Bruce,
Once you get EBR up and running,
1) make a motard/ulyses/ dual sport, heard it was near complete.
2) call Paul jr. Designs, have him design a EBR chopper/cruiser to compete with HD.
3) Erik has a patent on the diesel scooter, that would sell in a lot of foreign countries.

Should be a given.

2) call Paul jr. Designs, have him design a EBR chopper/cruiser to compete with HD.

I think Bruce has said America doesn't need another chopper.

3) Erik has a patent on the diesel scooter, that would sell in a lot of foreign countries.

Interesting thought.

FWIW I'm old enough the current 180 hp, highly focused offerings have little appeal. I'd love to buy a new Buell. But it needs a comfortable seat, humane riding position and real world power. Think of an M2 on steroids.

Make that an S3T on steroids, please.
Shoot for 100,000 mile reliability, too, as some of us ride a LOT.

I suppose so.
Perhaps detune it a bit for longer service intervals and work on the problem areas that the current owners are experiencing.
Fit a flat, comfortable seat for two, a fairing and optional lowers which offer decent weather protection, a center stand and offer optional hard and soft bags.
One bike could hit both the standard and touring categories.

So basically, an 1190 with lower compression, smaller cams, a banana seat, and bags. Reminiscent of a Ducati ST4, Aprilia Futura, etc. I can dig it.

I want a 100 horsepower standard bike.

Think Indian Scout motor with Street Triple chassis. Anyone that has rode either can attest to the strength of both. The Street Triple is compact, upright, well settled and centered. The Indian Scout has a seamless and endless powerband.

YES! But make it look sexy, as MV Agusta has done. MAYBE build a triple. I think I would sell a kidney to own one.... As the triple is my absolute favorite powerplant.

I'd love another version of the S3T. But I don't see that happening. Not enough market for an aggressive sport touring bike. And each year that I get older, the more I want a comfortable bike for longer distances.

And for all those people bitching about pricing of EBR bikes, do you really think they can do a sport or adventure touring bike for under $18K? I'm guessing that would be in the $20-21K range for a bike with all the bells and whistles.

But many of us forget that the S3T was a $14k bike back in 1998! With the average rate of inflation, you're looking at a $20k bike.

The motard market is dull but somewhat untapped. Would love to see an EBR thumper and knock it out of the park. Cheap to build and sell. Problem is who it markets to and product development. A small group of riders. I honestly believe that EBR should be planning a tube chassis bike again for a more affordable model like a "standard" like what the M2 was. Something visually pleasing, simple, raw and sexy. We love to see the mechanicals of the bike and not plastic. You're hiding a possible masterpiece under the all the clothes they wear. The problem is making it look appealing in the get go in order to sell. The market needs something that can be upgraded with off the shelf pieces and not just with a stupid power commander or frame sliders. No matter the rider or brand loyalty, people love to make their bike their own. Just my personal opinion.

Seek unconventional venues,
Go to and display at boat shows, airplane shows, rodeos, beer festivals, football/baseball stadiums.

youtube videos
how to's maintenance,
how to's ride/race stating the obvious different handling characteristics from the normal.
company updates
cool machining process
live video feed of the production floor

wild idea!
call up discovery channel, get your own TV show, trials and tribulations of a American motorcycle company trying to survive in this difficult niche market. Get some build off competitions with other jap bike manufactures.

Another wish,
make a bike to race in the Baja 1000

They need to work with what they have.

KTM Superduke and soon to be Superduke GT are more along the lines of what they are making.

Adv tourer needs to outdo the Multi and the 1190 and 1290 Ktm.

After that another motor could be added.

They need to make bikes that sell.

Can their motor be tuned for more torque for lesser bikes? I am sure it can but they need to stay away from as much red tape as they can.

A new tuber with 140horsepower and 120 foot pounds would be nuts.

Honestly, a sport tourer would be sweet, but I think the best way for EBR to grow would be to let Erik basically invent some crazy new style of bike that pushes into a new market segment. e.g. a hybrid motorcycle that can store energy a la Porsche KERS or something else that really captures the imagination. Erik's all about having great engineering ideas and making them work.

Almond Joy or Butterfinger. Anything else is a health supplement.

Also a motorcycle that screams, "Death to Hollywood"

How about an adv. bike based on something like the Hastur with a low seat height, light weight, and a 19" or 21" front tire. Something made for smaller riders who still appreciate a well designed twin adv bike. I would love to have something like this for my wife.

I still like the XB9S as an entry level bike. More suspension and breaks then you could ever exceed on the street, great balanced power, and very low maintenance.

Replace the engine with something modern to get costs down and long term durability up. But keep the torque.

It kicked the SV-650's ass then, and every new entry level bike I see still pales in comparison to it in terms of bang for the buck.

Why would you compare the XB9S with an SV650 (SV1000?)?

This was not really a question... PLEASE, try to be realistic, and fair... 2003 XB9S base price $9,999, 2010 XB9SX $8,999... 2016 FZ-09 $8,190, 2016 GSX-S 750 $7,999,2016 Z800 $8,390, 2015 Street Triple/R/RX $9,399/$10,399/$11,199, 2015 Shiver 750 $8,699, 2015 Streetfighter 848 $13,495, 2015 Monster 821 dark $10,995 etc.?

Competitive and "RELIABLE" choices from the new EBR will be nice...
Minus all of the ________________?!?!

I bought a new off the showroom floor XB9SX in 2005, I don't recall exactly, but I think the price was in the low 7's. It for sure wasn't $10k.

Many were purchased for much less after the closure of Buell, again, not relevant to the claim, opinion, or statement that you previously typed...
I do not consider the before mentioned motorcycles as entry level machines, but in a fair comparison, this is where the XB9S/X should fall, not with the SV650, Versys 650, or the like...again, why would it?

By the way, I would feel very confident riding an SV650, or even a V-Strom 650 all day with an XB9S/X on the street, canyon roads... both are solid, proven machines that most riders, of any skill, could appreciate.

Took my XB9S to the tracks and was surrounded by the 'less expensive' SV 650's..... you would know them when you got to the track, many had their frames painted white so the cracks in the frame would show before they took a side trip. A race acquaintance who set up the suspension on my XBRR took just such a side trip at VIR.... on the front straight. The frame snapped near the steering head. He was banged up but walked away ok.

A number of owners said they should have paid the extra bucks for the XB9S AC and saved the $ and reworks of the SV650 WC engined bikes (in class).

It is a valid comparison and the two stock bikes were a world apart out the dealer door. The XB9S is fabulous & still is the best of them all that Erik made, period.

Confusing? Nope.
Comparison of class mates.... valid.
Out the door of the dealer the Buell was ready for the track and the SV650 was not.... handling was a world apart (the XB9S was superior), period.

There, you should not be confused anymore.

Class mates where, the track? Which was not the claim, nor mentioned at all, prior too?

The XB9S is better than the SV650... of course it is, where/when did I claim it was not?

I think maybe you should go back and read what motorcycles I think the XB9 should be compared with...then read yours (SV650?... I helped you on that one)... so, who is really not seeing what the XB9 really is?

Congratulations on your opinion though, the best motorcycle ever made by Erik Buell (your claim) has defeated a motorcycle that was not built for, nor intended for the track...nice job...period.

I actually was never confused at all, but thank you for repeating yourself!

Thoughts?

http://www.inazumacafe.com/2015/07/buell-reboot-co ncept.html

Didn't seem all that different than the SX to me, other than a few small touches?
Haven't ridden a SX yet but sitting on one I found it very comfortable riding position.
