Is it a catalytic converter as well?
Seems like a lot of the liquid cooled bikes now have catalytic converters that act as mufflers to pass the newest emission standards.
Anyone know anything about this?
If it is, it'll weigh a ton, and by fitting an after market exhaust should make this bike absolutely anorexic.

The exhaust isn't light, until you compare it with the OEM exhaust on any other sportbike. Then it seems anorexic. A racing system will still take quite a few pounds off. There are no catalysts in US models, and a small one for Europe.

So can we expect a factory race kit?

Not likely... As far as I can tell new laws in America would prohibit that...

Please correct me if I'm wrong : ).

Oooh...now you're talking!

What about and 1125R with Ohlins forks and shock, that is delivered with an "off road" exhaust and ECU in a box. : )

Very unlikely I'm afraid. We are just so busy these days that I wouldn't have the time to prepare a racer and travel to all the meetings.
The bike would be eligible for Sound of Thunder racing and for Superstock next year in the UK, so I hope that some people will race them over here. It would be great to see a well supported dealer/importer team at National superstock level that's for sure.

Well at least that's the case and not..."we've not enough business to get a bike together"

No doubt.
I'm not sure what's going on over here with regards to racing one.
I know a couple of racers that were going to try racing an XB12R next season, privateer with little sponsorship I'm afraid. I'm hoping to here they're gonna get one of these to race next season.
The XB12R is kind of out powered in the classes it's eligible for.
This is a chance for winning races on a near stock Buell, if there ever was one.

Even if the muffler is heavy.. The whole bike is still pretty dang light!

My question is --- Sound!??? Thats what a V-twin is about!

Even like the weird sound of a BMW Boxxer engine.

The exhaust ends look like a stainless steel over/under shotgun poking out

I like the exhaust system as it is.

But Buell should offer slash cut tips as an option.
I think a side exit slash cut tip would really look cool.

Im no tech, but the sound is coming from a rotax (same as Aprillia) motor, so your not gonna get the classic harley potatoe sound.

On my XB12R the oem can weighed 23lbs, went with a jardine that weighed 4lbs and it made the world of differance.

I think all the manufactures will be quick to release an after market exhaust

They started the bike up at the homecoming even though they said they couldn't. It is super quite. Then again they just let it idle.
I am concerned about the exit of the exhaust. It lets out right in front of the swingarm. Not sure if this would cause problems but I have to think it is going to heat up the right side of the swingarm considerably.

Mr. Buell made mention at Homecoming that he's not a fan of loud exhausts because it attracts government regulation by a-hole politicians looking for "a victim". In other words, some people complain about the noise and some politician is all too eager to pass a law. Keep our heads low and stay out of the spotlight so we can continue to enjoy motorcycling. He also said there are after market options, although they are breaking the law and didn't appear to think too highly of that, either. He really did a great job with his presentation. It would be nice if someone had a transcript or audio recording.

Anybody know where i can get a nice Aprilla sound clip? Preferably a nasty sounding aftermarket one... Are they raspy sounding or pitchy like the liter bikes?

They first time I heard a aprilla with "race" pipes @ the gap. I almost pissed my pants.

I also like a loud RC-51!

They sound great, V-twin baby!

Shais,

Not like any Aprilia or prior Rotax at all since prior Rotax twins were 60o V-Twins. In the video on www.Buell.com, the new Buell/Rotax 72o V-Twin sounded very hot-rod Buellish to me. Of course, I've never heard a twin cylinder four stroke motorcycle that I didn't like. : )
