What is being done to alleviate the excessive footpeg heat mentioned by many 1125R riders on the pre-production bikes? | ||

I heard from a reliable source that this is being addressed and will be corrected on the production units. Additional shielding and/or reworked air flow/ducting. This is one example of the advantages of running these test mules at the track days - feedback and correct before final production. Of the three test mules I rode at Mid-Ohio -I only noticed the hot foot on one of them. | ||

In one of the other threads someone has said that the heat is due to the catalytic converter heat in the muffler/exhaust system. Does anyone know if all states will have the converters or will this just be a California only use. | ||

Its not related to the cat, and the bikes will have shileding that eliminates the issue. Only CA and European bikes will have cats. | ||

Thanks much Anonymous, what a great bike and likewise a great forum. Hard to wait until spring here and finally a ride on my own 1125R. Riding my M2 as much as possible to be completely elated when the new one arrives. See you in the twisties. | ||

ARG! At the dealer meeting at Mid Ohio on Tuesday they said ALL bikes (50 states and euro) are the same. ALL bikes will have the cat. But the Anony's have said twice that this is not true. I believe the Anony's. | ||

Yes, I was told (by people in the know) at Liberty that CA models will have a small cat. Although Buell expects the bike to pass tough California emissions WITHOUT the catalytic converter, they aren't going to take any chances. The CA cat is actually smaller than the one being put in Euro models. | ||

If these bikes are cat equipped, how will they respond to catnip? Would tuna juice be considered an octane booster? What happens if a squirrel runs out across the road? Just wondering.  | ||

Ha! Hey now, I realize Rats are not that fond of felines, but I love my cat. She's a fantastic pet that actually listens, knows tricks; acts pretty much like a dog really. The problem with most cats out there is their owners. A cat is smart enough to be disciplined. All that being said, how much do you charge? I've got some neighborhood "wanderers" that I'd like to take care of.  | ||

So, now that the 1125R is rolling off the production line, can anyone reveal what changes were made after gathering input/data from Laguna Seca and/or all the Inside Pass functions? | ||

See if you can spot part of the solution in the pictures! Mid bike right side. There were other changes as well but they aren't visible. | ||

Exhaust heat remedy: Is it that black plastic piece to the above left of the clutch cover and left of the rear cylinder exhaust pipe. This is from looking at pic number 11 in the photo gallery. | ||

I'd say Rsh nailed it. Not a part of the heat solution but it does appear that the clutch cover changed just a bit. Also early photos showed a black pipe heat shield and now it's the same color as the pipe. But... maybe this is just a matter of perspective but I think the muffler has changed. Same general shape but a bit smaller all round and tucked in better. Perhaps a slight shape change to to front of the pipe too? Anyway it does seem to be a noticeable improvement. | ||

I was just checking out the photos also. It looks like the radiator hoses are rerouted. On the right side one of the hoses goes forward and the other goes up and to the rear. On the track day photos it looks like both of the hose go towards the front and up. And I saw that with only a 19 inch monitor. | ||

Comparing to previous photos the only thing I see different is a larger heat shield on the rear cylinder pipe. | ||

All I can see is what Rsh and Cobralightning saw. A new heat shield behind the rear cylinder and re-routed coolant lines. Jaime. . . that was 100% correct when you were told. Things, in this first ever, "let the end users drive the last 1%" effort were in flux.
That's currently accurate information. Likely would have passed CARB without but with no performance penalty . . . why take the risk. |
