Heard you were at BHF this week. Would you be willing to tell us what kind of testing you were performing?

This is an unknown anonymous poster who requires verification.

We're just getting ready and working on some final touches. We will soon have journalists from all over the world riding the 1125R for the first time and we want to have the bikes setup for them. They come in all sizes, weights, and various skill levels. In addition, many of them have ridden the 1098 at tracks already and we wanted to understand some of the competitions strengths (almost none) and weaknesses (lots of them).

That's the first rays of the Beull-rise coming over the horizon.

Wait till this 1125R claws the ground, snorts and goes head-to-head with "the best that's around".

The deck has been tossed into the air . . .

Court when it is doing all that clawing the ground and stuff I think I should be on this bike while it is doing that.

Not all anonymi would state it this way. All Superbikes have lots of performance and most have good engineering and appeal. But I think we will be fully credible on the world stage, with our own flavor. But who's to say? Those enamoured with World Superbike or with real animosity towards American engineering will come with a chip on their shoulder; we will do our best to convince them with a great riding experience. Speak softly, guys...

the gauntlet has been thrown...if the 1125R wows the press it wont matter if buell decided to use small vietnamese children for radiator pods...if this thing is a 1098 killer there will be a lot of hoopla that follows press day...grandma always used ta say...if ur gonna be a bear u might as well be a grizzly....the next few months will be very interesting...tis sink or swim time...good luck to erik and all the people from buell...i may be a traitor but im still rootin for ya'll....any motorcycle company that actually answers questions from their patrons is alright in my book : D .

So is that the basis for the name for the 1125r?

The Buell 1125r... "The Big Stick"

From the spec sheets, it already appears to be a good race. 1098 has a little more power, 1125r has a much better torque curve, weights are very close, 1125 will have significantly less unsprung and rotating mass... and is much cheaper and looks much easier to maintain...

Where's the popcorn? : )

Days like this make me wish I was an editor at the bike mags and not Four Wheeler. Well, until August when I get to participate in a development drive and pilot cammoed future products over some famous trails and give input, then I am happy I am a truck guy. : D

Read in another thread that Buell has a 1098. Did test riders ride it back to back during any testing to provide feedback?

Would love to hear some reports after testing at Blackhawk because it is such a tight technical track where Buell racers often do well there because they can surf the torque curve.

And because we will never be able to read any reports from that track in any magazine reports.

Although we had some very specific rider-driven goals that were the foundation of the 1125R, we also had a number of different liter superbikes during development and spent track time with many of them so we knew them well, where they had strengths and weaknesses. However we will never post this stuff, but will let the market evaluate the bikes themselves and then work on refining what the riders want.

It's very difficult to serve two masters. You either have to serve the race replica, stat sheet crowd or you have to serve riders who do most of their riding on the street.

When it comes down to it, the majority of us ride on the street, with maybe a few track days thrown in for fun. Most riders are not racers. It just makes good sense to develop a motorcycle for the street rider, especially given that there are plenty of race replica options out there. In fact, you can find examples 5 or 6 years old with less than 10,000 miles on them all over the place. Wonder why that is?? : )

I think Buell had delivered a bike that will perform very close to a superbike, but do so in a manner that doesn't beat up the rider or make it hard to ride.

Given my skill level, I'd rather have a bike that's easier to ride and manage, than a faster bike that's harder to control.

I can't tell you how many guys riding race replica bikes I pass at track days on my Ulysses. I also see a lot of them in the gravel traps too.

A sportbike has to be developed on track for the track after all it is a sportbike. It has to perform because if it did not the magazines would say so and they would not sell as many bikes. When magazines show performance tests and bikes do well it sells bikes. When sportbikes are raced and they do well it sells bikes.

Even though a sportbike is performance driven it can still be a great street bike. I would not worry about how it is on the street because it appears that this is very important to Buell from all the posts about body position, lower pegs because of narrow engine, cockpit environment, heated grips, useable power band, low maintenance, better lights, lower weight, better brakes, shock absorbing pods if you drop it, more fuel capacity, plug-in power outlet, etc...

But you still gota love it when a manufacturer is testing your next bike at your home track.

You know I have never bought ANY bike that the motorcycle press has liked. I will now go out of my way to demo bikes that they specifically hate. And well since I am the one riding it, really my ideas about the bike are the ones that are going to control my wallet and spending. ON that note, I notice that the European mags will list the test riders height , weight, and inseam. I think they should do the same here. It goes along way to explaining some of their gripes about certain bikes. Just my .02 worth

"sportbike has to be developed on track for the track after all it is a sportbike"

Which is different from a "race bike".

Take a look at a Dodge Viper in a showroom and a Dodge Viper in the GT class...

They're NOT the same. The GT Viper doesn't work on the street. The street Viper doesn't work on the track.

A "sportbike" should be developed for the street where 99.9% of their miles will be traveled. Buying a race bike for the street is a decision made by someone who thinks that they'll be faster because of it. It doesn't work that way.

seeing as how the 1125R is being "compared" to the 1098 by anony....

does that mean that when the press gets to test ride the 1125R there will be a 1098 there as well in order to give them that bike to bike comparison?

Probably not unless they bring their own... That said... I'm sure we'll see comparisons between the 1125 and the 1098 in the not too distant future.

I wonder how much more performance you can get out of the 1125 for the price difference? I don't think it'll need any more but I'm just curious : ).
