic

I just want to see one post from anony regarding defective headlights on the `bolts. just one post. there is a legion of `bolt owners, myself included, that is really pissed off about this. and, no offense to proud papas, but BMC is willing to bend over backward to accommodate the hand full of 1125 owners? I could be speaking our of my ass on this, most likely i am, but i would think xb owners account for a large majority of sales/profits. When 1125 owners have a problem, Anony miraculously pops in to lay it out. Xb headlight issue Resurfaces and I hear crickets.
