Really good news. American Sport Bike Night isnt dead either. 20 years a Buell group celebrated last night. Rex Chaney passed on the good news about EBR to us. Wish there was something we could do to help you.

Personally, I dislike this last paragraph.

"Melvin and his father, Bill Melvin Sr., are motorcycle enthusiasts & industry experts with involvement in the sale process of the Cannondale Motorcycle factory, the Indian Motorcycle factory in 2004, the American Ironhorse Motorcycle factory in 2009, the Buell factory in 2010, and have assisted in the sale of major distributors, dealers, and suppliers."

All that tells me is that they sell motorcycle companies, not that they're passionate about motorcycles.

The approach is to keep it boutique and high performance driven, ala Bugatti, Koenigsegg, or Lotus,

OK so the brands moving uptown.. Cool, that should bump the value of the legacy EBR bikes up a notch, like owning an old Morgan. ( perhaps I'm too optimistic on that.)
Whether Erik is part of the current project or not, his name is (figuratively) all over the product, and the official EBR commentary. The bottom line is the machine itself is an amazing work, and still made in the USA. I hope they sell enough to need to order more parts before they move on to the mentioned other models.

Maybe an AX will come out after all?

Mentioned in this review from 10/13/17.

https://www.webbikeworld.com/ebr-1190sx-preview/

I wonder where that came from...

I dont think well ever see the AX unless by some miracle EBR becomes a mainstream full-production manufacturer at some point in the future. Comments were made by various people at EBR that the AX was not going to be an 1190 with a different sub-frame and suspension, but an all-new platform. It would take a huge amount of investment and engineering to get that to production.

The bike that was in the works that Id love to see was the middleweight naked bike. Erik mentioned that it was close to being complete shortly after EBR entered receivership and Steve Anderson has posted about here since then.

For right now Im just happy any bikes are getting built.

Remember the way Erik modified his own SX? THAT'S the bike I'd like to see. More relaxed (but still sporty) ergonomics. I don't care about (nor need) a lowered seat height. I would like to see lockable hard luggage though.

Sport touring really seems to be back on the upswing so it's time...

I have to agree with Jaimec. An SX that's built like that would be a pretty sweet ride to take to the Arctic Ocean. Or even to ride to the supermarket to get milk and bread before it snows out.

A Black Lightning with hard bags...Hey; I might win the Lottery. Maybe I should buy a ticket.

Owens,

"Is Erik still with EBR? Or did he just go off and retire?"

Care to rephrase that? It comes off as incredibly dismissive and belittling of what the man has invested, what he stands for, and all his amazing efforts over the past three plus decades, not to mention the obstacles and sabotage he was forced to navigate.

What have you done for the last three decades? How much payroll has your business generated for people?

It boggles my mind how anyone could meet this news with anything but enthusiasm and support.

It's a great idea. Take an existing world class superbike, and go all out on build quality and finish, take it from production to show bike levels of clean, fit, and finish. Sell it for a premium.

Continue quality-engineering as possible.

No, not exactly. He's at Vanguard Spark now. Definitely not at EBR any longer, not since Feb or March of 2018 afaik, but I don't have a real inside track kind of information.

Jamie/Crusty, a comment on facebook by the EBR page made it sound like they have a Black Lightning coming out, without the low suspension, so basically an all blacked out SX. No idea about the tall handlebars or if it has the bigger sprocket.

Someone asked "Black Lightning? Maybe... someday?"

EBR responded -

quote:

Black Mamba.
Same without the low suspension.

There was another comment from EBR that said there are three different builds:

quote:

Specialty builds:
1: RX Stripes & Stars
2. RX Eriks SuperSix
3. SX Black Mamba

I'm looking for more details

Bill Melvin just wants to sell his remaining parts. There is nothing altruistic in his motives. In point of fact his actions just piss me off.

Yes; I agree with you. I was told by someone who was working at EBR that when LAP pulled the plug, there were buyers who had made deposits on the "Forthcoming" Black Lghtning. Interest in EBR was building among enthusiasts and the future was looking brighter. Then, when it was time to buy the parts, Melvin refused to write checks and shut it all down.

Still, I remember how good the 1190 SX felt when I took that "extended" Demo ride in Springfield, or when Froggy let me take his SX down Rt.60 in Georgia and I still would love to have one.

In my case, it's all a pipe dream. I really doubt I'll be able to afford one. But it's nice to dream about.

That is 100% aligned with my opinion. I am not even sure Erik, or any of The Elves, is even aware of this.

I can't fault Melvin . . . who is knee deep in this thing. . . for trying to do the best he can . . but to call this "EBR restarting production" is as genuine as the Roy Orbison Halogram concert I just saw. Weird . . just weird.

The greater challenge is going to be making the few bikes that they put together consistent and I suspect buyers enthusiasm for an expensive product with parts of dealer support will be tepid at best.

Kind of a shame. The design of the EBR bikes is pure genius.

Just another interesting chapter to the story.

With the bikes LAP is going to assemble, it's going to take a long while, if ever for Melvin to get his money back that he laid out to purchase EBR.
Has to be an interesting story why all of the real principles jumped ship.
The bikes are just not EBR's without Erik.

Crusty, I saw a used 2015 SX on Facebook earlier this week for $4500. No details (address, dealership, etc.) were listed or I'd pass them along. That may be a typical price for a used one.

"The bike only has 20 Miles on it. Closest to new you will ever find. You would be the FIRST OWNER!! The bike is a BEAST! Peck horse power 185 Hp at 10,000 Rpms. ET-V2: V twin. A MUST SEE!!! Please stop by Burnouts 1530 Patton Ave or Call our office at 828-252-2611"

http://burnoutsofasheville.com/view/538/Grey-2015- EBR-SX1190

The bike was dropped on the left side, I saw on FB somewhere that they claimed they replaced the broken peg/signal/lever, but the bodywork is still scratched. They say $4500 on facebook. Very tempting.

The guy that owns Burnouts posted the $4500 price on Facebook, I'm not sure why their website doesn't match.

I emailed the RS guy a few days ago, no response, I was expecting at least a broken English message from Nigeria but got nothing.

Your response is likely about 3 notches better than you'd get if you had a problem on an EBR in Wyoming at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon.

I think the bike is pure genius.

But . . in all candor it's not a dated design with pretty close to zero support.

I'm as big a fan as anyone . . . but if you are in the "touring all over the place and back" like Crusty . . . the last thing you want is a bike without a support system.

Just a fact.

I emailed the actual owner of the RS and got a response. He had it listed on eBay at one point for $22,500 and he's in Michigan. He said that was his only time listing it and he hasn't done any classifieds ads with it.

Trying to decide if I want an EBR problem in Montana
