Seriously, give me one.

I'll do real world testing. You know... finding out if it's faster after you wash it and change the oil (like my bike is), finding out the fastest color (use to be Cobalt Blue, but now it's metallic silver... which is a heck of coincidence seeing as how I had my Cobalt Blue one repainted metallic silver), finding out how many people you can fool into believing you built it yourself (remarkably easy on a tuber), finding out how hard it is to push start with a compromised battery because you took the key out in the ridiculous 'park' position (not so easy after two Cannon burgers at the Cannon Brewpub), finding out if it's quiet enough to sneak out after you said you were in for the night (you guys suck at that one) and finding out how badly you can piss off the parts guys at the Harley dealers (if I wanted a sneer, I'd have given you a poke in the eye).

This is important stuff that only I am qualified to report on... seriously.

Psssst....

If you promise not to tell anybody, I've got a fail-safe plan to get myself an 1125R to race and to ride.

It costs a few bucks in the right places - a bribe as it were.

I think I can get one in my hands about November. All I have to do is slip about $12K to Ernie Snair at Glendale Buell/HD and he said he'd set it up for me.

(Shhhhh... you didn't get this from me)

Slaughter are we going to have to fight to the death for the first one?
Long time no talk, any track days planned in the near future?

Peter,

Finally found some shop space to rent. I decided to put the bike back together myself instead of imposing on Bartels to do it. Just didn't seem right this time since the bike is totally destroyed.

Probably a couple months before it's up and running. I still go to Willow every race weekend even when not racing.

I'll be doing Fri/Sat/Sun at Willow every month and a few track days at other tracks.

I'm also doing the Buell track day at the Streets in October.

Fill me in on the details of your sneaky brilliant plan please ;).

(looking over my shoulders carefully before typing)

You need to go to Glendale HD/Buell and see Ernie Snair... you gotta kinda "grease the skids" (wink, wink, nod, nod) - invite him and his wife to dinner... that will give you the chance to talk witout others overhearing your conversation. You don't want him to get in any trouble for this.

After a dinner, maybe a bottle of wine - dessert... lightly broach the subject - maybe start out by complimenting his HOT wife on how marvelous she looks (she does, by the way, look marvelous)... where was I??

?? Oh yeah, the bike... since he won't know why you're taking him and the wife to dinner, you probably want to have an indirect conversation starter like: I hear you play guitar (he does) - read up on classic rockers - maybe even drop the names of some of the newer rocker bands. See if that opens things up a little bit.

Maybe then say how the really great Brit bikes of the 50's and 60's represented some groundbreaking styles "back in the day" and now in today's day and time, the REAL rockers are left to fend for themselves - with the lack of British bikes.

Maybe use this opportunity to reminisce about the Ace Cafe - and runs in the suburbs on those fine handling machines...

...and how we're only recently seeing them coming back with the ever-evolving Buell brand of motorbikes (may have been a rough segue but hey, you're probably getting eager... but calm down now - you're about to dangle the hook)...

...you might let it slip that Buell has this new cool machine that'd really be RIGHT for you and could do well in your hands... and let that sink in. Maybe offer his wife a glass of wine.

Now you might make a move forward into Ernie's confidence. Maybe suggest that you had hoped to get close enough to somebody with the right "pull" who might be able to let you have a chance at a delivery position... NOT asking favors, you understand (another wink, wink, nod, nod) - but just asking.

Ernie at this time is probably very intrigued so you might let slip that you'd be prepared to make this "transaction" worth his time.

He would of course be intrigued and invite you to be a little more definite in what you'd say you'd be giving in exchange for the "privelege."

I'd suggest keeping it simple, you don't want to appear over-eager so maybe say, offer him a $1000 fee as a "deposit" (more winking and nodding - his wife smiles)

Ernie will certainly accept that - maybe leaving himself open for a little more to "complete the deal."

You might ask what you might do to make it worth his while - you know, make the "sale" as it were...

He'd likely invite you to a cup of coffee at Glendale Buell where you might "fill out papers" - he does that not just to keep up appearances, something about the State and all that stuff.

If you are REALLY getting to his good side, he might mention that for another $11K (plus tax, dealer prep and other fees) - he might be able to "do something for you."

Now, you can't go and tell anybody about this, I can't burn him by having a ton of people rushing into his office trying to score this special deal that I just let you in on.

(Shhhhh....)

Steve....
Has the heat up there in Palmdale finally fried your brain? <grin>

I didn't go through any of that. Called up Ernie on Monday after the announcement and asked if I could be on the list. He said, sure... I stopped by a day later with a deposit. He went to his computer and printed out an slip saying I'm #5 on the list. Now I'm paranoid that I have ruined it for everybody else with my direct approach.

It was simple..

Why do I feel like the duck in the AFLAC commercial...

Signing off.... and going underground.. just in case...
