Interesting.

Bear in mind that one $0.50 part can stop the entire show. Building motorcycles requires ALL the PARTS . . . ALL the TIME.

Don't even start that discussion about "we'll go ahead and ship it and send that bronze $0.03 bronze screw to the dealer to install".

Dodge learned that lesson.

Good point Court, plus the $0.03 part installed at the Dealer turn into a $30.00+ part.

Once again, we aren't talking about multiple parts here, OR a large number of bikes..... we are talking about a limited edition color scheme. Even if it took 6 months to produce 50 limited bikes, it could be done.... and my opinion is that I think Buell would sell those models very quickly.

All I'm doing is suggesting that it is the PERFECT time to do something like this. New bike, 25th Anniversary and a lot of press around this bike already.

I agree with Bonjo. Plus the limited / anniversary edition could help keep the resale value high for those of us who bought the 1st batch!! Maybe the black and blue scheme should be discontinued in 6 months??? Also if the factory doesn`t do it, I will be adding "Old Glory" to at least 2 sides of mine!!!!!

Dalton, must be "Missouri thinkers"!! Not sure if Kevin called you, but your bike will be running behind schedule. You can check out the post in Badweb concerning delivery dates. Appears the motor company is being held up by a few vendors who provide parts to them. As SOON as we hear different, we'll let you know. (of course you'll probably know before us if Anon keeps us up to date)

Bonjo; I`m not concerned about "running behind" I am not interested in paying a whole years worth taxes on a new bike for 2 or 3 weeks worth of riding (weather permitting) I am also wanting to put at least half down and don't quite have it all yet. Last but not least, I would rather the factory take their time and get it right the first time because when I start riding the last thing I want is a problem.

I still think that the factory should make the first batch of bikes "Unique" and "special"
Kind of like when HD had a limited run of XR 1000's back in the 1980's "I'm sure you get my point"

Besides the Red, White and Blue scheme on this XB, take a look at these rims.... one GREAT looking XB. Put a Rotax in that baby and I'm sold!!

This mix and match color components was tried in 1999 on the S3 I'm looking at the sales brochure right now. There were 9 tank fender and fairing colors, 4 frame colors 5 wheel colors, 2 different handlebars, and that was the year the T wasn't a separate bike model but an option.
My question is. Did this work? Or was it a nightmare never to be repeated. Has the company's Production rate grown too big to make this a viable option? Or is this something that could be done a couple of years down the road and we could have our Sport Tourer? Thank you for answering any or all of these questions.

Hey DAve, Josh you guys want to chime in here? I feel it worked for a number of riders and for a few it was somewhat painful. Josh had it done the old fashion way with Shadowfax. Something about swapping this for that and trading a soon to be 1st born........

Oh well maybe Josh can fill you in. In this day and time of high inventory turns and JIT deliveries maintaining the inventory would be cost prohibited for most companies. Even the bigger players like Honda usually offer one color/ year (Look at the ST1300). I know they tout the numerous options for like the VTX's but have you tried to get those options in just the combination you want, good luck!

Time2Work (where is that schedule and forecast, darn why don't they agree!!!)

When I placed my order, the dealership already had a Yellow w/ NucBlue S3 w/T options on order and they thought they could just change it to Silver body work.
However it showed up in Yellow (based on what I know now I'll bet they never contacted the factory) so they swapped body work with a Silver/Black S3

I know Waitin' DAve got his right away tho ;)

NIGHTMARE is not a word strong enough to describe it . . . I still have all my internal e-mails from the Rainbow Paint (1998 S1WL) and the 1999 program.

The idea was great . . . but execution was a taste of reality.

I think if you are larger than about 3 bikes a month this would be tough. Buell has done something (another first perhaps?) kinda cool by having NO painted parts on a motorcycle on some of the XB's with molded in color. It's interesting to hear how the process was developed.

After reading Anon's post on the color choice in why some are not buying an 1125, I have a little more appreciation for the black and blue colors. I'll still say we should have at least a flag somewhere on it (I think the center of the tail section). Anon, would you (Or court if you have the story) please be willing to share with us WHY the 1125R is the color that it is. I feel there are a few members who might appreciate and respect this bike for what it is and stands for, if they have a little more background on it.

Josh you make it sound a lot simpler now, but I thought there was also something to do with giving up a 1st born, or maybe it just felt that way ;+}

That was waiting for the replacement silver fairing since the original one was cracked or had paint problems or something. 6+ months for a fairing. I found out during that time the delay was all the dealer, it took less than 2 weeks for the factory to ship after they got the order. It took 3 months for the dealer to actually order it, it took 2.5 months for them to realize they had received it...

I like that frame color.

Ugly? Hahaha... my GS is ugly. My WeeStrom was ugly. Come to think of it, I've never owned a "pretty" bike.

Hey, I've never owned a sport bike. Never even considered one until now. 1125r. I WILL have one.

AND, I like the brakes already, simply because they are not ABS :o)

I love the frame. Not as much for the color (but the backstory is great!) but for the texture. Hides dirt. Hides brake dust. No scratches.

Of course, my S2 is in the garage right now with a pair of white Marchesinis. The front one is rust brown on the right side (steel rotor, rainstorm); the rear one is just about the same color as the tire (same rainstorm, uncorked Supertrapp blowing carbon right on it). I have to clean it someday. Won't like it. Diamond blue? Wouldn't even be able to tell, LOL.

Short version is, Erik had this bike in his head, on paper and even partially prototyped almost 20 years ago. Through much persistence, trial and tribulation it HAS FINALLY become a reality. Hence the black and blue of bruises required to get here.

Still waiting for a more eloquent telling of the tale.

C'mon Court, tell us a story...while we're waiting for Santa, I mean , the Truck Driver, to bring us our presents.

HE don't get it, this IS the limited edition color scheme, it is even badged with a 25th anniversary and E Buell signature. How do you get more limited edition than that? Plus everyone seems to have had to order one and wait for delivery. I wouldn't think that is anything but LIMITED at the moment.

I would like all black, including the frame, with gold accents to match the color of the pipes.
Maybe next year?
