Can we conclude that the ergonomics of the 1125r are like the Firebolt in reach to the grips and like a Lightning to the pegs? | ||

Sort of; you'll have to sit on it to feel it. It's quite comfortable for a sportbike with lower bars. More comfortable than a Firebolt, definitely more comfortable than a GSXR for example, and infinitely more comfortable than a 1098!!! | ||

I'll speak to that. At 6'5", I was really happy with the legroom on the bike. Reach to the bars is never a big issue for me, but with bad knees, the legroom is always my limiting factor. Most of you have seen the pic of me sitting on the bike. You can clearly see that my foot is not folded up near my butt as it would be on a Firebolt. Now...I wanna ride this beast!!  | ||

Maybe they found the ideal photography rider model, 26" inseam and "ape-like" arm length, BUT... ....he doesn't look all bent over and the legs aren't bent that deep like on my bike. Maybe they're right this may be a comfortable sportbike, I am hoping so. Certainly isn't Ducati or Big 4, I-4 bent over, ass as high as the torso, at all, REALLY. What is comfortable in town riding from stop-light to stop-light is quite different from riding hard in the twisties, or track. Admittedly, the Ducati is a rack in town but fits like a glove on higher speed twisties and on track days. Comfort also has a lot to do with the individual rider's level of fitness and flexibility...thus accounting for all of those pot-bellied cruiser riders that we see all over the roads of America these days.  I think I hear you saying that the new Buell's ergonomics are not as racer oriented as the new duck? I can't wait to ride the Buell...or for that matter the 1098 also. May I respectfully suggest that a different (better?) way to describe it is to compare it to the known ergonomics of the XB as the original questioner suggested. How do the bar and peg positions of the new bike compare to the XB's? jimidan | ||

Sitting on your nuts doesn't feel any better on twisty roads than it does around town. The elevated seat and lowered clip-on handlebar stance is better for one thing only, a tight crouch for high speed running, meaning racing. | ||

Anyone who claims a 998/999/1098 is comfortable in ANY riding situation has never ridden one except for a quick run to pose by the Rock Store. And that includes the track. If you want real misery, ride the Daytona 200 on a full race bike. Ain't no fun happening there. There is no doubt that clip-on bars down low and butt high make for good aerodynamics at 180 mph, and racing is all about the speed and is done for money. But never forget, comfort does NOT enter into the equation. To say that the GP riding position is good for twisty back roads is completely untrue. Add in your butt smoking from the exhaust heat, and it's Marquis De Sade all the way. | ||

I, for one, am very happy Buell designed the bike to be "ridden" versus being raced. It's much easier for a racer to make a bike trackworthy than it is to make a race bike comfortable. I'm guessing of all the Gixxers, Ninjas, CBRs, and R1/6s that are sold...only a small fraction end up on the race track, either in a race or just doing a track day. I know...because I'm the one at the track days on a Ulysses. Believe me...most "sportbike" riders have WAY more bike then they know what to do with. Even the Ulysses has more capability than I have skill. I just need a little more motor for the straights....otherwise, I have a LONG way to go before I can outride that bike's capabilities. The Ulysses with the 12R wheels, Wilbers suspension, and Braking USA rotors with Lyndalls pads makes a decent "sleeper" on the track. | ||
