Not a stitch of “new info” in that article, basically boiler plate press release of a rebranded, slightly repainted 2008 1125r and barely changed 1190r and 1190 sx.... love how the writer talked about GAS IN THE FRAME like it’s was brand new technology.... second, 8500rpm IS NOT A SCREAMER... third, I guarantee the “dirt bike” will never be in showrooms and available to the real public!

No one has asked the most important question yet:

Are they going to bring back the Blast? I loved mine.

Harley does not have the ability to build that motor anymore.all that equipment is long gone, and yes I love my blast also!

This is not an HD project, so it would be a clean slate if you wanted to bring back a smaller entry bike. Personally I wouldn't think a single would be the way to go. It might be easier to source a smaller displacement twin, but even easier still to source an electric drive platform. That way, you don't have to bother with the expense of EPA and CARB certs for an engine. Most entry riders don't ride all day anyway.

Erik said they had a mid-displacement twin nearly ready to go (maybe in the testing phase) when Hero jerked the rug out from under EBR. LAP/Buell should have all the plans for that but it would still be a huge effort for them to put that into production. Steve Anderson and others have dropped tidbits over the past few years about that one.

I think those twins you reference had sneak peek in the 2015 documentary film "The Razor's Edge". There is a camera shot of some bikes in assembly at 36:24 in the film. Could those be the twin powered 250s?

I think those bikes were prototypes for the modern 250 they designed for Hero. Despite all EBR did, which was basically everything but put the bike into production, Hero didn’t manage to finish it.

I would agree but in the announcements of the investment by Hero, EBR was to be the US distributor for that bike, and other Hero products. I recall "anonymous" reports here that it ate the 250 Honda for lunch. I was unaware of a mid sized twin from EBR on the board. So much potential....
I wish those NDAs would expire, so the insiders could speak freely.

Here’s a couple of posts from Steve Anderson about the original plan for this bike at Buell and how it evolved at EBR:

Keep reading the thread for more info.

Erik also mentioned it in a Cycle World interview shortly after EBR went into receivership. I’d love to see the new iteration of the company build it, but I doubt they have the engineering staff or funding to pull it off.

"..I doubt they have the engineering staff or funding to pull it off." Funding might simply be a willingness on the part of the owner of the company to invest.
Re. engineering, I'll bet there is a good team in Mukwonago that could bang it out pretty quickly as a subcontractor.

From my July 18, 2017 post . . .

quote:

I'd seen the early triple sketches, not the twins but the thing that most captivated me was Erik's enthusiasm for the platform. He has a keen sense of what "puts a pulse in a persona pants" . . . and, given the talent pool working on it . . . I get excited just thinking about it.

I recall how nervous Erik got when I took photos of the design.

Steve Anderson Tweeted this today, so I figure it’s public domain. Behold the Buell triple that could have been:

I remember how nervous Erik got when I took all the pictures of the original concept drawings . . . Erik was really excited about the triple and it's one that I am sorry we never got to see.

I've got to ask; was the frame also the cylinder head? And is that the exhaust outlet curving forward under the engine?

Maybe Court can remember. Then again, this was an early concept sketch, so details undoubtedly changed.

Interesting nonetheless. That cylinder head almost can't be right, but would love to hear differently.

Anyway. I'm bummed out on pretty much a monthly basis that things went they way they did for Buell. What could have been.

It looks to me as if a partial frame including the headstock bolts to the top of the cylinder head, replacing the valve/cam cover. It’s not that different from how Vincent’s were arranged. I guess you’d have to split the bike to do a valve adjustment, but that might not be hard at all.

The curved forward object at the bottom of the bike could also be an air intake. The motor definitely looks to be water cooled, at least the heads. I would bet that the valve cover doubles as a heat exchanger for coolant. The fuel in frame concept could be continued in the volume under the seat, that leaves the dark area above the spring behind the head to serve as a giant airbox I don't understand flow mechanics that well, but air moving through the lower intake duct might also be used to scavenge hot air away from the heat exchanger and out the back. I recall seeing a Buell patent about using the swingarm as a muffler. I figured it would be for the dirt bike, but I could picture the other end of that collector connecting to the swingarm, The only thing I haven't figured out a (purely speculative) explanation for, is where the drive belt/chain or rear brake goes. I see what looks to be a sprocket or rotor peeking through on the other side of the wheel. Making one part do multiple things is also a Buell/EBR trait. I suppose it's possible on a ZTL system to make the sprocket do double duty as a brake rotor too.

There was a nice write-up in RoadRacingWorld about Buell Motorcycles (New) with a nice statement about it not being associated with Eric Buell. It was done very well. RRW is a great publication.

Here is the link if interested. https://www.roadracingworld.com/news/buell-is-back /
