I was looking at the scoops and its the only thing that bothers me a bit, but after looking a few pics I noticed the scoops are not attached to the frame in any way. i honestly think if i am correct on this. someone could come up with an aftermarket smaller scoops or even no scoops, but rather side fairings with scoops integrated?
it would be easier if buell would make this modification before it appears on dealers.
I think the scoops is th only thing veveryone i have chatted with is not totally happy with them.

thanks

It's nice to see threads not involving the XB aftermarket RSS. Maybe we could get Rob Crins to come up with something.

I think Buell people have scoop issues.

Add a scoop where the engineers left one off. Gripe about the scoops that the engineers put on.

Weird.

Ummmm... have people ever considered that the scoops might be... what's the word I'm looking for... oh yeah:

FUNCTIONAL????

I highly doubt Buell just thought they'd slap on large sidepods just for the hell of it. Maybe they actually help with COOLING THE RADIATORS????

Jeez, it's not like they stuck on spinner hubcaps....

I would have rather had fake Twennay Fo Spinnaz...

Just Kidding : ).

The only angle I don't like the scoops from is directly from the side. Everywhere else they're just fine.

I hear they're quite nice in person. Kinda like the camera adding 10lbs and all that... See it first : ), then make up your mind.

Those scoops are pretty cool in real life.
The fans have to be heard to be believed.
At Laguna they had the bikes running and the large crowd gathered around them restricted air (sorta like being in a small room with no roof) so after 10 minutes the tech shut the bike down and when I bent down to get a closer look at the radiators I could barely hear them running.

As soon as I stood back up I couldn't hear them at all over normal conversation : )

Maybe that could be a mod from Al @ American Superbike.
Louder fans that are ever so slightly off sync from each other. Make is sound like a twin engined airplane.

Or maybe not....

Silly Buell...they should have left the scoops off, then charged $300 for them as an aftermarket option. They have sold a ton of them and everyone would be raving about how cool they look.

<sigh>

Until we get some in depth reviews of how functional these scoops are, I would reserve jumping to conclusions. They might be SO functional that they go from silly to sexy for many people. (or maybe acceptable )

Yay, acceptable! LOL

Sorry I just need to vent a little as it's my personal opinion that they were sooooooo close to total perfection and baked a perfect cake and then let a dog lay a turd on it. I want to focus on the cake but my eyes are keep going back to the turd. Sorry for focusing on the turd laying on the cake, I really an trying to get up the courage to have a piece of cake and just eat around the turd but not sure I'm that brave just yet. But damn I want that cake!

Brad, let's see the bike in person first. I like the fact that the pods will let everyone know its a BUELL--even from afaraway. An if they work as advertised-keep the heat away from the bike AND rider-well, I will take the function over the possibly-not-so-perfect form.

IMO, dog turd is a huge exaggeration.

If those scoops are ugly, how 'bout those pipes.

I think the pipes are fine. Buell has a ton of work into getting them legal, sounding good & performing great. Again like the pods, Buell may have given credence to function over form. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Heres another idea! Buell could stick the exhaust cans up under the rider's a$$--that is soooo comfortable on a warm day. Love how the big 4 are slowly stealing the mass centralization theory that Buell has stood behind for years.

Pushrodpete did some pretty good Photo Shopping over on the Photo Shop thread.

Red1125R

IMO the color contrast between the scoop body and its leading edge molding improves the look dramatically.

I ordered mine today, the first in Broward county, Fl. That bike can Only come in black. And the pipes are still ugly.
Now here's a beaut.

Unfortunately all I am hearing on the non-Buell boards is how ugly the scoops are and that comes from people who saw the bike at MotoGP. Hopefully there will be a reasonable solution for people willing to give up some efficiency for looks.

I think that if you went the conventional route, you'd be sitting at a 57"+ wheelbase, and would be using 30% more radiator, which is a lot heavier than some plastic.

People are going to see what they want to see.

Sorry, but these radiators are not afterthoughts. You can see the indent in the frame that accommodates the radiator. Maybe you can soften the leading edges a bit, but that's about the extent of it.

Without seeing one first hand, I'm guessing that these things use static suction at higher speeds, and fans at idle. Static pressure suction isn't something at which that the aftermarket jumps.

If somebody wishes to give up some efficiency for looks, I would suggest that they purchase a Ducati.

My only gripe is that these scoops don't howl every time the operator moves the throttle in and out of idle...but that's just a twisted personal preference and no fault of Buell's.

Also don't forget that those scoops are designed to function as frame pucks/sliders.

They're like one big spring plus there's an extra sheet of aluminum for added impact absorption.

I was told that replacements would be reasonably priced.

Saying you can only have form or function is a cop out. The world is full of beautiful yet functional beauty.

Hey look a FUNCTIONAL center scoop

IMO that would only make sense if you were building a show bike... or a chopper.

There's a lot more room to work with on that beauty : )
A bike is what, two feet wide at the most?
That makes it a little more limiting in what you can and can't do to get the desired result.

I'll admit I'm biased. I'm in the function over form group. I want ridability and reliability first & foremost.
Looks are a close second but I'm lucky in that I actually like the looks of this bike.

I hope aftermarket can come up with something remotely close in function and gorgeous in form for everyone who wants form over function.

I'm all for everyone getting what they want : )
