How fast is it?

What is the official top speed in testing of this pre production model?

I don't think it has been said yet. Someone crunched the numbers in another thread and said the gearing works out to 175 MPH and guessed that 170 would probably be attainable.

Somebody mentioned it in at least one thread. IIRC an engineer at homecoming answered: "in excess of 160 MPH".

Using a Web utility (Gearing Commander)
I got this.
My first calculations were off a wee bit.
Sorry about that. Forgot to change the primary ratio. This thing is geared low.

There's a rounding error in the Helicon specifications. Sixth is 0.960 to 1, not 1 to 1.

Ha! "Rockets_ghost"! That's just funny!

I wondered how long "it" would take to come back around with the new model out...

How does that calculator take rider weight and aerodynamics into account? I'm assuming it doesn't.

Do other manufacturers use a similar program to calculate top speed?

Just curious: )

Worrying about top speed is sort of like arguing which gun to shoot someone with, a .50 cal or a .45.

Both will get the job done.

Accleration and handling are what I'm wondering about. I wanna know how fast the 1125 will sprint from 40-100. That's where I spend most of my riding time.

Wonder how fast the 08 XB9SX will go?

It now has the XB12 (taller) primary drive.

Using gear commander I can up with this.

07 XB9X top speed = 137mph
08 XB9X top speed = 153mph

153mph if the HP and Aerodynamics can keep up!

Yeah, that calculator is only theoretical.
Aerodynamics and horsepower will have an effect on the ultimate top speed.
But considering that the bike should still have over 140hp at redline, and the Buell engineers/designers claim to have put a lot of research into the bikes aerodynamics, I don't think that it would be too difficult for a medium or smaller build rider to tuck in and reach 160+mph.

I doubt that an 08 XB9X would reach 150mph.
I think the wind resistance would be too much to overcome.
Maybe if it was an XB9R with the same gearing.

The calculator is not theoretical. It is top speed without wind resistance/HP variables.

It potential of gearing @ redline.

Yes It would be crazy to get the cityX that fast.

Why would they want to gear 08 model like that?

less power/better fuell milage?

The new bike's top speed was quoted quite some time ago : ). 174 MPH. Of course none of us were bright enough to be put two and some other imagined number together (apparently 1125 : )) so we never got it...

I dunno, at Miller Motorsport they taped over all the speedos soze us squids wouldn't wreck looking down at them.

Well what you have to really consider is "usable" horsepower and speed. But if ya gotta know, the 1125R out of the box will top out at 168mph. But I agree with chadhargis, it's what you can do with it, not what it will do! Pull a hairpin turn at 168mph and you'll be my hero!

Oh, and another thing. When you hit redline in 2nd you're doing about a buck 15!

The 08 XB9SX looks like it has the same primary gearing it has always had, according to the Buell website. Is it really true that it has the 12 gearing for 08?

Hope not. If anything, it should go the other way for the SX (and maybe TT).

I wish 1-4 were geared lower, but 5th stayed the same (or maybe even went a little higher) as an overdrive.

The 12 gearing on the 9SX was a typo on Buell's website a few months ago. Barker made a list of all the various little typos and sent it to Court, who then proceded to get the webmaster fired. : )

(Just guessing on the termination of the webmaster : ) )

Andrewwegbert - actually, we were told at the track that 118 equals rev limit in *third*, not second.

It's possible that the tech meant 3rd. I told him that I felt I was going at least 100 when I redlined it in 2nd and he said at redline in 2nd, you're looking at about 110-115. Could be he was tired or didn't understand me correctly. Either way my impression of this bike just blows my socks off! I'll accept 118 in 3rd. Pardon my misinformation if I'm wrong. That's what makes this forum great, we can compare the information we gather and come up with conclusions. Either way we're talking motorcycles and to me not many things get my rev limiter up as much. Keep blazing the asphalt fellas!

What are the gear ratios?

It is possible something like 110 in 2nd, 118 in 3rd; 8% difference.

This is a silly question. If "fast" is what it's about, buy a Busa, or Ninja 1400.

I rode it at Cresson and had it to 130mph in 3rd with rpm left, I would guess 175mph top gear redline.

I have no idea about the true top speed, but if the aerodynamics live up to the hype and hope....we might be surprised about the top speed and the time (or lack thereof) it takes to get there.

With the windy conditions at Track day at Road America I had the R at 137MPH between turns 2 and 5, 5th gear!!!! It felt really stable but I wasn't!!!!

A guy with his kid stopped by my house trick-o-treating on Halloween and saw my Buell. He said his good friend is a test driver for them at the GM proving grounds in Arizona, where HD does a lot of testing. He said his friend was topping out at 205mph on a pre-production bike. I'm sure it will be downgraded for the highway.
