"Buell Motorcycle Co. has long billed itself as the lone manufacturer of U.S. sport bikes, but that claim should come with an asterisk. In the 24 years Erik Buell has been building bikes, most of them have been geared for the street, not the track."

Susan needs to understand that 99% of "sport bikes" are never ridden on the track. She would be more accurate if she had said that "RR models should come with an asterisk" because they are geared for the track not the street.

I also wonder if Susan has ever ridden any of the RR liter bikes on the Streets track.

The Streets track is a track that rewards "real world" power and precise handling. RR liter bikes tend to be overwhelming to all but the most expert riders on the Streets track.
Susan would likely find that her lap times on the Streets track would be substantially quicker with an "asterisked" XB12R than they would be with a liter RepliRacer.

I know you're teasin', but if she's related to Bob & Patty Carpenter of Road Rider (predecessor of MCM), she probably knows a thing or 3. If not, well, my hat's off to her anyways; bio:

"What does she know? She's a girl."

Lots of "girls" out there who kick the boy's butts in motor sports.

That wasn't the point.

I don't even understand that quote.

Sport bike = a fast great handling bike for the street.

Race bike or Track bike = a bike specifically for the track.

Buell is correct in calling their bikes sport bikes.
