Because it looks absolutely gorgeous and like nothing else, and because I can't wait to seriously terrorize every import rider I can possibly find! Mine's way down on the list at my dealer, but at least they are shipping. I can wait; the Ducatis and Hondas will be all the riper for picking!!!

"I can't wait to seriously terrorize every import rider I can possibly find!"

I`m with you on that.

If you start hearing stories about some crazy fat guy on a 1125r running around the St. Louis area, (that would be me)

Josh - all depends on HOW it's ridden

I raced an SV650 for a while. It barely got 17MPG when raced and the motor was nearly stock. I never measured mileage on my XB racebike. That same SV when babied on the street could get as much as 50MPG - (same as my S3 by the way). One day my S3 got danged near 60 on a cool day, level ground and a long run on straight roads. I admit that I was TRYING to max my mileage just to see how far it COULD go.

I don't think the test riders were babying it on the street all that much. (not the two I talked to)

MCNews talks about getting stuck in traffic and going slow on mountain road and getting 30MPG...

I'll let you know as soon as I get mine. Would be nice if Buell updated the spec sheet for it tho
MPG (EPA urban/highway test) (7):
Urban TBD -
Highway TBD -

7 Based on tests conducted under lab conditions per U.S. E.P.A. test procedures. Mileage will vary depending on personal riding habits, weather conditions, trip length and vehicle condition.

OK - Since the starting thread was archived, I figure it was time to recap... Who is buying one and why... This what all of you are saying... (Somewhat edited and there is some repetition)

Keep 'em coming... Maybe we can actually figure out the TOP TEN but not yet...

- American Icon
- HorsePower
- Torque
- Handling
- Similarity to XB geometry/ergos
- Better than any Buell before it...
- I want Buell to succeed
- Some interchangeable parts with the XB
- Looks cool...and different
- Can't think of a better Christmas present...to myself.
- Built by hard working Americans.
- MUCH better than a Firebolt.
- Love V-Twins
- Competitive V-twins are more expensive
- Competitive V-Twins are harder to get
- Competitive V-Twins are hard to service
- Been for a bike like this for 30 years…that could go head-to-head with the world
- Erik Buell is the definition of the American dream
- Wind protection
- See the love and passion in their eyes (at the factory). This is more than job…
- Try finding a web-site like this for other brands
- Male menopause. Delayed mid-life crisis. I'm 56 and have never owned a sport bike.
- Because I just want one.
- AND..... no need to perform chain adjustments or chain maintenance. Damn I'm getting lazy!
- Every now and then an event unfolds. An event who's significance is not understood until later. But you feel it is important and it is something special.
- A product is being produced that is much more than the sum of its parts. Some call it the ugly duckling. Somehow this "ugly duckling" has really won my heart.
- Because it's even better than an XB at answering the question "Why did you buy a Buell?".
- Because, just like the XB, there's almost nothing on it that doesn't make it go, stop or turn.
- Because the 1098 is a poser bike…
- Because I've been to Wisconsin, I heave friends there and I've always liked the attitude of the people and the place.
- Design principals and engineering genius put into the Buells.
- Previous experience with Buell has been good.
- Erik…really cool guy. I'd bet that pretty well everyone at Buell is at least tolerable .
- The technology in the frame/brakes/geometry etc just makes sense to me.
- Because I can.
- How about I LIKE IT and I don't need to explain it. It's always been that way with Buells either you "get it" or you don't.
- I deserve another toy
- American made
- Reasonably priced
- Lots of power
- High cool factor (everything about it is bad ass)
- Good looking
- Different
- Controversial
- Lts of people hate it (makes me like it more)
- Very significant event / milestone for Buell and H.D. & I want to be part of it.
- I was going to buy another bike anyway and the 1125r just happens to be exactly what I want.
- My Buells have never disappointed, I'm proud to have owned them and the third generation promises to be even more fun!!
- O.K. Since no one will admit it...Because Wifey said I could get one!
- It's a Buell!!! 'Nuff said.
- More Power; More Power; More Power; More Power; More Power; More Power; More Power; More Power; More Power; And the number 1 Reason for buying an 1125R: MORE POWER.
- Rotax engine (finally a descent engine)
- Low seat height (compared to other sport bikes)
- Ergos (again compared to other sport bikes)
- Low maintenance (I hope)
- Price (compared with European sport bike imports), best overall bang for the buck
- Quiet zone (seams to have more wind protection then other sport bikes)
- Dealer’s everywhere (compared to European imports)
- Uniqueness
- Weight
- Buell's reputation and my experience with their excellent reliability.
- Buell's innovative out of the box solutions for their own unique design requirements.
- Buell is an American Company that makes Motorcycles here in the US.
- I believe in the "Trilogy of Tech". I just makes sense.
- I love the design solutions of the 1125R transition to liquid cooling.
- I like the large fairing. Please hurry it's getting colder here.
- Belt Drive! I'm sold.
- Handling qualities that I've watched and read about seem world class.
- It has headlights. (? What do you ride now?)
- It doesn't look like my buds japomatic or anything else for that matter except maybe another XB.
- It has a few more ponies.
- It's within my price range

1. The chassis (fuel tank) is definately the best in the moto-industry.

2. The radiators are mounted on the side. I think we will see this solution followed by others in the future. It gives great benefit to engine placement and weight distribution

3. Lowest weight in the class

4. V-2 Power

5. Front wheel 2.5kg lighter than the GSXRK7. It is like having a magnesium wheel installed, it mades a big difference in suspension performance & handling

6. Price looks reasonable

7. Everybody knows that I ride Buells, so I do not want to dissapoint them

8. 47mm forks while the other (except MV Agusta) stick to "tiny" 43mm

Of course there are some things I do not like about the 1125R, but nothing in life is 100% perfect.

