All kinds of stuff still around when I was there yesterday. Worth anything to you? that would depend.
some things are in boxes with part numbers - bring a reference unless you can tell what it is by looking at it.
Some surplus. Some R&D or testing parts. Some plastics etc. set aside in production due to scratches, cracks or other flaws.
Jim did mention there were some crate 1125 motors he was 'really cutting' the price on.
Probably 30 sets of new 1190 forks and a bunch of headlight assemblies caught my eye.

If I remember correctly, Jim quoted me $800 for the pair. Since I was just picking up stuff for 'accident insurance' that was a little rich for just sitting on the shelf - to me. YMMV.
Anyone know if the sale is still on?

Getting them to WA would be the same as when I sent the Firebolt stuff to Race Tech. Couple of packing boxes from Home Depot and a bunch of bubblewrap.

LAP advertised that parts on their list had prices cut in half starting on July 10. I don't know if they're also cutting prices on the stuff lying around the factory or not.

the 50% off prices are good only for orders of $2000 and up. It's also only good for the parts deemed "Excess to ongoing needs of EBR". I called Marissa to confirm.

On that note, I'm willing to chip in on a $2000 order with some parts I want. I'm local as well, so can pick up parts and would be willing to ship them to people. Payment would need to be arranged up front. PM me if interested.

I'll check on fit but maintenance items specifically brake rotors and if it is half off the forks or 150 then I would be into the package buy. 1125 forks? Same as XB12SS?

If anyone's interested, they have a bunch of 1125 and 1190 engines listed on eBay right now, but they're all in questionable condition, with no warranty or any kind of guarantee that they're at all serviceable.

What is the user name on eBay they are selling under? Or a link to listing? Also is there a list of items available from buell at the rummage sale? Have a 2003 xb9s that I would like to get some backup parts for. Kind of a newb and not really sure what I should look for if anything would be available. Bike has 15,*** miles and just had it in for maintenance at local shop. Any help would be great and if still possible to get in on group but would be great.

Note- it says the engines are in Grand Rapids, MI, which I believe is LAP's HQ location.

The first motor on the listing, the one thats $600 has the WORLD SBK exhaust on it. It might be one of the blown engines.

Seeing this stuff just rips the guts out of me. I have no issue with the people who are buying, or wanting to buy the various items, but it really hurts to watch as the LAP vultures pick the bones clean.

I'm not trying to rain on anybody's parade, but I felt that I had to say that since it does bring out such strong emotion in me.

Crusty, I've felt the same way as you for a while now.

Ace, that might be an AMA race header setup on there. They look like the Tullet headers, not the Arrow setup.
WSBK was using an Arrow system most of the time, due to a couple reasons - noise and routing due to WSBK rules. The headers had a different shape and routing to them. The tell-tale is the rear header as well as the diameter of the header at the collector.
Either way, might be a dyno mule.

I don't hold anyone from LAP to task . . after all they are in the BUSINESS of stripping things to the bone and selling them in whatever fashion they can to extract value from bankrupt firms They have never, in their history, done anything differently.

My pain is knowing what HERO did and how close a couple deals came to kicking thing through through the uprights.

I also feel for some of the owners who are finding their assurances in "laws" that don't exist and in promises made by a "liquidator" . . . there's that word again.

The Elves of Buell and EBR are long gone and the folks I'd trust to provide me the assurances I'd want have precisely zero to do with making any decisions.

My heart also goes out to folks who think they are buying some sort of excess "merchantable" parts when in fact some of them are just as likely, and the fine print absolves them if they are, to be pure useless junk. There is no "fitness for purpose" (required by law . . yeah, a real law . . for things being sold by a manufacturer) either implied or imputed. It make be a motor, it may be a bookend. I'd bid accordingly all the time aware that the folks writing most the descriptions wouldn't know a valve from a bar end weight and turn right around and tell you that they are not responsible.

The saving grave is that there were damn few bikes built and parts were WAY over ordered during the time cash appeared plentiful (and there was talk of building 10,000 bikes a year) under HERO..

Good pic, Ace...I don't think I'd seen that one.
That is the Tullet system, with the underslung muffler - same as the AMA superbikes. Those are the Taleo 1190RS radiators as well. I think the WSBK team only ran that at one or two races due to the noise level, then went to Arrow.

Ultimately, you're right, Court, about Hero.

promises made by a "liquidator"
I think that people are justifiable in their frustration when a company comes in, acts like and tells the Court (no pun intended) and the customer base that they have a 5 year plan for motorcycle production and development, and then shuts the whole shebang down inside of 2 years. That's the kick in the dingy of it all.

Sure they're a liquidator, who make a living on liquidating company assets. We call get that, I think.
No one was ready for the dream to end yet.

2 years? Try 1.

Had doubts about Bruce but hoped for good. Had severe doubts about Melvin and that just seemed to end up where i expected. Looked to me like he was playing used car salesman hoping to convince other investor/flipper, easy money types, to "Take this gem off my hands". Now it's time for him to pull the carcass apart.

The huge parts supply could end up in a recycle dumpster if he decides they're worth more in weight.

You got fooled by the Bruce decoy as well . . . don't feel bad . . . many did.

Melvin came in to liquidate. . . . the 5 year plan was part of their liquidation plan . . the Court knew this . . the trustee knew this and it was the subject of public documents.

Melvin, as Erik said over and over, was a top notch fellow, a true enthusiast, with good intentions. What he (likely, as I do not know for certain) did NOT anticipate were ZERO bids on anything.

