I just hope it isn't another stupid power cruiser and sadly, that is exactly what it sounds like.

Meh. If a 185 HP cruiser keeps the company afloat and producing other bikes they love, more power to them.

(AX AX AX AX AX AX AX AX AX AX...)

(not that I could afford one, and not that I need one with two uly's in the garage, but it would be nice to see other people happy : ) )

I personally would really like to see a "scrambler" style. Not that I'd buy one but I think it would be a hit with the younger demographic

Yea, an EBR bike along these lines would totally suck:

I'm thinking cityx style 1190sx with not as superbike grade components. Tons of ways to cut cost on it. Give me a tuned for torque version with shorter ride height, shorter wheelbase, taller bars and I'll just be doing wheelies every commute. It'd own the fz09/fz10 segment

^^^
I see plenty of room for lowering the current 1190SX. The shorter wheelbase doesn't look to promising with the 1190 motor. But you're probably right about shaving some cost with lesser "components".

It should be an interesting few months as we wait for a prototype to show up at the expos.

I'm also going to go out on a limb...expect a "touring kit" for the SX. Remember the bike up in the air that was at the unveiling of the new EBR? I believe that is Erik's personal bike. Lower pegs, higher bars and decent capacity soft bags (but I'd prefer hard bags)

The pic is a Ducati Diavel, which would likely be the direct competitor of any "power cruiser" EBR might develop. The Duc has 162 crankshaft horsepower and weighs 527 pounds (wet), so it's not quite in freight train territory.

I'm guessing any EBR bike along these lines would use the 185 HP ET-V2, and their bike would weigh about the same, or less than, the Duc.

Now I'm not looking to buy a power cruiser either, but some people are, and I'm sure EBR can come up with one that will be at least as good as the Diavel.

Erik Buell has said on multiple occasions...he is not a cruiser guy. Why would he even come close to a cruiser or even a muscle-cruiser? Not only that, how much of the market uses these kind of bikes? It isn't going to be a power, muscle or any kind of cruiser.

I hope they do something unique because the SX looks like so many other "Transformer" styled bikes. Bring on an AX.
Maybe Buell has an electric bike on tap with the Black Lightning. A fella can dream can't he?

Liquid Assets gets to make that call now.

If they believe that this would be profitable, more power to 'em. An EBR version of the Diavel might be fun. It would also be a nice pile of irony seeing as how HD engineered the VRod engine out of their hands.

LA is the "owner" of EBR yes, however I doubt they have much input to model design or would even suggest to Erik what to build. That would fall into HD territory a la the Blast. I doubt EB would remain in that sort of situation for very long if that was the case.

I disagree that the teasers they teased with were hinting at a cruiser in the first place.

But I still wouldn't be bothered a bit if EBR made a kick-ass sport cruiser if they thought it was a good move in the market. I'm just happy they still exist.

You think they spent the tens of thousands it costs to get into the IMS shows to talk about "what we'd love to do in the future?"

Bring your camera.

My last thought on this "new model"...

EBR is working on a shoestring budget. Unless they have a bike that they feel will be a game changer, I wouldn't expect a large departure from the current configuration. They could possibly change the trail and rack to give the bike a slightly different ride. But the "guts" won't be changed. Still the 1190 engine in the twin-spar frame. Anything different would be too costly at this stage of the game.

Again...just an opinion/speculation.

In So Cal I have seen more Ducati Diavel's running around than EBR Rx or Sx bikes.
Must be a market, otherwise I don't think I would see as many as I do.
Hopefully EBR does have something that can make a dent and get more product out on the street.

Before the shutdown in 2015 there was supposed to be a low model of the SX coming out. I have a feeling that is what this new model is.

Also in SoCal, Erik will be making a Meet & Greet appearance at the newest EBR dealer at Honda Yamaha Redlands for demo rides and an EBR Tech seminar Nov. 16, 2016.

Perhaps some of the questions we have about "Black Lightning", AX & whatnot might get answers before the Long Beach IMS that weekend. Waddya think, sound like fun?

Lightning was always the name for Buells naked bikes. I'm thinking a blacked out version of the SX.

"2015 there was supposed to be a low model of the SX"

All black lowered SX sounds like the most logical choice. Maybe they're bring back some translucent bodywork. I always thought that was a cool touch.

"Lightning was always the name for Buells naked bikes. I'm thinking a blacked out version of the SX. "

That's exactly what I was going to say... from the S1, to the X1, and to the XBS, the lightning has always been the same style bike. I'd expect an SX that's a little lower, maybe a new tail, and a bit better on the bottom end/midrange.

I think it'd be awesome if they were to come out with an Indian Scout styled bike with the 1190 engine, but I completely agree that at this point, EBR is probably stuck using the same frame/engine and general setup so I wouldn't expect anything too drastic at this point.

The Diavel... which I've just never really been able to figure out... even if people are into it, I don't know that I'd refer to it as a bike for urban riders. I've spent enough time living and riding in the city to know that if I was looking for a bike to commute on, that wouldn't be it.

Cross posting this from the EBR forum, IT WAS POSTED BY D_ADAMS. Just wanted to share since it didn't make its way to badweb.

https://www.facebook.com/ErikBuellRa...39138459424 96/

Info I got on that engine dyno run was 220+ hp, mildly boosted. Couldn't get confirmation that it was super or turbo charged (yes, I asked) but it's not naturally aspirated. Keep in mind, they did the same thing with an xb12 years ago, code named "Diablo" and it supposedly made 150+ hp easily at the wheel. EricZ has hit 185+ hp on his xb12, so it's certainly possible, even with a stock motor.

They intentionally cropped the video so you can't see the airbox, so I don't know for 100% how they did it. We'll find out soon enough I suppose

The sound at the end of the dyno run is intriguing... turbine winding down?
