East Troy, WI – EBR Motorcycles (Erik Buell Racing) announces the release of their 2017 model year American Sportbikes and progress with the rebuilding of the iconic motorcycle brand.

“It has been an amazing summer since the new EBR was launched. You can imagine the challenges restructuring the new company, but we have made really nice progress building our base for 2017 to launch this week,” said Bill Melvin, owner of EBR. “Our dealers have had nice success selling bikes this summer and we have many new ones coming on. Our quality is continuously improving, our supplier relationships established, and now we are looking towards the future. This fall we have something ‘Quick, Dark, and Low’ in the works that should be exciting for urban street riders, and we are making real progress on expanding the range of models of the 1190 platform, as well as developing and delivering accessories that our EBR riders want. There is a bright future for EBR, and as part of that work is proceeding on a sub-$10k platform for 2018.”

EBR Motorcycles has many exciting updates that will be seen soon. The 2017 models hit the showrooms this week. EBR plans to attend the International Motorcycle Shows in Long Beach, California; New York, New York; Dallas, Texas; and Chicago, Illinois. Show visitors will get to see and learn more about the 2017 models. EBR also will show off selected upcoming 2017 ½ & 2018 model prototypes at different shows. EBR Apparel will launch within weeks with clothing celebrating the brand, and the team continues international racing as EBR Splitlath with Shelina Moreda at the helm. Along with new products, EBR is reviewing applications for their new Global Sales Director to support and grow EBR’s dealer base organically and through strategic partnerships.

“It’s a great time to ride the only American Sportbike, designed by Erik Buell, and we encourage patriotic Americans to meet these new EBR dealers for a test ride,” said Steve Smith, CEO of EBR. “Of course we had some bumps over the last year, but the road is looking pretty smooth now. It’s exciting to see growth into our next steps and exciting that we can help support the Buell Nation of enthusiasts and riders.”

Dealers, Global Distributors, and riders looking for information on the EBR lineup can visit www.EBR.com or EBR Motorcycles on Facebook.

Interesting- EBR hasn't updated the "motorcycles" section of their webpage yet, but if you go to the "store" section where you can order your bike, they have the 2017 models listed. They have 5 colors listed for each bike. Prices went up a little and there's a price increase above that for some colors.

I'll be very interested to see if they made any changes to the bikes.

Edit- they also apparently added another dealer, I believe in California. They were at 15 last time I counted a couple of months ago and there are 16 today.

Good news.
I'm curious to see what the new model will look like.
A modern City-X?

I plan on going to the Chicago IMS this year and hope to see the new EBR's there. As well as Erik!
I'm actually hoping that they come out with a smaller motor for a city bike something like the City X

‘Quick, Dark, and Low’

I immediately thought of the Ducati Diavel when I read that. I can see EBR doing something like that.

HMmmm... could one shorten the wheelbase by removing the front cylinder, while also lowering the bike, making it lighter, easier to build, still water cooled with only one radiator and a belt drive and about 317 pounds? Definitely a YES for me or the wifey!!!

As much as Erik seems to have hated the Blast, I doubt it.

I think a cash crop motorcycle like a modern Blast would do really well in today's market.

Problem with the Blast was with what HD made them do. Some of the designs they did for Hero looked good and a modern Blast would likely be better received.

I noticed a minor change at EBR this morning, apparently made over the weekend: the pages for the SX and RX now say "EBR Motorcycles gives you the 2017...". Last week they still said 2016.

>and as part of that work is proceeding on >a sub-$10k platform for 2018.”

Any thoughts on an engine for a sub $10K platform? Since it is a new platform and not based on the current platform, likely it will be smaller. Also Buell doesn't have a lot of r&d dollars to do a new motor. 2 thoughts come to mind:

1. Half-A-Helicon. The Blast engine was based on the old motor. Do a "super mono" using the Helicon. That should produce a single of about 590cc and 75-80 hp.

2. An off the shelf Rotax motor like they did in the still born dirt bike line. Rotax certainly has a number of engines Buell might consider.

There was a bunch of new things already in the pipeline before the receivership, it is likely that they had made significant progress before it happened and now it is just finishing it off.