It's a tough time, globally, in the business and trying to sell champagne ($45,000) bike to a group of enthusiasts on a beer budget (once a bike hits $10K the entire market changes) is tough in good times . . . and impossible with the "donor firm" has left owners, dealers and enthusiasts stranded alongside the commercial road a couple times. The dealers that came aboard ranged from great to ragged. Unsure of the situation, I did my old trick of simply picking up the phone and calling them (this used to REALLY piss Harley-Davidson folks off) and found, upon asking "do you carry EBR?". many "huh?..what? . .let me check" answers. Not the basis for inspiring a lot of confidence. Most dealers, having had the rope cut above their heads in the past . . took on EBR with a very guarded . . "we're not putting ourselves on the line and will see what happens" stance.

Nothing here should detract from the many folks with good intentions or the fact that the EBR was an incredible piece of engineering . . . it was simply a wonderful answer to an unasked question.

My personal gauge . . . as things evolved and plans were made. . . was "what do dyed in the wool Buell enthusiasts do?" Do they BUY the motorcycle? It bothered me, with years of enthusiasm, that so many of us with years of impulse Buell buying . . often for multiple bikes were huddled on the sidelines. Was our advanced years or simply that the events had taken the wind out of our sails?

Owners? . . . They talked . . . .

They talked about buying if they got their I.R.S. refund . . . if their wives got that job and it they could get $7,000 for the used Suzuki.

They talked a lot . . . but damn few reached for the crank that turns the commercial wheel . . . and bought.

They talked about waiting on the ever-elusive AX, they talked about waiting on a street fighter and they talked about the wisdom of racing . . . . and all the time they were talking the $100,000 a week payroll needed to be met.

HERO helped for a while and, had they met their commitments for the work, unrelated to EBR, it would have made a huge difference. EBR had turned away from motorcycle design and manufacturing (only a few folks were involved in working on stuff for you and I . . . and that was as it should be) and morphed to a really great engineering team of nearly genius level engineers and innovators. This became the commercial light at the end of the tunnel until HERO played stupid.

Erik Buell has the highest personal and business principles and level of honesty I have ever experienced in 43 years of business. When HERO played dirty, I was proud of him having the balls to tell them to go screw themselves. The bastards, having coaxed him and some damn fine folks onto the corporate teet, tried to extort work under the "continue or we'll break you". They took his money, his company and part of his dream but they didn't put a single dent in Erik Buell's ethics. Fvck'em.

But . . . today there isn't a shred of anything Buell or EBR left behind. The building is, or soon will be, empty. What little remains will head to Michigan and the Elves will scatter do to Johnson Controls, Generac and so forth. The idea that someone is going to fund some ongoing effort to keep EBR owners on the road is the current "dream of the faithful".

As I said earlier . . . the only saving grace in this is the result of a major tactical error. During the early stages of the "HERO reign" there was some "we can save by ordering in bulk" thinking and insane quantities (based production of about 100x what really got built) of parts were ordered. This glut, insuring supply far exceeds demand at the current auction, may serve owners well going forward.

I maintain that the thing that would comfort me . . . were I riding into the night or toward the arctic circle on a bike with no dealers, customer service and iffy parts availability is the resourcefulness of the few folks who have purchased EBR units and that glut of parts floating around somewhere. I suspect some of them (like some of the 1125 stuff that disappeared :-) ) will find it's way to the market as the need arises.

Could very well be wrong . . . . we'll see.

Remember that at least part of the reason for that were the rules for new model homologation when EBR entered WSBK. They were expecting to have to build a LOT of RX's. Here's the rules according to a post by former Badwebber Trojan prior to EBR's entry:

quote:

1.2.1 First time application for a homologation

Manufacturers which have never taken part in either of the FIM Superbike World Championship or the Supersport World Championship with any of their eligible models and are requesting either a Superbike or a Supersport
homologation must follow the procedure below:

• The manufacturer must have produced at least a quantity of 125 motorcycles
prior to the homologation inspection. The motorcycle must be on sale to the public at that time.

• The minimum quantity of 500 units must be reached by the end of June of the current year.

• The minimum quantity of 1000 units must be reached by 31st of December of the current year.

• The minimum quantity of 1500 units must be reached by the end of June of the following year.

• The minimum quantity of 2000 units must be reached by 31st of December of the following year.

• All motorcycles must be identical to the model to be homologated with the same specifications.

• Proof of production quantities must be provided by certified documentation as stated in Article 2.9.2.

• The FIM will withdraw the homologation if these rules are not respected.

IIRC, the rules were changed after the start of the season after Dorna was lobbied by another manufacturer (MV Agusta maybe?), and the total quantity required was reduced to only 500.

I think many of the dealers you describe left their bikes crated. 2 years ago when the first fall happened there were many who had pics of their new in crate bikes arriving from one of the dealers clearing their back rooms.

Those waiting on the AX obviously wanted what they hoped it would be more than the current offerings. I can't blame them. No point in buying something that doesn't rev your motor.

If they could see inspiration to "roll their own" they may be able to create one hell of a super adventure bike from the leftover SX.

I watched and waited over the years. I have been happy with the CityX i bought in 2010. The performance of the 1190 sounded fun but justifying the expense to my wallet wasn't logical.

100K a week is insane money to me. I'd have had ulcers with that churning my guts. Before the 'great recession' money was much easier personally but only those above me knew the expenses involved. I don't know if I could have done anything if I knew. I probably just would have loaned them my life savings. I had personally floated the payroll in the past when the company was much smaller. As it went, dealing with a much larger company (sort of like Hero) with it's toxic cesspool of back stabbing power hungry a-holes became their undoing.

One owner, after years of work, has more work than he can handle now. His ethics and work quality have everyone in the area knowing his name. He's another eric by the way. lol Though his is with a C.

Assuming all that inventory of parts stays in a usable form and somehow accessible it could inspire some sales of leftovers. But i still wonder, in order to keep as much value as they can in those pieces, if someone would eliminate say 80% so old list price or better could be made on them due to 'scarcity'.
