Words cannot describe how awesome that day was.

Pictures and videos might, however.

I'll give as good a summary as I can after I go take a shower.

The perfect day and the perfect place to be was at MID OHIO today. The 1125r is all that everyone else says and more. The overall package is unbelievable. The power ,the handling; it is a true progression of Buell's awsome machines. Thank you to Buell, PTT, Sportbike Track Time, and Vanson for the leathers.

Me and J were battling the most of the morning-I passed him once, which he says was illegal: ), but for the most part that guy rang that tubers neck...After lunch we didn't see much of each other on the track due to giving the new bikes a go around during different sessions.

Nice sticker BTW: )

My 1125r Notes:

The only 'scare' I had was on the 1125 I passed someone and ended up entering a corner way hot. I was laying on the front brake as I leaned into the corner, I thought for sure the front tire was going to give. The bike was 100% perfect. It did NOTHING but glide through the corner like ever other time. +1 for those tires, and +1 for that chassis! I was certain I was about to be the first one for the day to down a demo bike.

I also managed to get a bad speed wobble on one of the demo bikes. Going WOT somewhere around 3-5k rpm in 3rd gear, while exiting a turn into the straight, the front end got so light, it started wobbling bad. I stayed on the gas, and it only lasted a second before it corrected itself.

It also pulled the front wheel way up upon exiting a turn into a downhill section. Again WOT 3rd gear somewhere in the 3-5k range. That was exciting.

Like others have said:
There's no learning curve with this bike, you get on it, and GO! It's that easy.
Front brake is outstanding.
Clutch, is outstanding.
Tires are outstanding.
It is very difficult to make the chassis feel anything but solid as a freaking rock.
Yes, it vibrates more at 10k than at 5k, but I didn't feel it was bad at all. In the 3-7 range though, it's smooth as butter.
Biggest problem of the day.... Right foot heat! EEEOOOUUUCCHHH I hope they address that one.
In real riding, I don't know how excessive it would be. Other than lunch, these bikes weren't off the track more than 5 minutes at a time between 10AM and 3PM, that's A LOT of hard riding!

We were told in Pocono they already have a fix for the toasty toes (more heat shielding).

I'm jealous - sounds like you guys had a much faster track than the bumpy POS we had in Pocono ;)

Oh yeah, and my personal victory:

Even with the Banke rearsets, I ground down the both pegs and the shifter. Also the kickstand got a good shaving, and the toe sliders of my boots are ground down.

Jimduncan69 helped me build the confidence I needed. Once I got behind him, I was never passed again (with the exception of the instructors, who are all just crazy fast). And within 1 lap of following him, I had a knee down through every corner.

These Diablo Strada's are fantastic tires! I Highly recommend them! The corner coming into the front straight, I was dragging a knee, and at WOT at the same time, and the tires stuck like glue. Even dragging a knee over the crest of a hill in the back section, the tires never gave a hint of slippage. The were great.

Getting rid of the chicken strip on the back was easy, I didn't know it was possible to get rid of it on the front!

CEEJAY,
It was really cool to meet you and "not race" in accordance with the track rules. What a fun time.

That 1125R is a really neat bike.

Is Ceejay going to bring up his crossed up wheelie on the 1125r? Or are we trying to keep that a secret? ;)

Man-I wish someone had a pic of that, then I could actually try to tell people I got skills: )

That bike made me realize how down on power my little 9 is. The keyhole area was the worst If I did it in first I was hitting the rev limiter before getting out of the turn which made for a nasty shift while leaned over, If I did it in second I wasn't skilled enough to gain enough speed through the front part of the keyhole to get higher into the rev range(needs to be at ~5000 to move my 230lb arse) out at a decent clip. I'd watch the 12's just walk away everytime. I tried dropping her a gear on exit which was pretty interesting, bike got sideways a bit, and then I was in the rev limiter again anywho.

Didn't have to worry about it much with one of the new bikes, like everyone else had stated, whack it open and hold on. My wieght helps a bit as I was staying hunched over the tank most of the time so the front would stay down, well at least after I thought I'd do an accidental Vale impersonation...

And while we are in confession mode... from the GPS log for the 1125 r down the back straight at Mid Ohio...

screenshot

Note 1: That can't be right.
Note 2: Even though its probably off by some, it was freaking fast.

Sweet!!!
even if it's off by 20, that is still flying. I've heard the superbikes will get over 190 on that back straight. Then to be at 178(or 158) and go to ~40 is damn awesome...

I had a great time! (except for the early morning dusting) I was on the 1125 for all but 3 sessions. Its a great bike.
I still feel more comfortable on my Bolt.
A big THANK YOU to the Buell guys for putting on such a GREAT event.
Also, thanks for the shifter linkage! I had my bike back up and running in no time.
It now has the Slap Shot theme going on. I mad it look mean..... (for those of you that haven't watched that movie you need to)

I had a blast yesterday. Or maybe I should say it was a "Helicon" of a time! Road my XB12SS in the morning novice class(not trying to be an ass, because this was only my 2nd track day and I like to go fast, but I know I'm not fast, BUT, that first novice session was awful. It was basically four parade laps controlled by the instructors. I'm all for doing two parade laps for the first novice session, but four was a waste. They should have let the instructors pick up the pace after the first two laps). The next two morning sessions, I was out on the XB. Had some riders passing in spots that were no pass zones, but nothing dangerous. Just wasn't expecting it. I had heard that this may have been because they put first time "Inside Pass" riders into the novice group, even if they were more experience (faster) riders, but don't know if that is true or not. Man, Mid Ohio is difficult. So many turns had elevation changes in them, which made it difficult to look all the way through the turn. Road the 1125R for the first two sessions after lunch, and besides making me realize I need to lose at least 20LBS., the first thing I noticed was that it was even easier to ride fast than my XB. It was comfortable once under way, though. Lot's of torque, of course. The second thing you noticed coming from an XB was the top end! The speedo's were covered but in the 2nd session, I got on my instructors rear wheel, and if I had to guess, by the end of the session, we were going 150+ down the back straight. I'm sure this is nothing new if you've ridden and in-line four on the track before, but I had not. Other observations: the bike looks great in person, but it's all in the eye of the beholder anyway. The bike sounds sweet. Kind of hard to describe. I thought it kind of sounded like a triple. The only complaint I have has been mentioned, and that is I was ready to come in at the end of each session because my right big toe felt like it was roasting over a fire on a kabob. All in all, it was a great event, and I had a Helicon of a time.

I had an 1125r with the speedo untaped, and it hit 120 very easily before the kink in the back straight. But that was plenty fast for me.

They said the pictures will be up TODAY! I've been checking all day. I'm dying to know if they got a good picture of me from one of the last 2 sessions.

Gary, did you have the camera out on that last session when you weren't riding but I was?
