Scoff if you want--or try to throw us off track. But I have no reason to doubt my sources.
Besides I am feeling the need for a new bike--have not bought a new bike since my S-2 in 1995. So show me what ya got, Mr. Buss.

Not sure I believe the Bussman's source. Rumor is that the folks at Buell have been way too busy to even think about having time for a haircut. : ]

Fireman Jim,

Sorry to blow up your friend's reputation, but what he says he saw does not in any way exist, not even by a stretch. Time will tell whether you can trust your friend in other ways, but I am sure that you won't see what he claims he saw. And I'm sure he didn't see either, 'cause it doesn't exist.

Just finished reading "PoweRRing the future" in Fuell mag and after reading that one would only assume there will be a short stroke large bore XB (air/oil cooled) engine coming soon.

To me it reads like the XBRR DNA will be the future of Buell bikes.

Buss, that's ok cuz I have heard the tidbits from several trusted sources.
And I for one,am hoping for a new motor.
And I seem to remember when we were told there was no connection between Buell and the VRod motor.

Course I guess I could just redo my S-2 for the umpteenth time.
Or put somelights on the turbo monster Buell I am curently building??????

Sometimes the trolling is to get enough info to clearly identify your source. Be true to your school dude.

"And I seem to remember when we were told there was no connection between Buell and the VRod motor."

I think the statement made was that Buell would not be using the V-Rod motor on account of it was/is too big and too heavy.

Headlights on the turbo-nitro 100" beast? Heck yeah, you don't want it gathering dust in the off-season do you?

Actually, you really ought to give road racing a try. Enter that beast in whatever class it fits and frighten all competition out of your way.

Not only did they say that Blake but the motor would out price the bike. There fore making it way to expensive.

Only HD could build on overweight engine with 1980s power that would cost too much for a 12k motorcycle.

I'm liking the lump more all the time.

I heard Buell was building motorcycles again next year, and have plans to continue.
Unreal!
Think it could be true?

I stopped at the local chop shop this morning and got in a discussion about the new S&S Wedge engine.

It got me to thinking, all the resources (money) that HD has, and S&S is putting more engineering into the product to keep the V-Twin characteristics while eliminating the major shortcomings with the HD engines.

That led me to think about how frustrating it must be to be a Buell employee with a thousand great ideas, and to have to get approval from HD. Harley makes money hand over fist without any innovation. Why would such a successful culture have any desire to chase performance and innovation? It would not even makes sense to expect Harley to want to take that path. They stick with what they know and what they know makes them money every year.

Anyway, I'm going to enjoy the lump and the Buell chassis. I primarily want a Buell performance engine because I want to see an American company build a bike that brings a more mainstream rider in to buy US bikes. I also want to see Buell succeed on a larger scale, like Triumph and KTM.

Maybe the big secret will be a more splayed cyl. arrangement such as the S&S ,after all it is going to be a "Buell specific" motor, right?
I have heard S&S has had a good deal of success getting the new motor to make some impressive numbers, although they are mostly big inch motors. I understand the primary reason for splaying the cyl. was to keep the pistons pushing on the crank through more degrees of rotation?

I think it also allows deeper finning to improve cooling without having to resort to liquids...

H-D understands demographics and knows that there are few buyers younger than the Baby Boomer Generation buying their bikes. They must tap into the sport bike generation or their market will be no longer.

"and knows that there are few buyers younger than the Baby Boomer Generation buying their bikes"

Might want to check those numbers. They don't stay successful by building what doesn't sell.

I take a certain amount of issue with this also. Sportbikes have been around for some 20+ odd years, and it's had little impact on HD...

He means that HD has a strong market with baby boomers now, but that demographic is aging and will not be buying bikes in 10 - to 15 years.

Like Cadillac, you have to start trying to build what the next generation wants, or you go the way of Oldsmobile. The customers just get old and die and no one replaces them.

I've talked to more sportbike owners looking to get a cruiser than I have cruiser owners looking to get a sportbike, many of them nowhere close to being in the babyboomer age group.

In 10-15 years from now I still plan to be buying and riding bikes. And I guess I'm included in the taildust of the boomer generation. When I was younger the baby boomers were a few years ahead of me, but now according to published reports I have somehow caught up with them and am now included in their age groups. Kind of like they widened the rope a bit, sort of.

Dealerships loose more customers due to bad customer service than they do to death and old age. Think about it.

I agree.

I'm betting that Harley-Davidson has not racked up 61 quarters of INCREASED earnings (not just staying the same but going up) each quarter (including the most recent quarter) without having a pretty fair take on their market demographic.

It's going to change and unless I miss my guess there are a team of folks, under the lead of a native New York who's been at HD for years, who are planning 7 years out.

I'd bet on HD.

I'll bag on many things about Harley being half-assed, but marketing is not one of them. There is no stronger brand recognition and loyalty that I know of.

I am currently monitoring a little HD/Buell undertaking in Dubai, UAE.

I'd say the enthusiasm is pretty widespread as well.

How does that saying go?
"How many companies have customers tattooing the company name and logo on their bodies?"

Dubai? Dealership, or test market?

I got that information from "The Enthusiast" a few years back. H-D admitted that in 10 years of studying who was purchasing their bikes, that very group had gotten 10 years older. Perhaps that has changed?

I must be one of the few bucking the trend. After 10 years and over 100,000 miles on Harleys, I purchased a Buell. Now with over 140,000 miles on two wheels, I can't imagine going back to a cruiser any time soon.
