I just checked the certification listings for motorcycles at EPA.gov:

https://www.epa.gov/compliance-and-fuel-economy-da ta/annual-certification-test-data-vehicles-and-eng ines

Nothing listed for EBR under 2017; only listing under 2016 is the 1190 used in the SX and RX. I'd guess the manufacturer could request the EPA not to publish results until a new model is released, or it may mean the new model may use the same engine.

That's the sound (whining) an Rx and Sx chain drive makes on deceleration.

Strange. Never heard anything like it on any other chain-driven bike. Oh well, it was nice to fantasize...

Never heard anything like it on any other chain-driven bike.

Yeah, that noise is usually attributed to the tensioner on decel - which the chain drive setup on the engine in the video clearly does not have a tensioner.

Based on Buell's history with turbos (the Diablo codename goes back the X1 turbo project, and for all I know could've been used with the S1 turbos that were kicking around), it wouldn't surprise me if it were a turbo. Notice the different exhaust - at least what can be seen of it. The odd thing is that I don't hear any turbo noises.

Supercharging is a little more specialized to the layout of the engine. Usually there are noises from supercharging as well. And again I hear none.

Honestly, when EBR first posted the video, I presumed it to be a lower price (given the easier to manufacture exhaust), possibly lower displacement version of the engine.

Did anyone else realize that you can save a snapshot of a video and adjust the lighting settings in photo adjusting software to see what lurks in the shadows?

Boosted?

Ain't technology great?

Hmmm... I think the best thing is to analyze the sound and see what RPM it's running at...

The X1 turbo followed the playing with the S1 turbo that Erik rode when he and I were in the wedding party of a Buell couple that took place on the steps of HD

I found all my pics of the XB test mule and the Griffin the other day.

Fun stuff.

I'll bet you there is an old gray haired man playing out in back.

Call it a hunch.

Yeah, that noise is usually attributed to the tensioner on decel - which the chain drive setup on the engine in the video clearly does not have a tensioner.

That sound is, without a doubt, the idler sprocket on the final drive making the "whining" noise when rolling off throttle.
Having heard this powertrain on the dyno dozens of times, I'd bet truck loads of money on it.

"...an all-black EBR 1190SX that sits about an inch lower than before..."

Man am I going to be conflicted this spring. An inch lower will meet my stature, but I so like the X1W I pretty much just got and lowered.

That is a beautiful sight considering where EBR was a year ago. Hope to see them continuing to make improvements, sell bikes, and keep the dream alive! Also, really looking forward to what they have to say about the sub-$10k bike that they have hinted at.

I don't care about the bike being lowered, BUT I am intrigued by having lowered pegs and raised bars (something inherited from Erik's personal bike?).

Now, put on a set of hard bags and a windscreen on the front an you're starting to sing my song...

Before the shutdown in 2015 there was supposed to be a low model of the SX coming out. I have a feeling that is what this new model is.

Looks like I called that one. ; )

From that article "the bike is geared lower for an emphasis on acceleration over top-end speed."

Ha, the SX and RX were just so slow off the line! Will the new model come with wheelie bars?

I gotta say though... I put 60K miles on a Firebolt and then about 700 or so on a 12SCG and that thing was a VERY fun bike and every bit as capable as the Firebolt at lower speeds. I wouldn't ride it more than about 400 miles in a day but damn it was fun : ).

That bike . . .like most the other EBR products . . . would warrant purchase if your only intent was to place it on a mantel and admire it.

The more you look at the brackets, hangers and the multiplicity of uses that individual components, sometimes working in concert, accomplish . . . it reminds me of how damn proud I am of the engineers at EBR.

The Black Lightning . . . which may first appear as something of a cosmetic exercise . . . is in fact the equivalent of the precise tuning that goes into something like an Indy car. Just based on photos . . . I can nearly hear engineers looking at each and every piece and conversations like . . . "I know we optimized it and it's great . . but WHAT can we do to improve it"?

The motorcycle is simply art.

Harry Werth would be thrilled.

Huh? Are you folks kidding?
There is absolutely nothing politically redeeming in the EBR Black Lightning!

It merely fills a void within mechanical minds that seem not to be able to be content with top speeds less than 55 mph.

The new two wheel marque falls woefully short of sensitive transport and projects a most questionable image of political correctness.

I see no need for anyone of good intention and commitment to saving tire tread, to even contemplate such a brutish device.

Therefore, knowing the above, I shall do my best to assure an EBR Black Lightning purchase at my earliest fiscal mind lapse.
