Ducs some of the are too $$$

If Buell wants to compete with other v-twin liquid cooled bike of the 11-14k price range the'd better come with good suspension.

If I am not mistaken an Aprilia Mille "Factory" is about 18k and the standard Mille is about 14K retail.... I think Buell will be very competitive in the 11-13K range.

What's wrong with the Showa units.
Better than most, maybe not as good as Öhlins, but at least they're good enough to race with.

...and Buell has always been about handling, if nothing else. I don't think we have to worry.

We're looking at the street version. And that street version has a LOT more room for growth (in regards to the track) than the old air-cooled mill. With this bike, Buell can now compete on the world stage since World Superbike recently allowed 1200cc twins for 2008. Will Erik try to compete in his first year? Who can tell, but I'll be watching!

Imagine if the first American-held leg of World Superbike in years is held with an American superbike on the grid???

Yes. . . please do imagine that.

Buell has always had one of the most respected suspension systems in the market place. I'd suggest that well less than 1% of the people who ever sit aboard this bike will approach the capability of the suspension.

For those that do, I suspect you can pick up tons of race parts and still have enough change from the price of a 1098 to spend a year doing track days.

Not . . . altogether bad news I'd say.

OH NOOOOO....

I kicked the chain lube 'habit' since my first 1999 Buell M2, I don't want to go back.

Holy crap - how I would love to see an American bike compete and win.

And please do not repeat the VR1000 mess. Though from what I have read about Erik Buell that is the last thing he would allow to take place. This time he is in charge.

The only other bike in that catagory/price range is the Honda RC51 at $11,995. It's a great bike but kinda heavy, comparatively underpowered and it hasn't been updated in the last six years.

I think the 1125R is going to own a big sweet spot all to itself.

checked cycletrader and the low price is around 13-14k a few are priced in the high end

What's wrong with the Showa units.
But the other bikes in the same class come with the higher end Ohlins. Value! Granted most will never push there bike to the limits to benifit from 3k worth of shocks. But they make for a smooth quailty ride. The Buell will need to be properly priced. Thats my point.

rc51 Is a old design. But its proven. Bugs worked out. Mods available. etc etc. Honda probably has a new version in the works.

Just hope the new Buell is price competive, allows for easy DIY maintance, and is easly moddable.

DIY maintenance, and is easily moddable

I've been able to do ALL of the maintenance on my 996.Not too difficult there. It isn't rocket science after all.And if people think it is well, the service department at your local dealer may be a better choice.

Mods.??? These things SHOULD be ENGINEERED right in the first place.Which i think they are. What kind of mods do you mean??

Comparing used bike prices of an RSV Factory to the new bike price of the 1125R? Not an honest comparison in my view.

The base model RSV comes with Ohlins suspension? I know the RC51 doesn't.

It may have showa units but in the video they look distinctly different than the current parts. The caps look like the ohlins superbike fork caps.

Mods.??? These things SHOULD be ENGINEERED right in the first place.

+1 Ducxl. MOST 'mods' done to the XB's have proven to be detrimental over time. the bike is designed to work with itself from the beginning. the major reason the odie/drummer pipes work without hurting the bike is that they are fabbed from stock parts. all my 'mods' are factory now. proseries muffler, ecm, suspension. motor bone stock. put an R top triple on my S. the only thing on it that isn't Buell is my Corbin seat, and that thing doesn't fit right, even though it gives me the seating position/feel i want. i had other mods at one time, and they did nothing but give me trouble.

all that being said, i'd imagine that the new 1125R is gonna be ready to go right out of the box and there won't be much need for aftermarket until the Ruff Ryders and groups like them start chroming them out. : )

speaking from experience, i know guys with 35K and 50K miles on their XBs and they only have "factory" mods. (ie, Buell pro-series equipment, oil, oil filters, etc.)

That tells me to buy an 1125R, see what Erik and the Elves offer for "performance upgrades", tape it up and take it to the track. : )

If that was true. But as always you don't get the facts correct. www.cycletrader.com has NEW RSV Factorys for a great price.

Mods.??? These things SHOULD be ENGINEERED right in the first place.

Simple stuff like a muffler, air filter, taller windscreen, adjustable bars or foot pegs..

Just seen the MSRP and it seams more than fair. These will sell like hotcakes. Just not my cup o tea.

"New"? What model year? What is the out the door price?

Been meaning to ask you, what do you have against black paint/bodywork? Certainly you have been educated that black is the only color for a real motorcycle. : )

About that RC51, I sold the X1 and bought an RC. I can't fall in love with it. I like it, it's faster and handles better than the X1 did but it doesn't create the stupid grins and crazed giggling the Buell did. Maybe it's because it's bone stock but I think it may also be that it just doesn't feel American. An Acura NSX and a Corvette have similar limits but create completely different sensations. I miss the X1 more often than I thought I would.

I've owned a Black Dodge Charger (old school not the new 4 doors crap), Black Camaro z28 Supercharged Lt1, Black Cavailer, and now a Black ML430.

Black paint is hard to keep in perfect polished shape. Fine scratches show up too easy. Black paint heats up in the sun and requires more frequent waxing. Yes black looks awesome. Just requires more effort.

Rather ride a Buell. But you gotta admit that the Aprilla RSV factory offers a good value.
