Just couldn’t help myself.

Even though I look upon a visit to a HD dealership as a voyage through enemy territory, I just had to see what the impact of the 1125R might be on what I consider to be arguably the worst Buell dealership on planet Earth: Eastern Harley Davidson Buell of Riverhead.

I must admit that they are devoted to Buell though. They have eight of them on the floor.

Thing is, four of them are brand new tubers, ( an X1, two M2's and an S-3), and another is a Blast, so that leaves three spanking new XBs, and a pile of Brag brochures. But I digress.

I hang out for about 10 minutes, wearing my Buell baseball cap, before I give up and approach the owner, and ask in a general way about the 1125R and when it might arrive.

'Hey, when do you want it - how about tomorrow?' he says amiably.

Then he turns to his son, hidden in a nearby office, and starts asking, with the air of some one who not only does not know anything about the matter, but also is never going to know about it, what the delivery situation might be.

The son is uncertain.

Says that he doesn't know if they are 'on allocation' for the model, might not be as a matter of fact, and doesn’t expect to find out until January.

Perhaps they plan on keeping the 1125R on the floor for the next five years like the Tubers, and thus do not share my sense of urgency?

To be totally fair, with the winters we have here, it is unlikely that they would actually sell one until spring anyway.

The owner then tactfully suggests that 'the thing' has too much power anyway, and points me to a more age-appropriate geezer bagger.

At least the owner and I can agree on one thing: it probably is a bit more powerful than I actually need, but we knew that already, didn't we?

I decide to keep Lil Blackie for the moment, and so I beat a tactical retreat.

So much for the thunderstorm of excitement the 'new thing' is creating out in Harley Land.

I can hardly say I was surprised.

Somewhat disappointed perhaps, but not surprised.

Are you?

A few dealers I talked with said,
"No problem. stop by today, we'll get it ordered, it'll be here in August with the rest of the bikes."

I heard this exact response from 3 different dealers. Andy of Appleton was the first guy I talked with who really knew what the heck he was talking about. What a contrast!

Hell... Lil' Blackie has too much power for a geezer, but you're not exactly there yet.

At Adamec HD here in Jacksonville, FL, the guys I know there are tripping over themselves trying to get a 1125R. The sales manager told me he already has one with his name on it (he owns a Road King and just sold his R1). He showed me the brochure a few weeks ago. I guess they're not giving them out to the general public right now.

We've received a sum total of three brochures at our shop (HD/B of Frederick)...one of which I cannibalized so I could put the centerfold pic on my office wall, LOL. I'm hoping we'll get them with our shipment of '08 product brochures (which we still have not gotten).

Everyone there knows I'm the "Buell Guy"...or "Nut"....or any other non-family site-acceptable term, LOL; so conversations I've had with them are already biased about the new bike as far as excitement goes. The techs are genuinely interested (we've got a couple VRSC owners out there, and an XB owner in the machine shop). One guy in parts can't wait. I can't wait. My GM is still waiting for the motor company to tell us how many we're getting. The only piece of unbiased information I have as to staff reaction? When we got our first Buell bike crate for '08, everything stopped and every soul was watching to see what came out. It was a 9SX...but I was impressed to see that many folks waiting for an un-boxing. I didn't even know it was there until I finished a delivery, looked around, and asked "where is everybody?".

They are not collecting the tubers, in the conventional sense of the word, although it is a rather nice collection if you like mint tubers - and who doesn't?

In the great Harley tradition, they do not have any price tags on them as is legally required in New York State, if I remember correctly.

The last time I inquired, they were asking list price for them, but that was a couple of years ago.

"At Adamec HD here in Jacksonville, FL..."

I've been to Adamec's. They let me go upstairs and sit on the XR750 they have on display.

They were so cool, I bought a t-shirt from them and hung around looking at the bikes.

I liked Jacksonville... Orange Park.

Just got off the phone with my local sales rep. GAve him a deposit on the first one due into the shop. He kinda knew what I was talking about when I first called. They are an OK Buell dealer. But, before he ended the conversation, he said that as part of their sales process, he was required to ask if I was interested at this time to order any accessories for the bike (read-CHROME). I informed him that there probably weren't many accessories yet available for a bike that has not yet been produced. But that I would probably be interested in the parts and service manuals as the first accessories that I purchased.

Hey, maybe a few extra HP from chrome is just what the doctor ordered.

Later,

Joe

I went to Orlando Harley a few years ago where they had a few old tubers as well. The salesman asks, "Do you want a Buell to go with that hat?!" He tells me to look at a '97 S3 instead of a 2002 'cause it'd save me a lot of money and they are exactly the same. I had to explain all the differences between '97 and '02.

I was just there are they advertised as having the "LARGEST SELECTION OF NEW BUELLS IN FLORIDA"...when asked I'm told that it must be because they had a dozen or so Blasts in the back...that they used for Rider's Edge training .

Wait until the bike mags get ahold of this bike. This has to be the biggest story of 2008 regarding sportbikes....

No offpavement riding until new knobbies, and front brakes. Then it will be open season on BMWs, KTM's, Tigers and of course MUD. Still waiting on the 1125R... In the mean time; mint, new, out of the box tubers.... mmmmmm I do have a soft spot for the original Buell Hooligan rides.

Would a "new" tuber come with Buell's 2-year unlimited mileage warranty?

Perhaps one of the HD/Buell dealers or salesmen will correct me, but I do believe that the two year factory warranty started with the 2004 models, regardless of when the motorcycle was purchased.

Anyway, in a couple of years, these bikes will be worth more as "mint" collector's items: too expensive to ride!
