I find it interesting that an Indian news source seems to be sympathetic to what happened to Erik, although they clearly don't understand it was a deliberate torpedoing by Hero.

It would be really interesting to know how many HX250R's Hero would have sold by now if they'd funded EBR another ~3 months so they could have finished the development of the bike. A year and a half after Hero shafted EBR and they STILL haven't brought this bike to production.

He singlehandedly developed a super bike, EBR 1190 RS, from a mere cruiser engine of Harley Davidson. His efforts were so effective that his bike even overtook some of the Japanese inline 4-cylinder litre class bikes in AMA pro-racing championship.

I had no idea!?

You found one??? Pray tell...

The piece linked above is nothing more than a fantastical account of how an heroic Indian company tried to save a small struggling American company and failed.

WTFO?

Just stumbled upon the following that is somewhat related...

http://canadamotoguide.com/2016/07/21/whatever-hap pened-to-buellhero-projects-well/

The HX250R, a 250-cc sports bike, and Leap, the electric scooter, were nearing completion, and Munjal is now reviewing them.

^ Funny how that story has "evolved" since the receivership. At first Hero said "Oh, this is a minor setback; this may delay us a few months". Then it was "we are working to find new partners and these motorcycles will be completed next year". Now it's "we're reviewing these projects" with no mention of a production date.

Clearly they shot themselves in the foot with an RPG.

>>>Clearly they shot themselves in the foot with an RPG.

Probably an understatement.

While HERO has had many commercial successes over the years many may have resulted in a captive market and a consumer with a fairly diminished tolerance for engineering excellence, reliability and product life.

Some of the products that the EBR team evolved for HERO, and didn't get paid for, held the possibility of cementing HERO on the world market.

But, alas, the Indians lacked the vision and sense of how to actually make things happen. They mistook slapping their name on the side of a WSB as being a "world contender". That's roughly akin to me putting on a Superman costume and thinking I can fly.

EBR had not only the products but the plan . . they could have brought new buyers in . . built relationships and moved them up the product food chain.

Their greed screwed them. They, mistakingly, thought that having stationed a couple dozen engineers in East Troy for a year or so, that they had assimilated the discipline and vision through some sort of osmosis . . . .doesn't work that way.

They, like Harley-Davidson, missed a wonderful chance to firmly place themselves in a new market segment as a leader.

Shame.

But, like my reasons for not being a fan of Keith Wandell, my personal disdain is based on character, not performance. Wendell pulled a fairly low stunt with me that revealed his personal character. The Indians, by not paying their bills and attempting to force Erik's hand, showed their colors as well.

Just me personal opinion.

They should just change their name to something more appropriate. Instead of HERO it should be HAJI.