Vagelis46:

You make some good points from your viewpoint.

I get a chuckle every time I look at the new crop of Jap bikes and read their prose on "mass centralization". Most people agreed that the under slung muffler of the S1, S3, M2 and X1 were no real work of art but, were functional.

The Japanese have tried to make their lowered muffler more pleasing to the eye. Some have succeeded, some have not. Hey at least they got the hint, right????

The 1125r muffler is another example of function following form. I always felt this was a good place to start. Sure some SS would hold up a little better but it would stand out a lot more. IMHO this iteration is a good compromise and I would buy an 1125r the way it looks today w/o a 2nd thought, if I was in the market (BTW: It is VERY tempting!!!)

The Japs were very good in copying other people's ideas........ That is what they will keep on doing......

For me, Buell is all about the chassis.....It looks great, and is great.

So each time I look at the 1125R, I look at the chassis and then......It is the best looking bike in the world!

But I wish, Anonymous & some forum members were more skeptical and open to suggestions made by Buell riders, that like Buell motorcycles,.....

If I buy, it will be to race.

I'm very, very intrigued by the bike. Trying to decide, and trying to find money.

Wow...is that really necessary? I haven't posted here in months, just because of the constant whining and bickering. Buell sucks...Buell rules...1125R isn't American enough...it's too ugly...blah blah blah.

But enough is enough! Let's try to keep the bashing to the bikes only please and keep race out of it.

Does anybody remember WWII? Sounds like your mindset goes back to the 1930's!

Brian beat me to it.

The "Japs" were assumed to be incapable of original thinking and could only be capable of copying our "superior" products. Just read the thoughts of any Wildcat pilot about the Mitsubishi "Zero" being an inferior copy of somebody else's machinery.

We couldn't build a jet during the War without "copying" the British Whittle jet engine to put in our Aircomet.

I'm interested in Buell because it works for me. I'm don't buy/ride Buells because they're "not Japanese" and neither should anybody else.

I have two Japanese bikes in the garage still. Yeah, 3 Buells but I'm not selling the Japanese bikes either.

There is plenty of bike bashing going throughout this BADWEB...and throughout the web...Everyone seems to love bashing other brands but this string is about why we are buying one... Concur with the comment that buying one because it is not Japanese is probably the wrong reason to buy ANY bike.

Through the years I have had many...I have settled down to two favorite marks. My favorite out of those two is BUELL. When I want to have serious fun, I ride BUELL. When I want to ride WITH a bike instead of just riding on one, I ride BUELL. I am "one" with my XB and the 1125r is even better!

Vagelis,
Don't worry about the Jap comment... Japanese bikes are called Jap bikes and after WWII and to the 50s, 60s and early 70s, they did in fact copy much more than they developed from the ground up.

What are people in your part of the world saying about the 1125r and Buells in general?

Over here and in other parts of the world, because of the HD engine, Buells are considered to be slow bikes. That is until someone rides with an XB in a twisty road, and then they get impressed......

Now that a modern and more powerful engine is used in the 1125R, I think that we will see Buell to be established as a real superbike manufacturer.

Your name sound Greek, so where are you from ?

Agree. Jap, Euro etc... I have/had Jap, Euro (Brit, Italian, and German), and American bikes... The history of the companies that produce them are shaped by world history... Japan was once the enemy of the free world. They came out of the war badly beaten. The best they could do was to copy things and they did for a long time before coming up with their own innovations. It's easier to copy designs and keep your industries going than to engineer a motorcycle from scratch. Nobody questions modern Japanese production quality but something is missing that keeps bringing MC enthusiasts to the other brands. HD still outsells all other brands in the US... Why?

This brings me to just another reason I like Buell...

Buell has significantly advanced the art and science of frame/chassis design... The 1125R is the most recent example of Buell leadership in aggressive design that is street/user friendly. Most importantly it has the powerplant to go with it. I can't wait!

BTW: Vagelis, I sent you a private e-mail rather than clutter this string with private messages. Check out the e-mail address you have on file with BADWEB...

I don't know how many times this comes up here, but it's too many...Jap is derogatory...no different than Kraut, Wop, Polock, Chink. You may think Jap is short for Japanese, but being half Japanese myself I take offense to it.

Keep the focus on why you like the new 1125R , PLEASE!

If this thread deteriorates... it will be banished to the far reaches of BADWEB... where that other thread (Who is not buying an 1125R because) ended up.

FOCUS!!!
Who is buying...and why - top ten.

Maybe we need to start narrowing down the top ten... that was my thought from the beginning.
