As a Brand loyal Buell purchaser, Everyone I know around me knew I was eagerly awaiting the new Buell. I have created a slide show with about 30 photos of the new bike to show off. Just by chance the first photo is a dead on front end shot, everyone goes OOOOOO sexy, next shot, goes to a full on side shot and most everyone goes silent then points at the scoops and sezz eww what are those?

Let me make a few points,

I love Buells.
I love all of this Buell but the Frisbees on the side.

So as someone who wants to see Buell succeed, I wonder did they keep this bike "too secret" no focus groups? No testing concepts on potential buyers. Is the people I'm showing these pictures to an anomaly. I have said nothing of me personal opinion to affect them. I will still likely buy the bike but will take the Cinabuns off before I leave the dealers lot, and pray to the aftermarket gods for help.

Many here think its doing Buell a disservice to say anything not positive on the bike right out of the shoot. I say to hide the truth is dishonest and disservice as the best time to fix a problem is early, now, not later.

I know not everyone thinks the Scoops look odd but boy did my sharing/market research get a negative reaction.

Different is good!
Ugly is Bad!

And looks do count to some extent no matter how hard we try to wish that fact away.

I have so far gotten the same response. That said... I haven't looked at the bike in person. It does certainly look good from the front IMO. I've grown to like the wide fairing (especially because I ride in the rain and snow).

I'm not a fan of the way the top of the scoops look compared to the fairing from the side though. I really think that there have been some excellent photoshops that really make the bike look great. My favorite one has the fairing too low for function (the bars would hit the fairing) but I think that something like that with the fairing back up where it needs to be would look good.

I do agree with Buell sticking to the form following function thing but I have to say that they could fudge that a LITTLE bit and make a decidedly better looking bike.

there are certainly a lot of people out there that will think (they won't say it) "I can't ride either of these to their potential anyhow, so I'm getting the duck because it looks better."

I'll get the Buell and hope for after market scoops. I think a good number of people won't.

I agree that now is the time to reassess the aesthetic appeal of the scoops.

"Scoop deville"

Bloody hilarious : ).

I agree, the scoops look out of place.

Others on this board will flame you for not cheerleading for Buell. Now...if those same scoops were on a Kawasaki we would all be allowed to call them ugly.

Even some people bought an Edsel.

I spoke with some people at the factory and even they have mixed emotions on the 'pods'. The bike isn't fully released yet so lets hope they change something around. I think at this point if they don't change it that enough people are saying the same thing about the scoops that within a year or two we will have a few choices from the aftermarket community.

I don't know what they would change at this late date. Those scoops contain the radiators.

I like the pods looks from the front, back and top(riders)view. My first impression from the side was quite negative but the more I look the better I get with it. Maybe it's the form vs. function thing. A lot of airflow study went into their design so I doubt they'll change.

I feel the same way, Unibear. At first I didn't like the pods. Now they growing on me, probably because of the "function" aspect. I also believe they will look better in person and especially with a rider aboard. Besides, Buell has made its reputation by not being conventional, right?

I'm not an aerodynamicist, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn last night, but I have had the distinct honor of working along side someone who knows a thing or two about inlet design ...and I think he'd approve of this concept ...when I return from vacation, I'll ping this design off of him, and get some feedback.

It looks like Buell used FLUENT CFD for their scoop design; good call.

I'm going back to my vacation...

I actually like the look, and the more, and better quality pics I am seeing, the more I like it. I plan on owning one. But then again, I think my M2 is a thing of beauty, and love the looks of my 67 ford pickup...

Hmmm..?? Add a full fairing and 99.5 percent of "ugly" comments would go away. Also most Asian/European/Harley riders would never give it a second look.

I'm sure if if that's what you want, the after market will be more than happy to accommodate you.
