According to EBR release last September...

"EBR plans to attend the International Motorcycle Shows in Long Beach, California; New York, New York; Dallas, Texas; and Chicago, Illinois. Show visitors will get to see and learn more about the 2017 models. EBR also will show off selected upcoming 2017 ½ & 2018 model prototypes at different shows.b"

So will we see something at the Dallas show or will they wait until Chicago? My guess is Chicago because of ease of transport from the factory.

Ready, set, discuss....}

The EBR web page mentions the following:
"There is a bright future for EBR, and as part of that work is proceeding on a sub-$10k platform for 2018.”

If they show an all-new bike like that, it will get a LOT of attention. I'm guessing the EBR-designed Hero Hastur isn't far from what this bike will be.

Otherwise, we could see another 1190 platform- the AX, or something else?

My guessing we'll see a version of Erik's personal bike (SX with the Black Lightning pegs/bars, a small windscreen and soft bags). Second would be a smaller displacement SX and RX (something in the 600-650 range).

A Hastur replacement that Hero couldn't screw up would not only be a really cool bike, it would be a nice FU to a company that couldn't be more deserving of one.

Personally I'd rather see the diesel scooter / generator though, but one that will do 65 tolerably in a pinch.

It seems like all of the smaller "cool bikes" are getting into the 800cc range anymore. There's still some 600s around, but when we see a smaller displacement EBR, I'd expect it to be something closer to that. The one reason I could see them coming out with something like a 600cc bike is because of all the work they did for Hero, since a lot of Asian countries have a ton of <600cc bikes, it might be cheaper for them to just put out a bike they've already mostly developed, but probably not cheaper in the long run if it's not gonna sell. I feel like the one exception would be something in the 300cc range considering the recent boom in that category.

How about an xb9s 880 cc redo with lighter AC engine/trans with thin belt. 365 lb vtwin at rw 80hp. Big smiles on that idea.

That would be really interesting. The XB9S was already remarkably agile and light feeling, I can only imagine what it would be like were it actually a light bike.

XB9S redo with less weight? Sounds perfect!

80 RWHP. Belt drive. Air Cooled. 365 lbs. (wet or dry? Dry, I assume). I wonder if this is the sub 10K model? It sounds like Damnut's little birdie wasn't putting him on. It's almost enough to make me want to wait before getting a Black Lightning. Almost, but not quite.

That Black Lightning really spoke to me. I'm going to get one. Still; that "Little" bike sounds like a really sweet ride!

Just a reminder that anon is not a person, it is just a box that is ticked when you post. There is a huge spectrum of reasons why people may choose to use it, and how much mods can do to vet the appropriateness of a particular use.

That leaves a GREAT BIG GREY area. Don't assume that an anon post is any more or less authoritative than any other post.

And don't abuse the anon feature please.

As a true anonymous, I can only say that the post regarding air cooled is not in the works at EBR, nor will it be. That is not an engine we will be developing in this era of emissions standards!

^ I'd be completely good with a new 80 RWHP, belt drive, 365 lb water cooled model.

I was gonna say, as much as I love my S1, I think the days of new air cooled bikes are past us due to emission requirements.

What I wouldn't complain about, is that 100hp Scout/Octane motor in a nice sporty tube frame. I know it wouldn't be the same as a Buell, but for those of us who have no use for 185hp... Even if they made one, I'm sure it'd be much more similar to a modern KTM or Duc Monster than a good old tube framed Buell.

I used to have an XB9S, loved it, but it just wasn't the S1 I always wanted. I know the aluminum frame is "better", but the heart wants what the heart wants...

That Hero bike looks like a Transformer, no thanks, give me back the smooth lines of earlier Buells, not that ragged edge mean robot look : (

Hero on Christmas sponsored a golf thing on national TV. They had that bike on display. Looks like they are gonna be in the USA soon.

According to the article in this thread I started a while back, Hero has given up on putting any of the EBR-designed bikes into production any time soon:

This little air cooled 400cc V-twin Ducati is for the Eur/Asia market but might be an idea upon which Erik has improvements for the USA and the world. A bit larger on the cc, as a water cooled, would be real nice. I certainly like the sound with the replacement Remus muffler. It is nearly $8k and weighs in at 403 wet. There is much room for EBR to improve on those figures.

With a valve train inspired by Rube Goldberg!

Given the location of the rear cylinder, the bigger problem for valve adjustments is probably disassembly. Maybe a good argument for hydraulic lifters.

But even though a 400 is well in the range of what can still be a reliable single, I'd still want the twin. The aesthetics of a twin would be worth the extra maintenance headaches (to me anyway).

The only thing about the 400 Scrambler is it's pretty much identical in size and weight to the 800cc version sold here. I think the 400 is designed to meet tiered motorcycle licensing in some countries. If you're limited to 400cc max, it'd be a pretty cool bike.

So, back on topic- did anyone who went to the Dallas IMS ask if we'll see a promised 2018 model prototype in Chicago?
